Ex gays are very interesting

Not in my experience. Monomaniacal religious nutters most of them.

Captpike · 01/05/2021 17:58

@SimonJT

Ex gays are very interesting, they have usually been groomed by religious groups, often evangelical christians. Until fairly recently the NHS was funding conversion therapy provided by ‘therapists’ who think being gay or SSA (same sex attraction) as they call it is a symptom of being anti-religion or not having a belief in god. Patients are first groomed into the religion, then the standard grooming of leaving their old friends etc behind so they are socially isolated, the final step is often grooming them to change jobs. Before you know it all support networks are removed and these people are trapped.
Thank god its about to be illegal.

@Captpike It'd be nice. I hope it does happen. But they're not even banning things like 'Recovered Memory Therapy' where therapists falsely convince clients that their family and friends sacrifice babies to Satan.

The therapy industry tends to be pretty unregulated in the UK.

Theresa May claimed to want to ban conversion therapy, but she wanted trans to be determined solely by self-identification too, and that was overturned by Boris etc (I agree with them overturning it.)

I don't think there's the same amount of public backing for converion therapy as there is for trans needing more than self-ID, though.

Apparently Boris is going to create a loophole so religious groups can carry on handling it in the same way they do now www.pinknews.co.uk/2021/04/13/boris-johnson-conversion-therapy-ban-churches-evangelical-alliance-letter/

@TheSandman Milo Yiannopoulos currently claiming to be an ex-gay is amusing to me. I keep waiting for the punchline. www.youtube.com/c/MiloYiannopoulos/videos

I doubt it, from what I have heard Boris, Osbourne and Cameron were part of a small Tory group in favour of gay rights when they were at university.
Boris I’m sure I remember speaking out specifically in condemnation of conversion therapy.

Boris in favour of gay rights? You’ve got to be joking.

He calls gay men tank topped bum boys and thinks gay marriage is no different to marrying a dog. Hes against gay people serving in the forces and he supported Mugabe homophobia against the labour party.

I’m sure I did read it somewhere, when he was in that group, bullingdon club at university that he and Cameron and Osbourne weren’t popular because they were in favour of gay marriage.

He’s against gay people serving in the forces and he supported Mugabe homophobia against the labour party
I didn’t know that, I don’t have much interest in politics truthfully I just thought I remembered Boris speaking out against this therapy.
That is dreadful if true though.

Butwasitherdriveway · 01/05/2021 21:46

I can imagine Boris agreeing flying carpets exist if his pals did.

@DiddlyWiddly I wasn't giving an opinion, I linked to the comments he made about letting religious people stiill handle gay in their own way. Most 'anti-gay' therapy is in a religious context. So that means most of it will be able to carry on as it is.

DiddlyWiddly · 02/05/2021 09:16

I commented without reading the link.
I was sure I had heard previously he was in favour of gay rights and that he had spoken against conversion therapy so I was surprised when I read your post.
It’s extremely disappointing.

DiddlyWiddly · 02/05/2021 09:17

Him allowing it I mean is disappointing, not your post

Warsawa31 · 02/05/2021 10:13

I agree with some of the positions to be fair - everyone is entitled to their opinion right?

If you don't agree don't vote for them simple

That guy wants to fill your void op! I'm being vulgar because of the Sex Ed I received at school, s'not my fault...

Groovee · 07/05/2021 17:06

Over 500 votes for their candidate in Stornaway 😱😱

Captpike · 07/05/2021 17:52

That's a lot.

Groovee · 08/05/2021 17:24

The leader got just over 400 votes in Edinburgh Pentlands. Much less than when he was part of UKIP.
