To wonder what it is about “no overnight stays till 17 May” that is so hard to understand?

So many colleagues and acquaintances merrily talking today about plans to go and stay with relatives for the bank holiday. Nobody has any shame. We’re waiting till the 17th. Does nobody care any more?

Back to the thread, if you know you have followed the rules, at Christmas, Easter and so on... you know you have done your bit. You can sleep easily at night. I did follow the rules actually, so I know the people who died of covid in my street (and my town) are not my doing.

No need to get so angry NOW when things are nearly over and people going back to as normal life as they can safely. What's the point?

Shouldn't you be happy we can start breathing again?

FatAnneTheDealer · 29/04/2021 18:06

I mean, the CPS wouldn’t be stupid enough to prosecute, precisely because a jury would be unlikely to convict.

JennyBond · 29/04/2021 18:07

@Teateaandmoretea

I believe it’s worth holding on a bit longer so we stand a better chance of not having to reintroduced restrictions later.

Fab idea lockdown to avoid a lockdown that might never happen either way. Have people lost their minds?

Nope. I’m just hanging on a bit longer until even more have been vaccinated.
Itsabeautifulday81 · 29/04/2021 18:08

I suspect the reason my children and I have emerged from this crisis in good, upbeat and positive spirits is because I have mildly broken rules from the outset.

When the rule was go out once a day for exercise: I went out once very early in the morning for beautiful runs and again in the afternoon for a walk either my children

When the rule was not to travel, my children and I regularly travelled by car fifty miles to see my sister (we are both single parents so us getting together wasn’t rule)

Every day on my afternoon walk with the children I unnecessarily popped in to the Waitrose in garage where there was a costa coffee serve yourself coffee. Bliss.

No regrets. Nada. Zilch.

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 29/04/2021 18:09

They specifically tell you at the vaccination appointment that you can still transmit coronavirus after vaccination so you must continue to follow the rules

Nobody told me this when I was vaccinated. In fact, I wasn’t told anything, just jabbed and sent on my way with a leaflet. Which I didn’t read

JennyBond · 29/04/2021 18:09

You don't need the government to tell you when you can stay out overnight! It's not like we're in an emergency situation presently

You’re right, we’re not. Because we went into lockdown, are getting through the vaccines and are coming out of restrictions gradually.

Or do you think case numbers came down by magic?

Itsabeautifulday81 · 29/04/2021 18:09

Oh and a few more now I come to think of it!!

Dowser19 · 29/04/2021 18:10

@5zeds

Everyone I know is following the rules. The only rule breakers I know are described on threads like this on MN.Confused
I don’t know anyone following the rules, everyone I know has just been doing their own thing.

For months / most of the time.

joystir59 · 29/04/2021 18:11

Me too, I've broken the rules throughout in small ways and my mental health is very good.

Magic, vaccines or maybe just nature behaving normally!

Half-heartedly locking down prolongs the agony IMHO.

Exactly. We’ve done exactly the same and everyone’s mental health has survived intact. No one has been ill. Not as much as a sniffle.

For goodness sake, I am not expecting actual prosecutions in relation to overnight stays. I am talking about challenging your nonsense about “oh well I would not be convicted by a jury of my peers” as if that magically makes the law disappear.

Can honestly say I don't give a flying fuck.
Absolutely this
Maddy456 · 29/04/2021 18:15

Have you considered joining the SAGE group of top uk scientists given you know better. Absolutely hilarious, that will give me a good laugh tonight thanks for that.

apooagnuandyou · 29/04/2021 18:16

If following the rules makes you terribly angry and bitter, it wasn't worth it...

The anger and resentment from some people (not talking about the OP specifically, more thinking of other threads) is actually scary.

Common sense and not being a dick was enough. Being an island of all things, we could easily have had to put up with a strict lockdown.

Again, why not being grateful we avoided it and the rates are so low now?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 29/04/2021 18:16

@btwwhichonespink

I don't understand people who follow arbitrary rules for no reason. You are a grown up. You don't need the government to tell you when you can stay out overnight! It's not like we're in an emergency situation presently.
I'm getting a bit fed up with all the sneering at people who are following the rules, and the comments of "I can't believe anyone is still following the rules". Some of us are, probably for various reasons, we're not stupid, or not grown up enough, or lacking in common sense, or incapable of risk assessment. We have our reasons, in the same way those who aren't following the rules have for not following them. I am not judging non rule followers or calling them names, so I'd appreciate people not being all sneery about rule followers, as if you think they are inferior.
tonystarksrighthand · 29/04/2021 18:17

Zero fucks given here.

Livpool · 29/04/2021 18:17

I couldn't care less

Dowser19 · 29/04/2021 18:18

I’ve just driven past my local pub.
They must’ve spent a fortune on a see through marquee at the front of the building.
There were a good few inside , as it’s quite a sunny spot.
All the see through walls were zippered shut.
Well it’s what you can expect when there’s a cold wind blowing 😂

It did have a high ceiling though 👍

We were tempted to join them..but it’s time for dinner .
Maybe tomorrow 🙏

tonystarksrighthand · 29/04/2021 18:18

@HaveringWavering it's guidelines not the law HTH

StormcloakNord · 29/04/2021 18:19

Zero care in the world. I say this also staying away tonight for the bank holiday weekend 👍🏻

I seem to remember that people just doing their own thing, you know living life normally not robbing banks were scathingly called covidiots.

Yep, just for living their lives!

I feel exactly the same way. It is only this week that I have been out since I don't know when, last Sunday and Tuesday. I will go out again tomorrow and maybe over the weekend.

Things are looking up because of our excellent vaccination programme. We can't be complacent, for example going abroad at the moment isn't wise as well as all the inconvenience of quarantining, etc (which won't last forever), but we can breathe more easily at last.

I'm particularly glad for parents with young children and those of us who have chronic health problems.

(I wish the situation in India would improve, that is frightening, but we can do nothing about that except donate to a charity which is helping people.)

Have a lovely time

We are just at our caravan again.
Nice to see the neighbours...different ones this time.

Constance11 · 29/04/2021 18:22

I wish we hadn't followed the rules, we hardly saw a much loved relative for most of last year and they were diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer mid feb and were dead a month later. OP people have realised they have got to start living their lives, and not sure what you think will happen on 17th May to make things suddenly safer than they are now? Blind following of rules is really pathetic actually as we found out to our cost.

So many people are vaccinated now so just look to yourself and let others get on with their lives as they see fit.
