Fantasising about a fictional character!!

HensTeeth44 · 16/04/2021 10:24

I need your help and to know if I am a complete lunatic and BVU or if this is something that happens to other people.

I have always had a very overactive imagination and have a tendancy to daydream but this is the first time (in adulthood anyway) that I have developed a full on obsession with a fictional character. Not the actor who plays this character, but the character himself! Last night I found myself googling this character and falling into the rabbit hole of the Internet and finding reams of erotic fan fiction. I am ashamed to say I found myself still awake at 2am after reading through tons these short stories Blush call me niave but I had no idea this stuff existed before! I feel such a dork!

Am I abnormal? What does this say about this verging on middle-aged married mother? My marriage and sex life are good, I love my husband and find him very attractive, I don't feel depressed or lonely. What is going on?! Grin

Pedro Pascal is my nemesis at the moment....Javier Pena (narcos) and Din Djarin (Mando) invade my mind at all times - Tumblr and AO3 are not helping either

HensTeeth44 · 16/04/2021 10:55

@WhereismyHeathcliff

Thank god there are others!! Grin

I think at least 37% of the internet is erotic fan fiction about Severus Snape which means 1) you’re not alone, and 2) there’s plenty to keep you busy for the next few years

Aposterhasnoname · 16/04/2021 10:59

Severus Snape, I totally would. Lily Potter was nuts to turn him down for James.

thelegohooverer · 16/04/2021 11:06

I have a very vivid internal life and daydream a lot. I don’t like the term maladaptive because it doesn’t interfere with anything important - it’s like reading a book or watching Netflix except I can do it in my head.
Some of it is original and some is based on fictional characters. But I avoid celebrity interviews as it utterly ruins the illusion. I even prefer not to see the actor in another role. I usually regret watching adaptations of books too.

I think there is a thread (or two) in classics about daydreams.

HensTeeth44 · 16/04/2021 11:08

@OolieMacdoolie

I am embarrassed to admit, I had absolutely no idea that fan fiction about anyone was a thing. My eyes have been truly opened! Wink

@Aposterhasnoname

Agreed!! What was she thinking? I think that's part of it, the tragic side of his character and how much he loved her.

Plus I reckon he'd be proper naughty!!!! Grin

Absolutely love Severus Snape!! Wink

I also love reading fan fiction so you are not alone. I have a friend who writes sevmione fiction which is really good. Dark but good!

CroutonsAvatar · 16/04/2021 11:18

I had this with Benedict’s Sherlock. 😂

Everyone thought I was mad.

Don’t find Cumberbatch attractive in the slightest, though.

helpfulperson · 16/04/2021 11:24

Fan fiction is a dangerous rabbit hole to fall down. Hours of your life will disappear.

Mapletreelane · 16/04/2021 11:27

I was obsessed with Tony di Nozzo from NCIS when pregnant, about 12 years ago. Had our love story mapped out in my head; it was an angsty one 😂

Currently have a crush on the Mandolorian. I'm the only one he'll take his mask off for 😆.

Think it is entirely natural and sometimes an escape from the stresses everyday life.

Right off to battle the evil empire with Mando.

DaphneHastings · 16/04/2021 11:33

I have an odd obsession with Joe Goldberg (the murdering psycho from "you"). Blush. I would risk him locking me in his cage.

IcedPurple · 16/04/2021 11:35

@mcdog

I'm dying for a good seeing to from Rupert Campbell-Black 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
That character was supposedly inspired by Andrew Parker Bowles!
babbaloushka · 16/04/2021 11:42

Mine was always Sirius Black, but I definitely see the appeal of Severus. Some of the fan fictions are incredibly well written too, there are some great ones of those characters at school- have you read The Life and Times?

MargaretThursday · 16/04/2021 11:43

Ds discovered Alex Rider fan fiction a few years ago when he'd run out of the books. He spent about 2 days last week rereading his favourite. It's about 500k words, I think.

notalwaysalondoner · 16/04/2021 11:48

It’s Jamie from Outlander for me. Perfect. But imperfect enough to be believable (particularly in the books). Snape is more surprising but whatever floats your boat.

VienneseWhirligig · 16/04/2021 11:48

I'd definitely give Gene Hunt or Ted Hastings a very good time Wink

Shamoo · 16/04/2021 11:48

Oh I’m a total fool for fan fic! Growing up I spent way way too long on Doug Ross ER stories.

Agree with @MaaMaaa!

Also love Strike fanfic.

Hours and hours of my life 😂 - it’s a safe escape so I don’t see an issue.

Didn’t know about the Severus love in though!

Shamoo · 16/04/2021 11:49

Ps I’m gay, but my fanfic loves are all men. Work that out 😂😂😂

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 16/04/2021 11:52

This!!

I am currently rereading the first fan fic I came across and started me off. This is like the third time I’ve read it because it’s so good.

kungfupannda · 16/04/2021 11:53

Captain Mal Reynolds from Firefly. Blush

ThisMustBeMyDream · 16/04/2021 11:59

Mine is Gene Hunt (nods to @VienneseWhirligig). I really don't know what it is, but he makes my heart go a flutter Grin. I'm a feminist at heart so he goes against every gene (hah!) in my body to find him attractive! It is definitely the character and not the actor too!

FolkyFoxFace · 16/04/2021 12:05

I'm 31 and I've had an ongoing crush on Severus Snape since I was about 12. 😂 Maladaptive daydreaming, fanfic guzzling, the whole works. I always thought it'd go away, but nope! I can't say it bothers me these days. 😂

Aragorn, though. Also would very much go there.

Merryoldgoat · 16/04/2021 12:07

Severus Snape?!

PassionPeach · 16/04/2021 12:11

I read and write erotic fanfiction for some really small/dying fandoms, so this isn't weird to me at all. I love reading fanfiction, and writing it! Nothing wrong with it at all. It's healthy to fantasise. Obviously if it starts taking over your life then you probably need to have a word, but for now, knock yourself out with it, and enjoy your time with Sexy Snape!
