To be shocked at what’s just happened on the school run

Molyka88 · 28/04/2021 15:34

So today after picking DCs up from school/nursery a car that was parked up close behind my car put their car into accelerate instead of reverse and ended up pinning me between my rear bumper and their front bumper whilst I was putting bags etc in the boot.

Mum in question did not realise one of my legs was taking the brunt of this until I was shouting to tell her to reverse.
She did apologise at the time, but didn’t get out of the car to ask if I was ok or anything like that!

I’ve got home now and my knee already is swollen and starting to bruise.. I’m also thinking this could have been a much worse accident if this was DS stood in between the car.

Fortunately a parent came over to check if I was ok and he did catch the incident on his dash cam.
So would you put this down as an unfortunate accident or do anything about it? I’m not even sure who or if I would report it too.

@Molyka88 how did you get on at A&E?

KarmaNoMore · 28/04/2021 21:09

Get to A&E tonight. If you leave it and it goes bad, you may not be covered by insurance.

Personally all my forgiving nature would be put to the side, and she would dully be reported ASAP, if I she had hit me and she didn’t go out of her car to check I was ok.

Dancingpinkgini · 28/04/2021 21:10

Have you been to get checked out yet? I hope you are ok!

MeridianB · 28/04/2021 21:10

@Molyka88 this is awful. There is no way she wouldn’t realise she’d made contact with you unless she was plastered. It getting out is just shocking. Totally agree with all saying report her and I hope you get a clean bill of health from A&E 💐

Flipflopblowout · 28/04/2021 21:10

You need to see a doctor to find out how badly injured your knee is, their insurance could end up paying for private health care. Don't forget that an injury now might just affect you into old age and if it does then their insurance should pay out.

partyatthepalace · 28/04/2021 21:13

Report it to the police, one jump forward and you could have lost your leg - or if you had been a child, lost your life. That is serious dangerous driving and from your description she was paying no attention. Get your knee checked out by GP or physio and take a photo.

Ginuwine · 28/04/2021 21:31

I have seen some stuff on here but there are a couple of comments that have left me shocked.

She was mortified

Who cares?! Its attitudes like "imagine how the driver feel" which ruin this country.

The driver hit someone, tried to make excuses and then drove off.

They should have stayed to give details: they didn't.

As a result the OP now has to rely on dash cam footage which may not have been there had that other driver not volunteered it.

It's a fucking DISGRACE that the OP's right to claim should even be questioned. Car insurance is not just for metal and plastic, it's for all driving situations! The driver was at fault. That's what her insurance is for.

We're so obsessed with protecting no claims in this country that someone hits a person, and can drive off without criticism.

she may not have know she hit you

Fucks sake - really?

She knew. And if she didn't, the arm waving and subsequent indication of the OP told her she had.

I don't want anyone who doesn't realise they're pinning someone back onto their car, driving on the road.

I hope the woman in question gets a conversation with the police at the minimum, and a claim processed on her insurance.

Horrible incident and feel for you @Molyka88

Weirdlynormal · 28/04/2021 21:42

I understand the Anne Sacoolas was 'mortified' that she hit that poor lad on his motorbike. It was an accident. Yes and she fucking killed him.

What do we need for people to realise that bad driving costs lives.

Apandemicyousay · 28/04/2021 21:51

not read the whole thread but in case not already stated, it's also worth reporting because if your knee needs sorting at all long term (MRI, physio or ortho opinion) it can be done privately via insurance companies. So the quicker you get it medically logged , with an early trip to A&E/minor injuries the clearer the direct link for you long term, and call insurance company tomorrow. A dodgy knee is the sort of stuff that the NHS is terrible for during pandemic so having option to pursue private cover might be particularly important.

Lougle · 28/04/2021 22:39

I hope you got seen tonight.

ozymandiusking · 28/04/2021 23:23

I wonder if she didn't realise that she was making contact with your leg, and thought you wanted her to move futher away.
Either way you should have your leg looked at. Probably A +E
You might need to claim on her insurence.

Nith · 29/04/2021 00:08

@Amanduh

Thing is it’s not a hit and run if it was a ‘omg i’m so sorry! Are you ok? I’m so sorry! Are you ok?’ If she apologised several times. And you nodded and said.. what? Did you say oh I’m ok, don’t worry about it etc then got back in your car? It’s not like she did it and drove off without speaking to you. I’m not excusing her, but maybe she doesn’t realise she has done damage - I can’t see anywhere near my bumper to know how tight I would be squeezing someones leg? What did you say after she apologised?
It's a hit and run because she's failed to give her details to OP, and because she hasn't (so far as know) reported an accident involving injury to the police.
Nith · 29/04/2021 00:11

Any accident needs reporting to her insurance. If you have any issues with your knee then you'll be entitled to compensation from her insurance. She was very wrong to just drive off and not give you her details.

OP is already entitled to compensation, simply by virtue of the fact that she's been injured and suffered from shock.

EmeraldShamrock · 29/04/2021 00:13

Omg you must have got an awful fright, I hope you're okay, send her insurance company any expenses.
I'm surprised accidents don't happen weekly some school run drivers are very dangerous
.

deepbreath · 29/04/2021 00:21

I hope that you're doing OK, OP?

Someone drove into the back of my car years ago after they slammed their foot on the accelerator to stop their van stalling. They did get out, but stood away from me and were in a rush "to get to work". In hindsight, I think they had been drinking, or were still half cut from the night before.

cerealgamechanger · 29/04/2021 00:30

You're being incredibly polite about it OP. She's hurt you?! If that was a small child, their pelvis/abdomen/ribs or whatever would've been crushed. Get a backbone and report to the bloody police.

Bahhhhhumbug · 29/04/2021 01:10

You could've had limb or life threatening injuries OP. Please don't leave it till tomo, call the police tonight and set the ball rolling. They will get it logged and speak to your witness tomo when he's tracked down. I live on a shat bend on a main road and this is my worst nightmare. I won't get in my car (driver's side is roadside) until there's nothing coming as we've had one car written off there and lost several wing mirrors over the years and l dont want to end up being in the middle next time Please please report this OP, it will be taken seriously ( as it should be). Hope you are ok as can be expected and no permanent damage.

Bahhhhhumbug · 29/04/2021 01:12

Sharp not shat lol

Laaaayla · 29/04/2021 01:21

These stories give me the fear. The driving and parking around schools is just crazy. I don’t understand what comes over people on the school run.

HidingFromTheChildren · 29/04/2021 01:22

I'd definitely report. She may have been drunk or something on the school run.

salsmum · 29/04/2021 01:36

It could be that she was in shock and panicked.... or maybe she was uninsured.

MouseholeCat · 29/04/2021 01:42

I'm shocked by this accident and the fact she just drove away, but I literally cannot believe that there are people on this thread saying OP shouldn't report because the woman said sorry.

This woman hit a person directly in front of them with their car, initially did not notice, did not get out to see the damage, injury or exchange details, and then DROVE AWAY.

Contact the police, ensure she is caught, and definitely get a lawyer. That knee injury could be bad and you'll probably want physio to ensure you heal properly.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/04/2021 01:45

FFS! This is a very serious crime. This is a hit and run with bodily injury. You need to report this to the police immediately, and you also need to see a doctor as soon as humanly possible. You may need to pursue litigation against this driver.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/04/2021 01:47

To add, I'm so sorry this happened to you. What a horrible shock.

Mamanyt · 29/04/2021 03:12

If she was that careless, then she is probably that careless at other times. Report it. God forbid, the next time, it might be a child caught.
