Fantasising about a fictional character!!

I need your help and to know if I am a complete lunatic and BVU or if this is something that happens to other people.

I have always had a very overactive imagination and have a tendancy to daydream but this is the first time (in adulthood anyway) that I have developed a full on obsession with a fictional character. Not the actor who plays this character, but the character himself! Last night I found myself googling this character and falling into the rabbit hole of the Internet and finding reams of erotic fan fiction. I am ashamed to say I found myself still awake at 2am after reading through tons these short stories Blush call me niave but I had no idea this stuff existed before! I feel such a dork!

Am I abnormal? What does this say about this verging on middle-aged married mother? My marriage and sex life are good, I love my husband and find him very attractive, I don't feel depressed or lonely. What is going on?! Grin

AO3 has literally millions of fanworks and there are 52k+ which have Snape as a named character (although that could also mean as a background character).

To me, there are fics which are much better than some actual, published fiction and which I reread occasionally.

Oh yes I've got it bad for MCU Loki! Got a fantastic maladaptive daydream going on at the moment.

I hadn't actually thought about looking up Loki fanfic but i might do that now. That might mean the family aren't going to get any dinner tonight, while I'm extremely distracted!

Totally not unreasonable. I have a massive thing for Brashen from the liveship trilogy by Robin Hobb. I never want them to make a series as it would ruin it for me 😂

This! Snape?! SNAPE?!

Maybe it's different for those of us who read the books when younger? I just can't see him in any way other than a moody man who let his anger out on a boy based on a hatred of kid who bullied him. He was great in his own way of course and incredibly brave (Dumbledore was right), but he's still not crushworthy.

You lucky thing picking a popular character in a big fandom with a long history, there is years worth of quality fanfic to plough through. Go on AO3, sort by kudos, commence reading. You'll surface again eventually. Grin

This thread is ace. I don’t have a crush on Snape, but from what I’ve read so far (DCs and I have just finished HBP) he’s an intriguing character (and James Potter seems like a total dick, so yes, what was Lily thinking?)

It’s worn off a bit now the sequel trilogy is over, but I was totally in love with Kylo Ren / Ben Solo for a while. Adam Driver is lovely and a great actor, but it was definitely mostly about the character with his sad eyes, trembly bottom lip, cape, and big red light saber.

ITVs Harry Potter season has a lot to answer for Grin this is totally normal OP, Tommy Shelby is really the epitome of this. Everyone wants to shag Tommy with his sharp haircut and tortured soul and gangster ways. Not everyone is as keen on the lovely Cillian who plays him, who grows his hair long as is happily married and is a bit of a luvvie. Also see DI Steve Arnott.

Oooh! I’ve recently fallen into this hole! Not snape though.... love it. So glad there are others like me. Normal, upstanding mother and professional who reads erotic fanfic in her spare time. I though there was something wrong with me! 😂

Snape, wouldn't say no..

I discovered FF with when Marvel Movies started and MY eyes were opened ! I adore Loki and The Mandalorian (my shiny Beskar man ) but not together, oh but I'm sure that's in there somewhere!
FF is a rabbit hole of delight, there is some utter crap but there is some pure gold too I definitely recommend AO3, you may be lost for days in there though, Enjoy Grin

Even some of the truly terrible fan fics are hilarious. I read one with Grawp (Hagrid’s giant brother) in it that was just terrible though. Hmm Grin

I think at least 37% of the internet is erotic fan fiction about Severus Snape which means 1) you’re not alone, and 2) there’s plenty to keep you busy for the next few years
This made me giggle.

At least a further 16% must be Harry/Draco slash.

I'm amazed there is any room left for actual porn.

Perfectly normal, and simply a fun and, er, stimulating hobby. Let's just say I've had an AO3 account since 2007. And I agree that there's plenty of fic out there, some of it novel length, that's better than many published works.

I used to have a real thing for Sherlock/John and I still have a lingering love for Simon Tam of Firefly. I went through a period of reading so much slash that het love scenes seemed weird.
