AIBU to be annoyed by message about washing my car

Neighbour has sent me a (second) message asking us when we’re going to wash our car. We ignored the first message.

It’s not muddy or dirty. The alloys are still silver. It’s just dusty because car washes have been closed for months. They’re good neighbours otherwise. AIBU to be irritated and to think I can decide when I want to wash my own car that’s doing nothing to them except sitting outside on the public road (and it’s not parked in front of their house, it’s parked in front of ours).

What the actual?!?! Lucky they’re not my neighbours. It’s been so long since I washed my car, it’s got moss growing on the windows.

ThePix · 14/04/2021 17:23

I would go looking for off road muddiest place I could find and do wheel spins and then leave it outside their house. Petty? Ah well 🤣

Yogalola · 14/04/2021 17:26

What’s it to them, you’re the one who owns it?

Tessabelle1 · 14/04/2021 17:28

I'd be finding a nice muddy lane if it was me getting notes like that Grin yanbu

Mumzy2020 · 14/04/2021 17:29

@CoraPirbright

Q: when are you going to wash your car? A: well, I wasn’t going to bother but if it’s bothering you that much, knock yourself out but please don’t scratch the paint work!

Cheeky fuckers!

Exactly what i would say!!
Tomorrowillbeachicken · 14/04/2021 17:29

I think your neighbor needs a hobby

caspersmagicaljourney · 14/04/2021 17:29

If they are that bothered maybe they could offer to wash it for you?
That's what I would say if a neighbour said that to me. Cheeky😁

TheDogsMother · 14/04/2021 17:30

I'm in a rural country lane so cars stay clean for approximately three minutes after a wash. A clean looking car round here is a very unusual sight and and mine is currently languishing under a cloak of pigeon shit. Thankfully all the neighbours are equally unbothered.

VK456 · 14/04/2021 17:30

They’d love me. Mine is slowly developing its own ecosystem - algae, moss and I couldn’t give two hoots.

Itsokthanks · 14/04/2021 17:31

Hilarious. Why are they bothered.

AnnieSnap · 14/04/2021 17:32

Bloody hell! That’s outrageous. What weird neighbours (or probably just one weirdo) you have. Take no notice unless you discover who it is. Then, tell them that if it’s so offensive to them, they can feel free to wash it!

Cariadm · 14/04/2021 17:35

WTAF?!!!! Why is it that some people don't even know where the line is that they are not supposed to cross?! Tempting as it is to reply with any/all of the suggestions here you must treat it with the contempt it deserves which is to completely ignore the messages...it will of course be very interesting to see if there is a 3rd message and also what might they have in mind if you do indeed NEVER wash the car?!!

jentinquarantino20 · 14/04/2021 17:35

I wish I had their problems

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 14/04/2021 17:37

I’d be leaving it even longer just for their cheeky message!!

Hollyhead · 14/04/2021 17:41

Lol @Hophopandaway the reason people used to do such tedious stuff is because there was fuck all to do in the 80s compared to now. Why wash a car when you could be watching Netflix or out somewhere fun.

You say 'lack of pride' I raise you 'people have their priorities right'.

Our next door neighbour used to wash and wax his very clean car every Sunday, I judged heavily at the waste of resources. Disgusting.

LILLYPRINT · 14/04/2021 17:43

Take a hose pipe round to them and tell them if it bothers them that much they can do it for you

Beline4u · 14/04/2021 17:44

That is so weird!! Why would it be their concern?

TheSandman · 14/04/2021 17:46

FFS! Really? Cheeky fuckers. There's moss growing on mine.

I presume by "They’re good neighbours otherwise." you mean you never see them and they haven't done anything annoying.

MRSsqueak · 14/04/2021 17:49

reply with aint nobody got time for dat GrinGrinHmm

Julia001 · 14/04/2021 17:49

The would have to put a cock and balls infantile picture in the dust ! But then I am as petty as fuck

ShoeJunkie · 14/04/2021 17:55

I could send DS2 round - I let him ‘clean’ my car as a fun lockdown activity. I honestly think it ended up dirtier than when he started Grin

ChubbyMoomin · 14/04/2021 17:56

We had a similar problem with our neighbour, but it was about our property in general. He had it in for us anyway because of a fence dispute that he took to court- we won & he was probably bitter.

He started sending us letters from the “local residents” that were clearly just from him, complaining about the “terrible dilapidated state” of our property (there’s nothing actually wrong with it, honestly it’s fine- just not as immaculately pristine as his!)
Don’t think he has much else to with his time to be honest. As tempting as it was to reply we did just ignore it & after about 6 months of these letters he gave up.

tryinghardnottocry · 14/04/2021 17:56

I would reply that I am too time poor to deal with it at present, if it is irritating you then you are welcome to clean it and I will make a donation to a charity of your choice

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 14/04/2021 17:57

Total fruit-loopery.

(One reason people used to wash and wax their cars all the time in the 70s and 80s was because the paint finishes and anti-rust treatments weren’t what they are today)

K821 · 14/04/2021 17:57

How nice it must be to have such an easy life that something so insignificant bothers them so much!!!
