Fantasising about a fictional character!!

HensTeeth44 · 16/04/2021 10:24

I need your help and to know if I am a complete lunatic and BVU or if this is something that happens to other people.

I have always had a very overactive imagination and have a tendancy to daydream but this is the first time (in adulthood anyway) that I have developed a full on obsession with a fictional character. Not the actor who plays this character, but the character himself! Last night I found myself googling this character and falling into the rabbit hole of the Internet and finding reams of erotic fan fiction. I am ashamed to say I found myself still awake at 2am after reading through tons these short stories Blush call me niave but I had no idea this stuff existed before! I feel such a dork!

Am I abnormal? What does this say about this verging on middle-aged married mother? My marriage and sex life are good, I love my husband and find him very attractive, I don't feel depressed or lonely. What is going on?! Grin

@HensTeeth44

Definitely got on Archive of our own.

I'm on there and I prefer it to fanfiction.net.

I had one of my fics on Fanfiction get reported because it had too much sex in it.

Archive of our own dont mind about that.

is there such a thing as too much sex?

I had one of my fics on Fanfiction get reported because it had too much sex in it.

I had to bowdlerise one of my fics so that wouldn't happen and it really pissed me off. I don't even write particularly explicit stuff. I have found a few excellent extended fics on ff.net that aren't on AO3 so I don't feel I can completely give up on the place.

MrsGulDukat · 18/04/2021 13:52

@bunglebee

I still use FF.net as I really dont care anymore. It was rated M.

@HensTeeth44

Tbf, there was sex in nearly every chapter on fic. I have however, wrote a fic recently that dare not put of FF.net.

Have they not read fan fiction before Grin

Is it even fanfiction if a coffee shop doesn’t appear or that was only one bed dammit!

Hensintheskirting · 18/04/2021 14:01

Fanfic is massively under appreciated. There are some great authors who take well known characters and just run with them, creating back stories and spin offs and alternatives. You can find some great stuff on AO3!

Dogmum40 · 18/04/2021 14:10

Mine is Jack Reacher! Just to have a night (or two or three).. with him and them for him to leave when his job is done sounds ideal GrinI imagine him to be great in the sack Blush also tv fiction is Jax Teller (weirdly I’m not keen on the actor Charlie) but my god I’d love him to ride me all night like he does his bike Grin

skeggycaggy · 18/04/2021 14:15

Anyone else also historic people? Eg Thomas Fairfax, civil war general (because I read Rosemary Sutcliff’s Rider of the White Horse at an impressionable age).

bunglebee · 18/04/2021 14:17

@skeggycaggy, I may kind of sort of have a thing for Thomas Cromwell thanks to Hilary Mantel...

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 18/04/2021 14:18

Rupert Campbell-Black is horrific. He's an abusive, unpleasant piece of work and I'm sure he's crawling with, well, something ...

That said as a teenager, I had a crush on the (almost) equally abusive Edward Fairfax Rochester who put it about almost as much as RCB and was probably also crawling with something. (Why are the Brontes' male protagonists so uniformly horrible?) I also had a bit of a crush on P D James's Adam Dalgleish and now can't imagine why. He's judgmental, bigoted, a roaring snob and with all the warmth and likeability of the freezing Antarctic.

Aragorn - now you're talking.

And if I weren't afraid he'd eat me (in the literal sense) there's something scarily compelling about Hannibal Lecter. That cultured, polished thing and the formidable intelligence I find quite the aphrodisiac. Pity he's a mass murderer.

I've properly shit out here, haven't I?

It is absolutely. Then you remember that My Immortal exists. If you dont know what that is.

skeggycaggy · 18/04/2021 14:18

Oh yeah!! Thomas Cromwell for sure.

Also John of Gaunt (Anya Seton obvs)

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 18/04/2021 14:20

NB. I also found some fanfic on the good psychiatrist so it seems I'm not the only woman to respond to him in this way. Weird, I call it (not excluding myself)!

Dogmum40 · 18/04/2021 14:20

Louis xiv to mainly see what all the fuss was about, he had so many women that I assume he was either great in bed or totally shite 🤣
bunglebee · 18/04/2021 14:21

This article (which points out that fanfic is overwhelmingly written by women and marginalised people and prioritises character and interior growth over "plot") changed my thinking about fanfic. I've always thought of it as a bit of a guilty pleasure, although I know I've no cause to and despite being firmly of the opinion that much of it is better than many published novels. The article I just linked to discusses how Rise of Skywalker did an absolutely crappy job of the redemption arc compared with many transformative fanworks.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 18/04/2021 14:23

Ha ha - love this thread. Snape has kept me um going for about 20 years now 😂

All my favourites have been mentioned I think 😂

Thomas Cromwell is my latest - finally got around to reading Wolf Hall

bunglebee · 18/04/2021 14:31

may or may not now be nurturing a plotbunny featuring why Sam is so mad about Bucky flirting with his sister

Icantreachthepretzels · 18/04/2021 14:41

It is absolutely. Then you remember that My Immortal exists. If you dont know what that is.

Isn't it generally accepted now that My Immortal is a troll fic? A really really really good troll fic - the pinnacle of its genre.

The bigger question is whether or not Hogwarts School of Prayer and Miracles, in which a pant suited atheist Aunt Petunia attempts to block Hagrid from delivering the immortal line 'you're a Christian, Harry', is a troll fic or not.

MrsGulDukat · 18/04/2021 14:45

Still brilliantly awful though.

The Christian Hogwarts one, I suspect that one might be deadly serious.

Icantreachthepretzels · 18/04/2021 14:47

Still brilliantly awful though.

Yeah, but I think you have to be really good to be that purposefully bad. Which is why most troll fics fall short of the mark.

MakingPlans21 · 18/04/2021 14:58

My crush used to be Mike Baldwin and Martin Platt from Corrie. My partner used to talk dirty to me about them together during our love making to really get me going.

It caused issues for a while as I thought my partner might be gay the way he spoke about it (very explicit) but he isn’t, he just liked making me randier than Ann Summers.

MintyCedric · 18/04/2021 15:00

So long as you keep your virtual mitts off Cormoran Strike, you crack on Grin

MakingPlans21 · 18/04/2021 15:03

Does anyone know of Classic Corrie erotic fan fic? The juicier the better please. I didn’t know such a thing existed.

MrsGulDukat · 18/04/2021 15:06

@MakingPlans21

Corrie fan fics just for you
