They are keeping Andrew out the way, arent they?

On the bbc news, 3 out 4 of the queen's children wished to say something in tribute to their father...

Andrew is obviously been kept on the back burner. They must know there's only so much the less fawning of us can take.

@Sparklingbrook

According to the news he’s been outside the Chapel at Windsor talking to reporters this afternoon.
So he got doorstepped as he came out of church. So what?

Going to church isn't 'keeping out of the way'.

That's a horrible attitude to take and smacks of slander. If you are talking about Bishop Ball, he fooled loads of people! Even the lovely AofC, George Carey, who said after it all came out, "We were all duped"

How is it horrible?

Charles maintained a relationship with Ball, made enquiries at Lambeth Palace on his behalf and even bought him a house all after he'd accepted a police caution for sex offences in 1992:

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/14/friendship-with-prince-charles-made-paedophile-bishop-peter-ball-impregnable

it was not an 'open secret' about Saville either. There were rumours but there are alway rumours about people in the public eye and he was generally highly regarded

There are countless reports of Savile's activities being an open secret both at the BBC and at Stoke Mandeville. He was actually barred by the Beeb from any involvement in Children In Need.

Considering the limited contact Prince Charles would have had with either of them, he can hardly be accused of knowing about their nefarious activities. They were actually a shock to all

See above for the contact he maintained with Ball and the lobbying on his behalf. He was close enough with Savile to attend private dinners at his home and give him gold cufflinks for his 80th. He also asked him to give Fergie advice when her marriage was imploding. Hardly the stuff of 'limited contact'.
There were also eyebrows raised at his conduct towards female staff on royal premises:

FangsForTheMemory · 11/04/2021 17:04

They've been keeping him out of the way for about 30 years, as anyone who works in that field could tell you.

JosephineBaker · 11/04/2021 17:15

@Alsohuman

You don’t need to see someone every day to miss them. I’m sure Charles does miss his dad. When I read that I thought “Not nearly as much as you’re going to miss him in the coming weeks and months, you poor bugger”.
Absolutely. The idea of waking up in a world without my mother in it was horrible. I felt ripped apart. There was a gaping hole and I viscerally missed her.

He's not under house arrest!

By keeping away people don't mean staying locked at home, it means not being wheeled out on royal duties Confused

Also the FBI tweet is doctored, perhaps the idea a PP had about a swap with AS isn't a bad one.

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2021 17:21

Oh. Confused I would have thought it meant not going anywhere he was likely to have to speak to public/press.

Doomsdayiscoming · 11/04/2021 17:35

@SleepingStandingUp

We can only hope one day he is. And then convicted and in proper prison.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/04/2021 17:35

Thank you for saving me typing some of that detail, CathyorClaire

It sounds very much as if some haven't read the IICSA conclusions; I can recommend it, but in the meantime the Church Times also reports Charles's letter to the wretched Ball on the subject of Neil Todd thus:
“I can’t bear it that the frightful, terrifying man is on the loose again, doing his worst ..."
“I was visiting the vicar ... and we were enthusing about you and your brother and he then told me that he heard that this ghastly man was up to his dastardly tricks again ... I will see off this horrid man if he tries anything again"

Leaving aside the rather worrying issue of what he meant about "seeing off" someone who was a victim of his friend's hideous abuse, that was written in 1997 and Ball was arrested in 1993. Nor, having referred to Todd "doing his worst" with his "dastardly tricks", could he claim not to have known about the allegations - though I'm prepared to believe he resisted finding out the full story

Either way that's really not someone I want as my head of state ... and yet still it's Andrew who gets most of the attention when it comes to paedophile pals

Alsohuman · 11/04/2021 17:37

Me too @JosephineBaker. 💐

Convicted of what?

Ffs, keeping out of the way means no public life, not never leaving the house.
Frownette · 11/04/2021 17:39

@JaniieJones

'So many posters defending raping a sex trafficked girl barely out of secondary school. Vile vile vile.'

Allegedly. For the trillionth time I'm not defending him. If they charge him etc fine but this mn kangaroo court is ridiculous, we have a correct legal process for a reason.

Agree, I just wish he'd cooperate and tell the FBI all he knows about how Epstein operated. Don't we all!
Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2021 17:41

Oh right. Confused

Roussette · 11/04/2021 17:44

He’s done a lot of damage to the monarchy and must be a huge embarrassment to the Queen

That's the problem. I don't think he is.

If he was a huge embarrassment the Queen would not have taken him to Church (when there was no obligation to do so) just 12 hours after the Maitlis interview.
He can do no wrong.

crosstalk · 11/04/2021 17:59

@daisypond

Agree. I did two obits for a non-BBC broadcaster - one Diana, the other Philip. Decades ago. Little did I think which would be used first. Though mine wouldn't have been in their original state as their lives progressed. Most of the people I interviewed for Philip died before him anyway but yes they used the past tense.

Interestingly at least one person in Philip's obit was dead IMHO - can't remember if they changed the voice over. Newspapers keep banks of obits which are fairly regularly refreshed. I had a freelance friend who made a living from writing obits - bizarrely sometimes about friends who had made it.

It seems the other Andrew thread has been deleted.
I suggest people switch to Twitter now if they are interested in how Andrew’s speech is being received .

ssd · 11/04/2021 20:32

Oh has he done a speech? Maybe hes read this thread and decided to show himself Grin

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2021 20:37

No speech, he just came out of the church and the press were there...

And he took the opportunity to speak / be interviewed .

Either that or it was sanctioned from the top .

Neither is good
