My theory is that voters don't care.

Johnson 'gets things done', does he? Well he's just failed to get a fishing deal with Norway done.

Covid vaccines have little to do with him - scientific endeavor and the NHS roll out are the primary cause of success there.

Bearnecessity · 30/04/2021 14:05

People seem determined to remove the agency of the individual from them by saying they are blind or accepting of less than 100% competency....

Labour are so divisive....you are rich...you are Tory....you are this ....you are that..... most tories accept no-one is perfect and they haven't bought the notion that Labour are better, more perfect or worthy or honourable.

Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Ed Milliband, Jeremy Corbin and Labour wonder why people vote Tory..

Peregrina · 30/04/2021 14:05

Sunak and Cameron both married money though, didn't they?

Bearnecessity · 30/04/2021 14:12

So what?

They married for love....you cannot possibly know any different....their spouses had money.....so what?

Being rich is not a crime neither is marrying someone with money....

mustlovegin · 30/04/2021 14:13

Boris strikes me as someone who wants to be properly rich

If he was so charming and hypnotic, or such as sleaze as posters are saying here, he would already be 'properly rich', and he isn't.

mustlovegin · 30/04/2021 14:15

Non-rich people (or politicians) do not monopolise honourability

Notonthestairs · 30/04/2021 14:33

Who calls Johnson charming and hypnotic? Confused

LemonRoses · 30/04/2021 14:49

I rather think he is. Well, I would call a net worth of over 3.5 million properly rich.

BBC article from 2019
www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-47854338.amp
Boris Johnson breached Commons rules by not declaring a financial interest in time, a committee of MPs has found.
The reprimand follows a similar finding in December, when Mr Johnson was ordered to apologise over the late declaration of £52,000 in book royalty payments.
In its latest report, the committee said the failure to declare the property interest in time revealed a "pattern of behaviour" regarding respect for rules on declarations

Darker · 30/04/2021 14:57

3.5 million is nothing to some of the people in his circle.

Peregrina · 30/04/2021 15:12

Boris Johnson breached Commons rules by not declaring a financial interest in time, a committee of MPs has found.

What's the sanction though? Nothing, so he gets away with it.

Peregrina · 30/04/2021 15:14

Merely saying that they married well, whereas Johnson appears to have missed a trick there. Yes as far as we know both Sunak and Cameron are faithful husbands, which could not be said of Johnson.

Bearnecessity · 30/04/2021 15:20

So .....only faithful husbands can be PM?

Peregrina · 30/04/2021 15:34

Clearly not, but being faithful to your spouse does show that at least you have some integrity. That you believe your marriage vows are worth keeping.

mustlovegin · 30/04/2021 15:43

are faithful husbands

No one has any idea if people are faithful or not. Is this serious?

Peregrina · 30/04/2021 15:45

I don't think there is much doubt in Boris Johnson's case, that he doesn't know the meaning of the word.

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2021 15:47

Johnson's affairs weren't exactly a secret

Darker · 30/04/2021 15:47

Boris has a lot of people to support, is attracted to people with expensive tastes, and is not a very good negotiator.

Bearnecessity · 30/04/2021 15:53

It is this good and bad divisiveness again....

Voting Tory is about far more than Boris Johnson, he at the moment happens to be the leader, he is not perfect he does not claim to be.....and some marriages are successful and some are not.

Do you also say that all unsuccessful marriages exist because of a man who lacks perceived integrity?

He is human and fallible, maybe people like him because he is not holier than 'tho...

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2021 15:56

No this is about Johnson's constant lying

Bearnecessity · 30/04/2021 16:01

You mean the Labour and media facilitated idea that Johnson is constantly lying....surely...

Notonthestairs · 30/04/2021 16:05

I do not want the Prime Minster to lie to Parliament. Any Prime Minister. That should be a minimum standard of behaviour.

(Johnson can sleep where he wants but I'd rather he didn't shuffle his partner any money from the tax payer).

Peregrina · 30/04/2021 16:06

No this is about Johnson's constant lying

Exactly. The man sacked twice for lying, the serial adulterer who can't or won't say how many children he has.

Not like John Major who looked to be squeaky clean but managed to pull the wool over our eyes with his affair with Edwina Curry, and was condemned for being a hypocrite after he had led a 'Back to Basics' campaign. But as far as we know he wasn't giving contracts to his unqualified cronies, and to his credit he is one of the architects of the Good Friday Agreement.

On the subject Johnson's lies: in respect of NI - there would be no border in the Irish Sea, he declared. Arlene Foster will now have cause to rue throwing her support behind him.

Peregrina · 30/04/2021 16:09

You mean the Labour and media facilitated idea that Johnson is constantly lying....surely...

I don't know how you work out that the Mail, Express and Telegraph are Labour supporting papers. Now if they are saying that Johnson is lying you have to wonder why.

Just over half a century ago, John Profumo lied to Parliament, resigned and spent the rest of his life doing charity work. Profumo wasn't even the PM.

mustlovegin · 30/04/2021 16:11

Why should we take what the media say at face value? (any media)
