To buy a Nissan Qashqai

Need a new, bigger car.

Love the Qashqai, but have heard not great things re reliability. It's what I would ideally buy.

It's that or a Kia Sportage.

Am I really setting myself up for a lot of bills with a Nissan? Or should I still to the more boring but more reliable Kia (which has the balance of a 7 year warranty)?

I had a mazda 2 for years, never had any issues with it so am now a bit of a mazda fan. When I upgraded I test drove among others, a QQ, and a mazda CX-5. The mazda felt like it was in a completely different class to the QQ. QQ felt like a rollerskate in comparison. Definitely feel like the CX-5 needs to be in your mix

Hated the one we had worst car we ever had. Blind spot was gigantic..

Test drive one and see how you feel.

What does a Nissan Quashqai have to do with image? It fits the same bill as the first Citroën Picasso. Family friendly mummobile with very little inherent durability. I had one and it was great albeit utilitarian.

I have a Ford Kuga. Similar size, had it 5 years and never had an issue

The new Honda CRV is available as a Hybrid if that would be on interest?

What is the cost of the hybrid secondhand approximately?

I have an 8 year old +2 and it’s been brilliant. No issues, runs consistently. Not great at up hill in snow but that’s probably the only downside. 3 kids and a dog and a roof box for holidays.

Manual qashqai - no problems and big boot space - wanted a car that could fit buggy and other stuff easily.

mermaidsariel · 24/04/2021 10:09

Watching with interest as we need a new car.
I would love a Honda CRV hybrid but they are very expensive and non second hand that I can find.

Qashqui doesn’t have great boot space or enough room for 3 on the back seat. But it’s reasonably compact and the diesel version is economical to run. The filters clog though.

I had one too. It was the best car we ever had. Great boot space and plenty of room in the back.

@mermaidsariel
I easily get 3 car seats in the back of mine. It's many faults but that isn't one of them!

She says she can't get 3 on the back seat, not 3 car seats.

I can just about get 3 if my petite teen DD goes in the middle seat, although thinking about it, I haven't had to try for a year with lockdown and she has definitely grown, so I think it will be impossible now! Previously it only worked for very short trips anyway.

Why buy VWs at all when there are much higher quality alternatives?

VWs are cheaper than the equivalent Audi, Mercedes, BMW etc.

VWs are more affordable high quality.

mermaidsariel · 01/05/2021 12:23

I am watching this with interest but becoming increasingly confused. We did have a Quashqui diesel but got rid of it after the filters clogged up for the second time. The boot space wasn't great but otherwise it was OK.
Looking for a SUV with good boot space and reliability as well as fuel economy but there really isn't much point in buying anything but hybrid or electric now and they are too expensive. VW Touran or Tiguan?
We very occasionally have three people in the back, but mostly its two of us. I would like enough space for three adults in the back if necessary.
What is best? Honda CRV, Kia Sportage or Hyandi Tucson?

Skoda. The Karoq is the same as the VW T Roc, but cheaper. DH has a Golf. The dash, mechanics and electrics are exactly the same as my Karoq. The only thing is hasn't got is a VW badge.
