AIBU to be annoyed by message about washing my car

Neighbour has sent me a (second) message asking us when we’re going to wash our car. We ignored the first message.

It’s not muddy or dirty. The alloys are still silver. It’s just dusty because car washes have been closed for months. They’re good neighbours otherwise. AIBU to be irritated and to think I can decide when I want to wash my own car that’s doing nothing to them except sitting outside on the public road (and it’s not parked in front of their house, it’s parked in front of ours).

This is one of the funniest things I've read on here. People are so weird Grin

21summers · 13/04/2021 15:30

@RonSwansonsChair

I'm really struggling to understand how they think it's their business??? Also, they are saying your dirty car makes their car like dirty - to me that just means their car is even dirtier 😖😖 My brain hurts trying to figure this one out!!
I couldn’t figure this out either @RonSwansonsChair

Is it meant to be sarcastic , a ‘bringing down tone of the neighbourhood’ swipe?! Or a typo.

I’m loving all the suggestions on this thread, was wondering if I was the unreasonable one not keeping my car clean enough - during a pandemic of all things!

We’re (mostly) all lazy gits then! When it comes to cleaning our cars at least...

@CoraPirbright

Q: when are you going to wash your car? A: well, I wasn’t going to bother but if it’s bothering you that much, knock yourself out but please don’t scratch the paint work!

Cheeky fuckers!

I’d say “yes, like the ugly friend who makes you look better by comparison, my car will be making yours look clean and classy for a whole yet.”

wombatspoopcubes · 13/04/2021 15:39

Our neighbour asked us that once. We then postponed it for anout two months.

It really has nothing to do with them.

OldEvilOwl · 13/04/2021 15:40

Did you reply?

Spidey66 · 13/04/2021 15:42

Bloody cheeky!

Did they tell you to get your haircut too even though the hairdressers only reopened yesterday (in England anyway).

BrownEyedGirl80 · 13/04/2021 15:43

This reminds me of when ex dh was asked when he'd be cutting the grass by his next door neighbour.He didn't cut it for 4 years.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 13/04/2021 15:45

@ElizabethTudor

Write in the dust on said car : NEVER :-)
Made me LOL, literally!
harknesswitch · 13/04/2021 15:45

Text back 'on the 32nd of Julember

Beeme29 · 13/04/2021 15:46

Why would they care? 😂

GabsAlot · 13/04/2021 15:49

I was just thinking of washing my car its been about 6 months

but when i want to not anyone else-cheeky fucktards

TheDogsMother · 13/04/2021 15:50

Cheeky buggers. Don't dignify it with a response and just keep ignoring. I'm afraid this would make me deliberately not wash my car for even longer.

21summers · 13/04/2021 15:51

@OldEvilOwl

Did you reply?
No @OldEvilOwl. I’ve been too busy laughing at the suggestions on this thread.

Honestly, it annoys me a little to even think about acknowledging them, like I owe them an answer or explanation for my actions (or lack thereof in this case).

I know full well they’ll stew, and complain to anyone on the street who’ll listen so I’ll just kick back here and stay zipped 😎

I would text back

  • I think you are sending this text to us by mistake. I don't know who its meant for, but I thought you might like know.

Mock misunderstanding and sweetness in the first instance!

OldEvilOwl · 13/04/2021 15:54

I would ignore it too

PuzzledObserver · 13/04/2021 15:55

I’ve had my car 5 months and have washed it twice - once because a pigeon did a big poo on it and it would damage the paintwork if left, and the second time after the Sahara dust storm - but I only cared about that because it’s new. With my previous car, I used occasionally to stick it through a car wash, but mostly relied on the dealer doing it for free when it went in for anything.

I would struggle to know how to deal with a message like this. Anything I’m coming up with sounds really juvenile, and I would kind of want to rise above that level. I think I would mostly want to convey a sense of bemusement that they even asked the question.

PhilCornwall1 · 13/04/2021 15:56

God, tell your neighbour to fuck off. That would be my go to if my neighbour did this.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 13/04/2021 15:59

I would draw a middle finger in the dust but I’m immature 😆

altforvarmt · 13/04/2021 16:01

I would reply “It’s forecast to rain on Sunday; that’ll do the trick!”

Queenoftheashes · 13/04/2021 16:02

You are in a war now, wage it like Larry

Happy to send DH and his petrol powered jet wash around at 7am on a Sunday if it helps 😎

mindutopia · 13/04/2021 16:03

Ha, the last time I washed my car was before the first lockdown last March. I can't even remember the time before that.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/04/2021 16:03

They would hate living by me 😂😂😂

I would reply feel free to wash it if it bothers you
