A current discussion taking place in my house.

After catching a stream on youtube it was brought up with people incredulous that some people do/dont face the shower head when showering.

I laughed to my friend that i face away like normal people and started WW3 because of course she faces the shower...

What do you do? Is it different depending where you are and where soap etc is stored.. how has this taken up so much of my head space tonight??

AIBU - Face the shower head YANBU- Face away from the shower head

I face away from the shower to wash my hair and back and then turn around to face the shower to wash my face and all other body parts including my legs and feet.
Then I detach the smaller shower attachment to rinse everywhere.

WeatherwaxOn · 10/04/2021 18:36

Both.
Get in and back up so that my shoulders etc. are wet. Turn around and apply soap/shower gel/shampoo. Turn around, rinse off back, lather front, apply conditioner if needed. Turn around, rinse, exit.
Max time 5 mins.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 10/04/2021 18:42

@angelikacpickles

Both surely? Face away to wet hair, turn around to rub in shampoo while facing towards, then face away to rinse hair. Same for conditioner. Face towards to wash face, turn both ways to wash body.
Surely this is the RIGHT AND CORRECT WAY?

I’m never still in the shower between reaching for shampoo/soap/conditioner, stepping away from the stream of water so whatever product I’m using doesn’t get washed away before it does it’s job, adjusting the temperature, etc.

Bellabelloo · 10/04/2021 18:46

Just gave facing away from the shower head a go. Not for me! My front was cold and exposed!

mynameiscalypso · 10/04/2021 18:46

I briefly face the shower when I have to but generally face away. Otherwise a murderer might creep up on me!

Troyhelena · 10/04/2021 18:48

I generally go side-on with my front facing the shower door

AlwaysLatte · 10/04/2021 19:01

We have one that has a head on the wall and another that is a rainfall one which is the one I use most. If I use the wall mounted one I always face away from it. I thought everyone did!

DontBeRidiculous · 10/04/2021 19:04

I face away most of the time, but turn toward it to do certain parts of the washing (face, for instance). My water pressure makes it uncomfortable to face the shower too much, plus it's not convenient to wash my hair facing the water.

MadCattery · 10/04/2021 19:08

I had my shower modified so there is one flat, rainfall type, shower head in the center. DH has one side, I have the other. We each have corner shelves for shampoo, razors, etc. We always shower together. When I’m rinsing, I step into the water, when he is, he steps in. On a good day, we meet in the middle!

Laytwir024 · 10/04/2021 19:11

This is crazy. Of course I face forward! You have the shower below your face and splash up. How do you turn it off and on and switch temperature?

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 10/04/2021 19:39

Surely both, AND detach shower head to wash undercarriage properly?

EmpressSuiko · 10/04/2021 19:42

Face away for most of the shower but turn to rinse face/front of body.

DenisetheMenace · 10/04/2021 19:43

Face. Much prefer a bath though (when I face the tap Grin)

CaffiSaliMali · 10/04/2021 19:56

Both - face for most of it as I like to see my reflection in the shower pipes when scrubbing my co-wash and rinsing it off my scalp so I can see if I've missed anything. Also I face it to wash my face and to access extra water to squish my conditioner in.

I face away to rinse my conditioner out and to get my hair fully soaking wet.

Mine isn't detachable, it sits maybe a foot above my head. I turn it on and get the temp right before i get in facing away and towards the door after dark because as a pp mentioned - monsters and burglars..

I turn on the spot in a kind of ‘pig on a spit’ rotation, depending on which bits I’m currently washing. I always face away during hair rinsing (soap in eyes isn’t ideal). If the shower can be detached, I take it off for extra flap & fold freshness.

Be careful with your rotation technique; after a particularly ferocious twirl, I spun out like a juggernaut on a wet racetrack & broke my collarbone.

Thinking of my shower technique, I’ve realised I also do the slow rotate (like an elephants leg kebab in a chip shop) in front of a log fire.

MiddleClassProblem · 10/04/2021 21:13

@CentrifugalBumblePuppy like a rotisserie chicken?

Macncheeseballs · 10/04/2021 21:16

I like the water on my face

KingdomScrolls · 11/04/2021 00:33

Both, we have an overhead shower with a smaller moveable one attached lower down. I get in stand right under it so it's directly above my head like heavy rain, step back facing it to shampoo, turn around back under the water so hair is rinsing while I wash my body, then face scrub then turn around again, face into the water look up so I can wash my face properly, then condition and just stand with my face turned up towards the water for a bit, I love it. Then turn back around rinse conditioner off. Finally switch to the smaller hand held, spray the shower screen, squeedgee, water off, get out.

Bert2e · 11/04/2021 12:29

@Bluntness100

Away - so I can look out the window while I shower! Front gets wet as the water comes over my shoulders and yes I'm sure many of you will think I'm a total skank but I don't soap my body except bits and pits and it just gets washed with the run off!

So you basically don’t wash your body?

Not with soap no - don't soap my feet either! There really is no need. Do those of you who scrub their entire body with soap also use anti bac spray on everything?! Some people really do seem to have an obsession with this sort of stuff.
Bluntness100 · 11/04/2021 12:40

I never quite understand anyone who thinks that if you wash your body with soap and water you must be some form of obsessed clean freak who anti bacs everything.

Confused
StevieNix · 11/04/2021 12:49

Start facing the shower, wash my face. Then back to the shower to wash my hair. Then face the shower to wash my body.

Glitterblue · 11/04/2021 12:54

I face away to begin with, shampoo my hair, rinse it, put conditioner in, soap all over, rinse while still facing away, turn round to wash my face and at that point, the front of me gets rinsed, then I turn away from it again to rinse the conditioner out. So I'd say most of my shower is facing away, apart from when I wash my face.

umberellaonesie · 11/04/2021 13:04

Away, hot water on your face is not great. Particularly for me as I have roscea. I watch my face in sink first then shower. Only wash my hair once a week too.
