My theory is that voters don't care.

In an interview with Sky News in 2013 he said: “I’d vote to stay in the single market. I’m in favour of the single market.”

We voted in 2016 - not 2013.

jgw1 · 29/04/2021 11:36

@Peregrina

They just might begin to care. Most of us can't get our heads around £37 billion for the failed track and trace. But we most certainly can get our heads around £840 for a roll of wallpaper? What sort of mug pays that money? Is it gold plated? (Apparently yes.)

Which mug pays, well preferably the taxpayer, but if not, Tory donors on the QT, but then they will expect something in return.

I wonder if those Tory donors actually pay a similar proportion of their income in tax as I do?

disagree.

the more he gets away with, the more he gets away with..... I do not think this is the straw which will break the camel's back.

MrsExpo · 29/04/2021 11:37

Couldn't care less who paid for his wallpaper tbh .... he's a politician. It got with the territory to say whatever needs to be said to promote his own interests and position.

GiveMeNovocain · 29/04/2021 11:38

He's always been a liar. I cared enough not to vote for him but as my party didn't win then I assume The vast majority of his supporters are happy with getting what they chose. To be honest I don't think any party is great and it's more a choice of least shit going to the welsh polls in May. Drakeford has lost my support so it'll probably be Lib Dem's who get my losing constituency vote this time! Possibly Conservative on regional list as at least they respond to letters.

I quite liked Tony and Cherie Blair at the time.

I agree, it's definitely a double-edged sword that he's balancing on.

I hope his peak is in our past, and he's now on a downward ride to disgraced ex-PM, but frankly looking at this thread, who honestly can tell?

DynamoKev · 29/04/2021 11:42

@Mytiredeyeshaveseenenough

The constant nit picking and calling for enquiries over fairly trivial things makes Labour look really weak. If the best you can do as the opposition is batter on about who paid for the redecoration of a flat during current times, you really aren't making yourselves look like the party to win an election.
You can't have it both ways. Regardless of the who pays (although that's important) no sane person could argue that the time and £200K spent on creating a replica knocking shop in Downing Street shows just how much in contempt Boris actually holds ordinary people. Claims that it's all OK "because he's getting things done" should be met with the question of how much more the fucker could be getting done if he wasn't busy doing dodgy deals to get his flat done up and then lying about it and dodging questions aferwards.

Well it does in his case - but it shouldn't and the fact that so many readily accept this sleaze and corruption is disgusting.

I bet Johnson's great hero Churchill didn't spend time fucking about with expensive wallpaper.

Peregrina · 29/04/2021 11:48

Who cares what Cameron said now? He was going to stay on to implement the result: he scarpered within 12 hours of the result being declared.

Darker · 29/04/2021 11:49

Boris will be unseated when the king-makers decide its time. All this is just softening things up so that when the coup comes he doesn't stand a chance.

"I bet Johnson's great hero Churchill didn't spend time fucking about with expensive wallpaper"

that is because it was Carrie not Johnson (who no doubt does not give too much of a monkeys about interior decor) who is interested in expensive wallpaper.

Carrie is interested in free organic meals being delivered regularly
Carrie is interested in plush interiors
Carrie benefits from the "you are being sexist" retorts if anyone critcises her.

Don't say any spouse of the prime minister would act the same - I do not believe "any spouse" would. Carrie is clever, she will be off (to someone more wealthy) very shortly after BJ's actual fall from grace but at the moment she gets what she wants out of BJ's teflon style of leadership.

BJ no doubt still gets sex from Carrie (and probably sex from others as well but they are both happy with that arrangement no doubt).

Check out the Good Law Project Twitter feed today on Boris 'getting it done' over PPE

The Government knew the VIP Lane was hindering the efficient procuring of PPE.

This NHS report entitled “‘PPE PMO Update 20 April 2020” warns: “VIP escalation is obstructing progress of more viable opportunities"

The thing that has annoyed me is the fact that he only had to pay out the money himself because he was found out ( I think I've got this correct ) and any other time they may well have got away with it : who knows? The dodgy deals need to be looked into.
If he had any thought at all he would told his girlfriend' we have been allocated 30 k this year and that's it ' and given her the John Lewis brochure or any other furniture outlet brochure to pick out few things. . Even ball and Farrow paint ( or whatever it's called ) is sold in Homebase and a few tins of that would only come to a few hundred pounds ! How big are these rooms? M and S do nice furniture..
Tony and Cherie Blair spent 300 k during the years they were living there I heard today. I remember the rumblings at the time , but it was agreed it was within the budgets. It's only brought up as a ' gotcha ' thing anyway.
As the expenses scandals showed people, a lot of politicians from all parties are happy to take what they think is rightfully theres for duck ponds or moat draining. All wrong, but ' allowed'. Makes me sick personally.
I bet Jeremy Corbyn would have been more like Theresa May or Rishi Sunak so you can't tar them all either. Some have a big moral compass and a bit of emotional intelligence that Johnson clearly hasn't.
Labour should move on from this now. People seem to like the tories and all of this will fade away. I won't forget , but many will and the whole tit for tat thing will also carry on too.
The vaccine roll out is their big game changer and getting the economy moving again. The Tory ones being interviewed today have been given the brief of how to put the lid on the arguments over the money spent.
Labour have bigger problems such as trying to get ahead in the polls , something they are failing on despite it all.

So the left wingers feel impotent and the only thing left is to spew out hatred on here on a regular basis.
Complaining that our PM is a proven liar = spewing out hatred. Really?
Don't you care that he's a racist/charlatan/adulterer/liar? Wouldn't you like someone with more integrity as your leader?

CwidlyDoo · 29/04/2021 12:11

@Clydesider

I think he's an appalling, unprincipled, selfish man and I really can't understand why he's so popular. He's our very own Trump and I'm ashamed of this nation at times for putting him in 10 Downing Street.
Maybe if the opposition had been much better, the nation would have voted in someone else.

Maybe if Labour had realised much sooner that Jeremy Corbyn was unelectable.

Maybe if the Liberal Democrats had a leader that didn't spend all her time telling people that she would ignore a democratic vote if in power.

Maybe when politics stops being tribal, when one side stops using the terms 'evil', 'nasty' etc to describe the other side, when supporters stop describing others that don't agree with them as uneducated, stupid, gammon, thick, racist, xenophobic, etc and instead engage in polite respectful debate, agreeing to disagree when common ground can't be found, maybe we would get somewhere.

DrCoconut · 29/04/2021 12:15

Thing is if he's lying about one thing how does anyone know he's not lying about other things? So the flat refurb, his affairs etc are not important on a world scale but other things are. I realise probably everyone lies to some extent at some point but why do we (on a national rather than personal level) insist on electing someone who makes a blatant and shameless habit of it?

Darker · 29/04/2021 12:18

Please don't blame Labour for Tory corruption.

The only way to deal with corruption is to deal with it as arises and build in safeguards for the future.

Unless you are planning to wave through corruption in future governments ..

Labour policies would save the average family £6,700.

OUR VERDICT

Mittens030869 · 29/04/2021 12:34

I don’t blame Labour for Tory corruption. But a Labour Leader other than Corbyn might have successfully persuaded enough people to vote Remain to achieve a different result in the referendum. And they might have been able to defeat Johnson and the Tories at the ballot box. Or at the very least they could have restricted them to a much smaller majority.

So Labour aren’t to blame for the actions of the Tory Party, but they could have done a better job as the official Opposition.

Darker · 29/04/2021 12:36

Have you forgotten that Cameron campaigned to Remain?

Mittens030869 · 29/04/2021 12:40

Of course I haven’t. But he didn’t do a very good job, did he? Admittedly, it wasn’t entirely his fault when the majority of his own party weren’t behind him.

Hilarious that you think Rishi has a moral compass and intelligence.

Tell that to the 3 million self employed he excluded from Covid support.

We don't know he's lying, it's all surmise.

And why is it significant if he were lying?

A politician who doesn't lie?

No such thing!
