To buy a Nissan Qashqai

Need a new, bigger car.

Love the Qashqai, but have heard not great things re reliability. It's what I would ideally buy.

It's that or a Kia Sportage.

Am I really setting myself up for a lot of bills with a Nissan? Or should I still to the more boring but more reliable Kia (which has the balance of a 7 year warranty)?

@welshladywhois40

My neighbour have the Kia shortage and says it's small in the backseat

That's what they get for buying short cars😁
Justgivemesomepeace · 11/04/2021 14:56

Ive had mine for 5yrs and I love it. Nothings ever gone wrong on it.

JustAnotherOldMan · 11/04/2021 15:01

The one with the best warranty

Have a look at the Hyundai Tucson - it's very highly specced in comparison for the price, and it handles and runs like a dream

I had never even contemplated a hyundai before- needed a second car had the dealer had a 12 plate hyundai i10 matching our criteria.

Had it 5 years and it’s given us less trouble than our newer bought from new car. I bloody love it, to the point that now we are looking to upgrade the bigger car, we had planned another brand, but have now changed our minds and will look at the Kona or Tuscon.

FuckyouCovid21 · 11/04/2021 15:07

Don't. My 17 plate was a bag of shit, so much so it was replaced with a 19 plate as a goodwill gesture. Another absolute bag of shit.

@Happytobejabbed

If you are considering new/nearly new then you are within spitting distance of similarly sized electric cars - Nissan Leaf, VW id3?

Have you considered moving away from ic engined cars?

I think this is spot on. Interested to hear the response (I predict range, body type - not "high up" enough or roomy enough)

Price?
There is about 7+k difference between qq or sportage and leaf. Even more between them and vw.

@Coldilox

If you have a 2015 qashqai I suggest you keep a really close eye on the oil. Us, along with a lot of other people have had engine problems (ours needed a whole new engine). Not to frighten you but I suggest you Google:
nissan technical bulletin tb em 15/05

You can see if your chassis number is one of the ones with a potential issue. It's also been covered in The Guardian.

Despite the problems with our qashqai we do love it!

Mrshyat · 11/04/2021 16:12

@scubalubs87 - if your qashqai is a 2015 model do keep an eye on the oil. I don't want to frighten people but we had no warnings show up until the whole engine was gone. Ours broke down on the motorway! The engine was beyond repair.

Here you can see The Guardian link : www.theguardian.com/money/2017/jan/28/nissan-qashqai-engine-failure-mechanical-oil-problems

nitsandwormsdodger · 11/04/2021 16:18

🤣at the idea of a QQ projecting an air of a lifestyle

Common so good for parts
Comfortable two baby seats and slim granny in between

JustFrustrated · 11/04/2021 16:18

Qashqais are fine. Had one for work for 5 years total, banged 45k on the first one and 52k on the second - mix of driving terrains, each car I had for 2 years.

There was a well known battery issue and they have zero power.

Had a Sportage for a couple of weeks the other week whilst my Peugot was in the shop - hated it. Awful car.

Both have small boots.

Have you considered the Puegoet 3008. I have the 308 estate and she's beautiful. Then I had the 3008 for a weekend whilst mine was in the shop, and loved it. For an SUV it was a nice drive.

Remmy123 · 11/04/2021 16:19

I have one and it's so reliable never ever let me down

Ormally · 11/04/2021 16:25

Had 2, latest being the 2019. Never any problems. Very comfortable (DD is 10 so can't speak for teen leg lengths) and quiet. Even after the earlier one, driving away in the current one for the first few days was a bit freaky in terms of suddenly being able to hear nearly everything. Boot space and extendability for more space was good.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 11/04/2021 16:27

The name sounds like Cash Cow in my accent, that alone would put me off Grin

Gingersay · 11/04/2021 16:27

We are on our 3rd Hyundai Tucson they are fab cars, we used to only buy Mazda but now we have 2 hyundai's.
Cars are my DHs thing so we change cars quite a lot, we are currently eyeing up the New Tucson hybrid.

Tinacollada · 11/04/2021 16:29

Ghastly and projecting a lifestyle 😂

Hope the PP never sees a Range Rover

ToryStelling · 11/04/2021 16:30

We’re looking to upgrade our car and are considering a Seat Ateca. Supposed to be one of the best smaller SUVs around, and you can get decent second hand ones for about £11k.

allofthecheese · 11/04/2021 16:34

I have one! Diesal, 2016. I really like it. Not had any problems with it so far and love the boot space.

ThursdayLastWeek · 11/04/2021 16:35

We’ve had ours from new for approaching 4 years and o still enjoy driving it.

I wonder what lifestyle I’m projecting, because I’ve always seen the QQ as about the most basic car choice there is - Hey guys, I’m approaching middle age and have a young family. I sometimes go to M&S.

AlexaRain · 11/04/2021 16:42

I'm weighing up the VW T-Roc and Nissan Qashquai. A 3 year old one that I'll buy once I have to commute again in Autumn.

I'll also have a look into some of these other suggestions, thanks.

RosesAndHellebores · 11/04/2021 16:44

I looked at it when I replaced my SMax a couple of years ago. Tiny boot. Not much room in the back and felt very flimsy. Not much power under the bonnet either unless going for top spec. Bought a Honda CRV instead and very happy with it.

My parents have the Sportage. It's quite a lot bigger than our Qasqai and bulky which makes it a pain in public car parks. They liked it as it had the weight to tow their caravan but are now looking to downsize it to something more convenient.

There are problems with the Qashqai engines of a couple of years ago. Our 66 plate failed at 12K miles and was replaced under warranty. New ones should not have that problem.

Other than that - the beeping from the proximity sensors drives me scatty but I quite like driving it. Certainly far nicer than the Ford Focus it replace
pigandmonkey · 11/04/2021 16:54

I have a Hyundai Tucson and like it. It gets better gas economy than DH's RAV4. Both cars are about five years old so I don't know about newer models.

Georgieporgie29 · 11/04/2021 16:55

Dh has had both. He loved the quashqai and hated the Kia. The Kia was a bit tinny and just didn’t feel very sturdy.

wanderlove · 11/04/2021 16:59

We have a 2013 7 seat Qashqai and even though I love the look and feel of it we have had no end of issues. New gearbox within a year, not very powerful, random lights coming on and no garage except for the dealership knows what the hell is going on. ££££££! We'll run this one into the ground but wouldn't get another. I think we've been unlucky but I probably wouldn't buy another Nissan
