To think that liking white (grape) wine isn't something should be so snobby about.

I am not a frequent drinker of wine. But I find that people tend to love red wine. But drinking white (grape) wine is looked down upon. I don't care about your wine taste. It doesn't bother me. If you drink wine ...it doesn't matter. It's just bloody wine.urghh

Wait til you decide you like rosé 😂 I've asked for it at certain pubs and the look on the bartender's face.

Or like the time I dated to ask for a mocha in a cafe.

@PrelovedWithValue

I am quite happy drinking the aldi/lidl/tesco cheap white wine, but people think a £5 one will be better

Is £5 not a cheap wine? I think of it as cheap.

I agree £5 is cheap. I wouldnt go lower.
MolyHolyGuacamole · 15/04/2021 13:08

@Marmite27

Try being a rosè drinker Grin
Jinx! 😂 and don't get me started on the colour. Rosé has the be the right colour you know, some people will only condescend to drink a pale one. Won't be caught drunk if anything darker
ILoveShula · 15/04/2021 13:13

@PrelovedWithValue, I didn't say £5 wasn't cheap. I said it was more expensive than the Aldi/Lidl/Tesco cheap wine.

ILoveShula · 15/04/2021 13:18

I think that the cheap stuff is a blend of spanish wine. It's about 11% and is inoffensive. You're looking at a £2.89 - £3.69 price.

JorisBonson · 15/04/2021 13:20

Fucking hell, did I take acid by accident? What a bizarre post.

Off to calm down with a bottle of white. Made from grapes I hear.

Ok fair enough, but to me £5 would be a Tesco/Lidl/Aldi cheap wine. Which is what you implied a £5 wine isn't.

"Champagne tends to be made from Chardonnay grapes an' all."

They are allowed to use three grape varieties to make Champagne - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. A wine made solely from Chardonnay is called "Blanc de blancs".
A really good alternative to Champagne is Cremant de Bourgogne which uses the same grapes and enjoys possibly better growing conditions.

ILoveShula · 15/04/2021 13:24

I implied nothing of the sort. You assumed that i had.

I'm not going to argue with you, it's not that big a deal. But those are your words. I suspect it might read differently to how you intended it.

OwlBeThere · 15/04/2021 13:30

Who peels all the grapes to make white wine? What a fucking tedious job that must be.

ILoveShula · 15/04/2021 13:33

I think you read it differently. I could have worded it
I am quite happy drinking the aldi/lidl/tesco cheap white wine, but people think a £6.99 one will be better

or
I am quite happy drinking the aldi/lidl/tesco £3 cheap white wine, but people think a £5 one will be better

It was your assumption not my wording.

CounsellorTroi · 15/04/2021 13:33

I've never heard of or encountered this sort of wine snobbery. I like both red and white, slight preference for red but tend to drink white at parties as red has an unfortunate effect on my teeth and lips.

CounsellorTroi · 15/04/2021 13:35

Oh and I have to be careful with rose. Cheap rose gives me the most awful headache the morning after!

PrelovedWithValue · 15/04/2021 13:35

Well it doesn't appear like it's just me that read it that way. So make of that what you will.

If you enjoy CdB, may I also suggest Cremant de Loire, which is predominantly Chenin?

It is my ABSOLUTE favourite cremant - tastes like sherbet lemons!

I've also recently started getting into Cremant d'Alsace, which is generally Pinot Gris (bit more difficult to get hold of in the UK, though).

The unfortunate effect on your lips and teeth? Yes, I hear it can loosen people's inhibitions.

“Hello, I’ll have a large glass of the house red grape wine, please”.

Planttrees · 15/04/2021 13:42

I think what most people are missing here is the fact that there are plenty of white wines made with red grapes. The most common one is Champagne!

ILoveShula · 15/04/2021 13:42

Red wine stains some people's lips and teeth. It looks quite strange.

Zhampagne · 15/04/2021 13:42

@LadyJaye Aldi sometimes has crémant d’Alsace Smile Their crémant du Jura is excellent.

😂😂 who am I arguing with?
LadyJaye · 15/04/2021 13:46

I used to too but then I started to buy some and honestly, there's no difference between £5 and say £7 or £8 wines. In fact I've had much nicer £5 bottles than £8.

With respect, that's not entirely true, and it's mostly down to the high levels of taxation on imported wine in the UK.

While it's easy to pick up a perfectly drinkable bottle of table wine in France or Germany for a few Euros, the percentage of import duty applied means that most bottles of wine at the
