My theory is that voters don't care.

how Trump got elected

I don't know why some keep on comparing BJ to Trump

DuncinToffee · 29/04/2021 09:43

He doesn't seem to dither, bow down to pressure or go round in circles.

He just hides in fridges

Onetoomuch · 29/04/2021 09:46

@RozHuntleysStump you can't think of anyone better ? Really ? And politicians are twats, all of them ?
Well god help the country then if that's the best we can do Confused a cabinet full of posh wideboys. Look at Robert Jenrick taking bungs from his wealthy property developer friends, also his mate Jake Berry allocating millions to each others constituencies. Funny how many of them blocked legislation to ensure private landlords made their properties fit for habitation because funnily enough most of them are in fact landlords. But no, nothing to see, Labour would be worse. How long will people keep making this excuse ?

Peregrina · 29/04/2021 09:47

He acted upon what the majority voted

But it's strange how some vocal Brexit voters are not happy with the results.

These are mythical creatures. Where are they?

Peregrina · 29/04/2021 09:50

The eel fisherman was the first to complain. Shell fishermen generally.

Seriously? Ok, well, here's a link to get you started.

Many people are irritated when they see someone who's ballsy and who sticks to his guns rather than being subservient to the mobs who believe they have the right to dictate what we are allowed to do and think.

The populism, the self interest above all else, the resorting to simple slogans in place of actual policy, the lying, the blatant corruption...
BettysCardigan · 29/04/2021 09:58

Sticks to his guns haha!

He hid in a fridge.
He took a journalist's phone when asked about a child lying on a hospital floor.
He took weeks to decide if he was leave or remain.
In the space of 24 hours he swore schools were safe and then closed them.

That's just off the top of my head. Look, anyone can vote for who they like, but if you're going to be so wilfully uneducated about the reality, you should stay at home next election, for the sake of the rest of us.

iminthegarden · 29/04/2021 10:01

Just read this ...The President of the United States has the White House and Emmanuel Macron has a palace while our Prime Minister has a modest flat.

Tony Blair spent in excess of £285,000 (around £400,000 today), yet not a word was uttered.

Raising this to an election-defining issue reflects the lack of real policies and real opposition by other parties. Hence their reversion to mud-slinging.

DuncinToffee · 29/04/2021 10:01

No border checks between the UK and Ireland, remember that one?

BettysCardigan · 29/04/2021 10:02

Its not about the flat.

RightlyPointingOut · 29/04/2021 10:03

@Clydesider

I think he's an appalling, unprincipled, selfish man and I really can't understand why he's so popular. He's our very own Trump and I'm ashamed of this nation at times for putting him in 10 Downing Street.
But the alternative at the last GE was Corbyn - now that would have been truly shameful.
DuncinToffee · 29/04/2021 10:06

Putin has a palace, Angela Merkel lives in a private flat, so what?

Darker · 29/04/2021 10:10

BJ has Chequers as well.

BraveBraveMouse · 29/04/2021 10:10

Can't stand the slimy misogynistic fucker

mustlovegin · 29/04/2021 10:17

He took weeks to decide if he was leave or remain

What's the problem? He took his time to assess it carefully, like many did

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/04/2021 10:19

He assessed it on the basis of which was best for his popularity. Hence the two articles.

mustlovegin · 29/04/2021 10:22

Well, the journalist appears to have a personal vendetta against BJ, and the New Statesman is 'progressive' and 'liberal'. Why should we take any notice of what they say or their very biased parallelisms?

Sure he was assessing it carefully Grin

At the time, he was the Foreign Secretary. Are you trying to say that he literally had no view on our European membership before his 'decision' was made public?

What was going on then was back room dealing. What would Cameron offer him to come out Remain, how would it impact his personal brand if he came out Leave, etc?

The naivety of many many people on here is absolutely astonishing, and not a little terrifying.

C8H10N4O2 · 29/04/2021 10:22

Just read this ...The President of the United States has the White House and Emmanuel Macron has a palace while our Prime Minister has a modest flat

Our PM is not the head of state. The head of state here has palaces (plural).

The flat in question is larger than the average house and the PM also has country houses at their disposal.

Tony Blair spent in excess of £285,000 (around £400,000 today), yet not a word was uttered

I'd be interested in a source for that number frankly because it doesn't match what I recall. However there was quite a bit of structural work needed because as the first PM in memory to enter No 10 with a family the PM residence swapped too be the larger No 11 flat which needed conversion of a listed building rather than just redecorating.

Conversion costs to accommodate a family rather than a couple should not be borne by the incumbent (be it the Blairs or the Camereons). Personal preferences in decor beyond the 30k per year allowance should be borne by the incumbent.

ha ha ha ha ha.

Don't you remember the years of agony over the withdrawal agreement? You should look up the evidence on all the different stances he took on Brexit to convince people to vote for him.

Promising single market, no border etc etc etc. Apparently he was telling EU ambassadors that he was all for free movement while saying the opposite to anyone who wanted to end free movement.

He's a fucking charlatan.

BettysCardigan · 29/04/2021 10:23

I dunno @mustlovegin maybe reading it might expand your mind a bit? That's the whole point of reading really...
