AIBU to be annoyed by message about washing my car

Neighbour has sent me a (second) message asking us when we’re going to wash our car. We ignored the first message.

It’s not muddy or dirty. The alloys are still silver. It’s just dusty because car washes have been closed for months. They’re good neighbours otherwise. AIBU to be irritated and to think I can decide when I want to wash my own car that’s doing nothing to them except sitting outside on the public road (and it’s not parked in front of their house, it’s parked in front of ours).

I think you need to drive down lots of country lanes that move dairy cows regularly. Then you can have a lingering odour too.

lolacola77 · 13/04/2021 15:06

Tell them to crack on and do it themselves if they're so bothered! Cheeky twats! I'm dying to see how this unfolds...

LakieLady · 13/04/2021 15:06

@WonkyCactus

Wow. If I got a message like that, you can guarantee I would never wash my car again until one of us moved house!
I was thinking along similar lines!

They really are taking the piss.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 13/04/2021 15:06

Are there really people like this in the world?

Mumteedum · 13/04/2021 15:08

Draw a big penis on the bonnet in the dirt and say nothing Grin🍆

RonSwansonsChair · 13/04/2021 15:09

I'm really struggling to understand how they think it's their business???
Also, they are saying your dirty car makes their car like dirty - to me that just means their car is even dirtier 😖😖 My brain hurts trying to figure this one out!!

RonSwansonsChair · 13/04/2021 15:10

Like = look
🙄

1WayOrAnother2 · 13/04/2021 15:10

Tell them 'not until the stars have realigned - as the omens are really not good just now'?

theleafandnotthetree · 13/04/2021 15:11

How small would your life have to be to even think about something like this, let alone get to the point of texting your neighbour about it. It's actually embarrassing

1WayOrAnother2 · 13/04/2021 15:11

They don't have enough to worry about. Provide things :)

eatsleepread · 13/04/2021 15:11

Write a cheeky message in the dust! Grin

Mochudubh · 13/04/2021 15:13

I thought this was going to be about neighbours complaining about you washing your car in the street and getting water or soap everywhere, rather than not washing it.

We have neighbours who do this and it makes the pavement and road a deathtrap when it's icy. I've never complained though.

I've leave it as long as possible, maybe they'll take things into their own hands and wash it for you.

longtompot · 13/04/2021 15:14

@Dontbeme

Message back "car is clean, maybe your windows are dirty? The other neighbours were all talking about it at the BBQ" leave them to ponder what BBQ, which neighbours and how long you have all been chatting about them.
I like this reply 😆
tashac89 · 13/04/2021 15:15

How weird! They would hate me. Not only is my car dirty, the wing mirror is held on by hopes, dreams and gorilla tape Grin
I'd ignore them.

FeloniusGru · 13/04/2021 15:16

I can’t imagine being so upset about dirt on someone else’s car that I needed to message them about it... twice! Confused
Really odd behaviour, have they nothing better to do?!

Lyricallie · 13/04/2021 15:17

I'm so petty even if I was going to do it. This would stop any notions of that.

moochingtothepub · 13/04/2021 15:18

Quite willing to park mine in front of their house, the seagulls have been using it as target practice!

I use a hand car wash (when I get around to it) and they have been shut, would be very annoyed at neighbours moaning - I don't have water where my car is parked

DaphneDuBois · 13/04/2021 15:20

I’d also it ignore it every single time they write a cowardly note. When they raise it to your face, be very clear that when you decide to wash your car is something that they have absolutely no say in over and never will. I think the suggestion that you express surprise that it isn’t a scam or a windup because it’s such an unheard of thing for neighbours to try to get involved in is a good one.

moochingtothepub · 13/04/2021 15:20

@LagunaBubbles

Haha sounds familiar! Exh was forever whinging about the state of the car, he was at liberty to clean it of course ....

Closetbeanmuncher · 13/04/2021 15:21

Why the hell does it matter to your neighbours whether you have washed your car or not?

Because believe it or not some people really are that pathetic and up their own arsehole 😂

Bonariensis · 13/04/2021 15:22

Gosh, I clean my car twice a year, whether it needs it or not!

oakleaffy · 13/04/2021 15:23

What a loon!does he hoover his lawn?!

21summers · 13/04/2021 15:25
@21summers yeah, only if you clean your car first Grin
Touché @AvonCallingBarksdale. touche!! 😏

My car gets washed once a year when it gets a service.

LaganinaBubble · 13/04/2021 15:28

Oh wow this is the best idea ever 😁🤣 Even without referencing a secret bbq, just tell them it must be their windows 😁
