As an adult what scares you?

I’m 30, not scared of anything (apart from something happening to my child or myself leaving my child motherless) but any pointy fingered creature, the plague doctor bird mask really terrifies me, I watched a movie once called the poughkeepsie tapes & was so scared I actually threw up! (I was led to believe it was real footage at the time) as an adult what things scare you?

I'm scared of fucking up my children by being too strict, or not strict enough, or too shouty.
I'm scared of bananas. When you peel them they're simultaneously stringy and furry and slimy and smelly - just wrong.
I'm scared of climate change too.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/05/2021 11:18

The faces of clowns. I’ve always found them horribly sinister.

(Not helped by an old film called Sleuth)

Now that we’re getting on a bit (well, more than a bit) the thought of dh dying and leaving me.

Seeing Gdcs climbing trees like monkeys - terrified of them falling. Just as well my dd and SiL are a lot more chilled.

Nonbio46 · 01/05/2021 11:28

The book Naomi’s Room by Johnathan Aycliffe, it’s terrifying. Also driving. 😊

TSSDNCOP · 01/05/2021 11:34

Spiders
The Dartford Crossing
My current vulnerability, but I'm working on that

EarthAngel48 · 01/05/2021 13:13

Honeybuns007 are you physically sick when you see slugs too? I also despise snails 🤮

altlife · 01/05/2021 13:15

Spiders

My inlaws influence over my husband (slowly improving)

Finding a dead body

Phyllis321 · 01/05/2021 13:21

Large, underwater objects like shipwrecks.

I don’t really find horror films scary anymore; I don’t know why. Mainly they just piss me off. Some really sick minds in Hollywood.

FuckingFabulous · 01/05/2021 17:10

Dying
Terminal illness
My children being terminally ill
My children being abducted
My children being bullied
Being cheated on

Keepyourdistance000 · 01/05/2021 17:14

Heights - can't do steep exposed escalators and glass lifts.
Trains, especially freight trains.
Railway tracks.
The gap between the platform and the train
Thunder and lightning at night, especially approaching or distant.
Big spiders
Nuclear war

Keepyourdistance000 · 01/05/2021 17:15

Going over high bridges especially if there's water underneath - the QE2 bridge at Dartford is one of my worst nightmares.

Keepyourdistance000 · 01/05/2021 17:18

@Cassie71

Level crossings, I won't drive or walk across them Confused
Yes to this.
KizzyMoo · 01/05/2021 18:05

Spiders, heights, the dark.

DarlingWithoutYou · 01/05/2021 18:07

Oh I can't cope with the dartford crossing or the tunnel coming back. Terrifies me.

Livpool · 01/05/2021 18:16

Anything with more than 4 legs -especially spiders and millipedes 😱
The story of Spring Heeled Jack
Clowns
Sinkholes
Deep ocean and the animals that live there

MabelMoo23 · 01/05/2021 19:14

Lifts - specifically one dropping free fall lots of floors and the feeling you get. The scene in the glass lift in skyscraper where the Rock cuts the cable, Jesus Christ I nearly wet myself.

My children dying

Something happening to them where they are truly terrified

My DH dying

Driving on the motorway and car in front brakes suddenly. The thought of a high speed crash on the motorway really really frightens me

Wasps, frogs

Torture porn - there is some sick shit out there, and I just can’t watch it. Nor do I want to, everyone raved about the fall, am so sick of violence against women dressed up for entertainment that I refused to watch it.

Really mundane violence frightens me as well. The kind of violence you can imagine happening in gangland London. Gangs of London was another one I refused to watch.

berryhead2013 · 01/05/2021 20:43

Slender man had me freaked big time

Chillychangchoo · 01/05/2021 20:55

Apart from the immediate obvious like leaving my kids motherless or something happening to them I would say rollercoasters. Used to love them when I was a kid but the thought of them makes me feel ill with terror now.
