A current discussion taking place in my house.

After catching a stream on youtube it was brought up with people incredulous that some people do/dont face the shower head when showering.

I laughed to my friend that i face away like normal people and started WW3 because of course she faces the shower...

What do you do? Is it different depending where you are and where soap etc is stored.. how has this taken up so much of my head space tonight??

AIBU - Face the shower head YANBU- Face away from the shower head

Face towards it. In my case I wonder if it stems from ancient memories of the temperature controls being dodgy and having to be able to twiddle them instantly to avoid being frozen or boiledGrin

Sarahtrue11 · 10/04/2021 16:53

I face forward, then face away.

jessstan2 · 10/04/2021 16:54

Yes I do face the shower head, I have just one shower which is over the bath. It is adjustable so I can have it low or high and take it down for rinsing different parts of me.

noblegreenk · 10/04/2021 16:54

I do a bit of both.

MangosteenSoda · 10/04/2021 16:58

In films people in the shower always face the shower head and tilt their heads to uncomfortable looking angles.

In real life, surely you face away, just turning a couple of times for wetting and rinsing purposes.

vauxhalldiva · 10/04/2021 16:58

Sit on the floor
faced away from the shower head
Rinse face just before I exit the shower

MangosteenSoda · 10/04/2021 16:59

Ooh. I’ve just remembered a shower cubicle in Spain that had multiple jets/heads to spray different parts of the body. Never seen that before.

TheMostHappy · 10/04/2021 17:00

Oh I wash my face and front facing in to the shower and to shampoo. Then I turn and face out of the shower to wash my back and rinse hair. I didnt realise it was a thing though to be fair. Although why people don't just do it my way I'll never know Grin

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 10/04/2021 17:00

I face away from it. We currently have a shower over a bath and DP faces towards the shower and therefore can't really successfully shower himself as his big feet mean he is too far away the water. Anyway, due to this weirdness he is insisting we put a separate shower in.

Fnib · 10/04/2021 17:02

I turn round quite a lot as I'm washing, but sometimes I'll just stand under it for a few minutes and I do that facing away.

That sounds like a modern steam shower. The Edwardians were the first to install showers I think and many of those had a shower head above and multiple jets of water for the body.
UseOfWeapons · 10/04/2021 17:13

@UhtredRagnarson

Umm I turn around so my whole body gets wet, then I soap up and scrub, then I turn around under the water stream again to rinse off. When I’m washing my hair I obviously face away from the shower head.
Me too. I had no idea there was another way, thanks for educating me!
FireflyRainbow · 10/04/2021 17:38

Face away from the shower head

Oldraver · 10/04/2021 18:06

Both. Away to wash my hair and face it to do underarms

It also helps the sinus to have a blast of hot water on the face

tttigress · 10/04/2021 18:08

Interesting, I never ever considered people may face the shower head

LadyDanburysCane · 10/04/2021 18:10

Both. I face away from the shower to get my hair wet then face into the shower while I shampoo before turning back again to rinse my hair and apply conditioner. Step away slightly, soap and wash body then back under to rinse everything off whilst turning around. So I probably spend 60% facing away and 40% facing towards.....

angelikacpickles · 10/04/2021 18:10

Both surely? Face away to wet hair, turn around to rub in shampoo while facing towards, then face away to rinse hair. Same for conditioner. Face towards to wash face, turn both ways to wash body.

QueenPaw · 10/04/2021 18:14

Face away, soap up, spin around to rinse front
So both

Spodge · 10/04/2021 18:17

Both. Couldn't vote, therefore.

therocinante · 10/04/2021 18:20

Both, but mostly side on - our shower is over the bath and thanks to a stupidly laid out rental bathroom, the showerhead is on the long side of the bath, not at an end. So I usually face towards the taps, which is at a right angle to the actual shower... face in to wash front, face away to wash back and hair.

Dropdeadfred2 · 10/04/2021 18:21

Both always

AnnaSW1 · 10/04/2021 18:22

I only face away if I'm going to wash my hair in the shower. Otherwise I face the shower.

Suzi888 · 10/04/2021 18:25

BothConfused don’t tell me people aren’t washing their bodies properly now? I know we had trouble with hand washing Grin in the past!

1Morewineplease · 10/04/2021 18:28

We have a rainfalls shower and a directional shower.
My face stays away from both.
I don't like my face being rained on/pummelled.
I do my face by the sink with a flannel.

isseys4xmastinselcats · 10/04/2021 18:30

i unhook the shower head to wash my hair leaning over the bath, towel round my hair then hook the shower back and angle it so it misses the towel and my face and face the shower
