@boomwhacker

I just found this on their FB page:

"Compared to women, men tend to work longer hours, are more willing to sacrifice job security for career advancement, do more dangerous jobs, and take fewer career breaks. Women often want to devote themselves more to family life. The “Gender Pay Gap” is by and large a reflection of the natural differences between men and women, and no government action is required to address it.

We do not support gender quotas in business, education or politics and would seek to repeal legislation that already discriminates in this way.

So-called “equal pay” claims, where women claim to have been underpaid for doing different work than men are unjust. Councils should not have to dissipate their limited resources following these unjust claims. Similarly, businesses should be secure from such opportunistic attacks"

Great hey!

surely this is fake or taking the piss? cant be genuine?!
Crabbypaddy · 26/04/2021 21:26

I’m central Scotland, can’t wait to receive mines through the door to use it if we run out toilet roll 💩

Butwasitherdriveway · 26/04/2021 21:26

It's genuine.

And each of those posts has a load of absolute wahoos defending it!

With the exception of the free speech and sex education I agree with all of the points.
Unfortunately though, as a PP said, when you dig a little deeper it suddenly becomes very uncomfortable and intolerant.
I agree that they sound like a conservative religious group wanting a return of white, straight, married women stuck at home obedient to their husband.
Very unpleasant.

I’m not sure why you’re so shocked, socially right wing parties do exist. They sound very fringe though, unlikely to make much political inroads.

You agree with

No abortion
Married people to be favoured
"Families" prioritised - ie if you dont have a partner you're worth nothing

Their manifesto is bizarre in that it has the stamp of religion all over it but there is no religion mentioned in it at all (apart from something about Catholic schools being allowed to teach what they want). You see similar screeds in the States but they can't go two sentences without invoking God.

I'm not shocked.

I'm absolutely disgusted that this can be posted through my letterbox.

Ironic that this party wants hate speech legalised....

Having dug a little deeper, this has managed to attract the support of many Catholics.

The principles of speech apply whether you agree with the sentiments or not.

me4real · 26/04/2021 21:31

Yes. Teaching youngsters that abortion is wrong, and that they must get married and stay at home and look after their kids, and to rail against sex ed, is dangerous.

@Butwasitherdriveway That's not what they said though. I wish people wouldn't spin people's arguments. They oppose abortion on demand. They don't like some forms of sex ed, but as long as it's not 'vulgar' I imagine they're ok with some sex ed (I suppose I could google this party, but even Catholics are ok with some.)

womaninatightspot · 26/04/2021 21:31

I got that leaflet and it went off to the recycling bin. I do wonder if they'll get a few votes with the anti trans ideology though as it's very divisive.

I just wish I had a normal person to vote for.

Ideally I want
Women's rights including the right to choose; also decent childcare.
Legalisation of euthanasia
A recognition that trans rights are a tricky balancing act; the desire to be inclusive shouldn't impinge upon women's sex based rights
No second referendum for Scotland
Investment into health and education
People should have a right to protest, hate speech is obviously awful but the rules have become twisted meaning stating biological facts can be construed as hate speech which is outrageous.

Ostryga · 26/04/2021 21:32

WOW. I knew MN had gone a to shit recently, but to see people actually defending this for whatever reason has sealed the deal.

Imagine being on MUMSnet and thinking this is ok because they don’t like the left Confused

I had a look on their FB page.

They don't agree with body parts and sexual intercourse being taught, it's too "vulgar".

What is abortion on demand as opposed to abortion?

OnTheBrink1 · 26/04/2021 21:33

I think I must be the only person (or only person who is willing to speak up) who agrees with almost all of these (not the trans one, except where younger children are concerned)

Well quite.

I am an out and proud lefty, and that's absolutely fine with me. If that separates me from the people who support this, then that's sweet.

Bvop, amazing and incredibly thought provoking, I was reading and emotionally getting on the bandwagon but I think your points are very balanced and I 100% agree with you despite being another that thinks if someone with these views was elected THEN it might be dangerous to the society I'd like to live in but if anything reading that leaflet engages me more in the need to use my vote in a way I think I wise!

Ostryga · 26/04/2021 21:35

@OnTheBrink1

What???

You think women are second class to men, don’t deserve any rights and are basically a womb on legs and need to shut up and put up?

Are you a man per chance?

Butwasitherdriveway · 26/04/2021 21:35

@OnTheBrink1

It's not about being willing to speak up.

It's about the fact that most people recognise the consequences of these views.

If you exclude the trans one, which I appreciate is controversial, this party would result in discrimination against all of these groups

Gay people
Single parents
People who can't have children
people who work
People who believe in euthanasia or abortion
Children who rely on sex ed in schools as can't access this at home
People who aren't married

Is that OK?

Blessed be the fruit loops.

me4real · 26/04/2021 21:36

They don't agree with body parts and sexual intercourse being taught, it's too "vulgar".

I suggest you are spinning what they say again and they didn't say that.

Abortion on demand is when a woman can ask for abortion and get it simply by requesting it. We don't technically have that in the UK but we probably effectively do (I'm pro-choice BTW.)

People who don't believe in abortion on demand think that abortion should be on the grounds of genuine medical need, or if a woman's been raped etc, specific reasons.

Butwasitherdriveway · 26/04/2021 21:36

@Ostryga at a guess she's not left, and therefore is forced to try and present that us lefties are oh so scary that nobody could possibly say they agree with these topics (when it's far more likely that any decent human being doesn't)>

this has been shared far and wide in my circle and thankfully I haven't spoken to one person who agrees with this.

OP posts:
SimonJT · 26/04/2021 21:37

Ah, I do believe I am the vulgar and corrupting thing children need to be protected from 😂 yet I’m married, so do those two things cancel each other out?

With ideas such as those, you have to ask what popular ideas didn’t make it on their flyer. I like how they want to abolish hate speech, yet their website shows they are anti Catholic hate speech...

Whyareblokesonhere · 26/04/2021 21:38

Why are 'women's rights' and 'decent childcare' part of your same sentence, genuinely intrigued? As individual statements I'd agree both are critical....
