AIBU to be annoyed by message about washing my car

Neighbour has sent me a (second) message asking us when we’re going to wash our car. We ignored the first message.

It’s not muddy or dirty. The alloys are still silver. It’s just dusty because car washes have been closed for months. They’re good neighbours otherwise. AIBU to be irritated and to think I can decide when I want to wash my own car that’s doing nothing to them except sitting outside on the public road (and it’s not parked in front of their house, it’s parked in front of ours).

Oh god they'd have hated us, we regularly went mudding/off roading, getting as messy as possible was half the fun. I'd welcome them to clean it when they do their own.

Whywonttheyhelpme · 13/04/2021 13:55

Cheeky fuckers. I would reply, “I will wash my car when I want it washed. When are you going to get a life?”

Tiktokersmiracle · 13/04/2021 13:55

"when you hurry up and get a life mate" would be my response but then I'm a bitch when someone thinks they can speak down to me and demand of me.

TheQueef · 13/04/2021 13:56

They text you twice about this?
Really?

expectopelargonium · 13/04/2021 13:56

Tell them you are doing your bit to save the planet by not using water unnecessarily.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 13/04/2021 13:57

I'd be blunt. "Not any time soon. Please stop messaging about it."

Phrenologist · 13/04/2021 13:57

Maybe all those old WASH ME/PLOUGH ME/BET YOU WISH YOUR WIFE WAS AS DIRTY AS THIS CAR/ ALSO AVAILABLE IN WHITE/WASHED BY STEVIE WONDER things written on dirty cars were all originally witty ripostes to clean-obsessive neighbours?

MidnightHangingTree · 13/04/2021 13:58

My car gets washed by the garage when it goes for its MOT, I don't bother in between... your neighbours would love me Grin

tigger1001 · 13/04/2021 13:58

@FelicityPike

Wow they would hate me. My car gets washed by the rain!
Yep mine too!
Tinydinosaur · 13/04/2021 13:58

I'd reply "feel free to do it yourself if it means that much to you."

Aquamarine1029 · 13/04/2021 13:58

Please tell us about these neighbours.

Wunderhorse · 13/04/2021 13:59

You definitely can't wash it now as it will open you up to all sorts of moany requests.

21summers · 13/04/2021 14:00

The dust on the bonnet of our car reportedly ‘makes Their car look dirty’?! Maybe that’s a joke?

I was planning to take it to the car wash at some point now non-essentials are open (England) - though this only started yesterday - but this message has annoyed me so we’ll probably be ‘very busy with work etc.’ the next few weeks.

Its very strange - they seemed fairly nice/normal Confused

I would repot asking when THEY are going to wash my car since it seems to bother them so much

Hoppinggreen · 13/04/2021 14:02

Reply not repot

21summers · 13/04/2021 14:03

@ElizabethTudor

Write in the dust on said car : NEVER :-)
Hahaha!

That made me chortle.
I wish there was enough dust on the side to do that now.

SmokedDuck · 13/04/2021 14:04

I'm middle aged and I've never washed any car I've ever owned!

I might decide to take a humorous approach to this, though. You have to be pretty weird to send a note like that once, much less twice.

21summers · 13/04/2021 14:05

@Longdistance

Mine is covered in bird shit from my work place. Do you want me to park outside your neighbours house? Grin
Haha, yes please!!!

cunningartificer · 13/04/2021 14:07

I agree don’t reply or you’ll be in a world of pain. They have absolutely no right to ask; it’s nothing to do with them. If they speak to you say you thought it was some odd joke or scam as you couldn’t work out why they would be asking such an intrusive and weird thing.

Changechangychange · 13/04/2021 14:08

Your neighbours are batshit. I’d reply “after you’ve fixed your gutters”. If there’s nothing wrong with their gutters, so much the better. Make them a bit paranoid.

SinkGirl · 13/04/2021 14:09

Are they always this bonkers?

ClarkeGriffin · 13/04/2021 14:09

I'd take it off roading. And then park it outside their house. Grin

Lockdownbear · 13/04/2021 14:11

Reply - Are you volunteering to do it?

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 13/04/2021 14:11

Do you think they're really serious? No chance they're just taking the pee?'

CirqueDeMorgue · 13/04/2021 14:11

You should start 'drawing' on it too as it gets more dusty.
