AIBU to be annoyed by message about washing my car

Neighbour has sent me a (second) message asking us when we’re going to wash our car. We ignored the first message.

It’s not muddy or dirty. The alloys are still silver. It’s just dusty because car washes have been closed for months. They’re good neighbours otherwise. AIBU to be irritated and to think I can decide when I want to wash my own car that’s doing nothing to them except sitting outside on the public road (and it’s not parked in front of their house, it’s parked in front of ours).

This could 100% be my in-laws. They used to badger us constantly about the 'state' of our perfectly normal car until I snapped at them.

They also regularly provide us with their many, many observations on their neighbours. Mostly disgust at unacceptable grass length, but dirty cars do feature.

Thing is I’ve taken my car through the car wash a few weeks ago, and that was a waste of money as the gritters are still out every night dusting it up!!! Not bothering til the warmer weather now!!!

We just haven’t got around to washing it by whatever means and it genuinely is not filthy or dirty. Yes the bonnet looks a bit dusty and maybe the roof when the sunlight hits it. I was peering at it through the windows and comparing it to other cars in the street and there’s not much difference (or my eyesight has gone to the crapper).

That’s what we thought too @TableFlowerss. That’s why we ignored the first couple of messages about it.

Looks like my neighbour has found the thread and voted that I’m BU.

"I'll clean it when I want you nosey fuckers!' - in caps of course

Can you hire some hunky Diet Coke-type guys to come round and wash your car? You could sit there on your lawn watching them, cocktail in hand whilst giving your neighbours a knowing look

I think it is a bit weird to be interested in the cleanliness of other people's cars.

I have had to put mine through the car wash a few times because the roads round here are so muddy during the winter, and my car wasn't just a bit dusty, but absolutely filthy.

This reminds me of the thread a few years ago by a poster who asked if she was being unreasonable to ask her neighbours to always keep their downstairs curtains open during the daytime. OP your neighbours sound just as bonkers!

Mine gets washed once a year, I used to work in deepest darkest 'Hampshire, it was always filthy.

This made me laugh! It pains my neighbour how dirty my car is. Like it physically pains him. The other day I caught him cleaning bird poo off my car (he's the cutest elder man ever though and would never tell me to clean my car but I do see the joy in his face when I clean it once a year) 🙈😂😂😂.

I'd be tempted to respond 'the day before we sell it'. Or something that is very unlikely 'the day one of your family wins Wimbledon', for example.

I don't have a car any more but when I did, I seldom washed it. If I did it was usually with a focus on windows, mirrors, lights and number plates.
I didn't see the point in doing the rest really - it was only going to get mucky again.

I have no idea whether my neighbours' cars are clean or not.

I know it’s a joke and probably not being serious but you should never write in the dirt on cars. It can scratch them.
Take it from someone who had Wanker faintly scratched into my bumper until I learnt you could buff if out
