A current discussion taking place in my house.

After catching a stream on youtube it was brought up with people incredulous that some people do/dont face the shower head when showering.

I laughed to my friend that i face away like normal people and started WW3 because of course she faces the shower...

What do you do? Is it different depending where you are and where soap etc is stored.. how has this taken up so much of my head space tonight??

AIBU - Face the shower head YANBU- Face away from the shower head

Prepared to be banned from Mumsnet for life.

I detach the shower head and guide it in all the different directions/areas that need washing.

When this is not an option at someone else’s place/shabby hotels or Airbnb’s, I face away most of the time but I turn around often to rinse and get water all around my body.

No. The water totally misses my entire front. 50% of my body stays dry... hmm

Surely it misses most of your body because it hits your back?

It depends on the shower.
Currently face away and use the hand held nozzle for rinsing my front.
In my old house I faced the shower as the heads were fixed to the wall rather than over head so the spray angle was different.

I only use my shower to wash my hair while I'm in the bath, and have balance issues so I kneel in the bath and face forward, but I take the shower hose out of the holder, can't stand having the water poured over me.

I never just have a shower, hate them.

@Bert2e

Away - so I can look out the window while I shower! Front gets wet as the water comes over my shoulders and yes I'm sure many of you will think I'm a total skank but I don't soap my body except bits and pits and it just gets washed with the run off!

Exactly this. Pretty obvious really! Shock

I have no issue with the front not getting wet/rinsed, perhaps it makes a difference on how you've angled the shower head/where you stand.

Depends which part of my body I'm rinsing. I usually face the shower then do a 180 for the back, then turn back. I turn quite often too and enjoy the water more that way.

I turn away from the shower if I'm washing my hair.

So I couldn't vote for either because the answer is both.

I face it when not washing my hair, and angle it slightly downwards, and away when washing it.

I warm up with it on my chest then turn around and put the shower head higher to do my hair then lower it to my back to wash.

So you basically don’t wash your body?

Both. Mainly face the shower but face away to rinse hair.
I like the water on my face. 😬

I face the shower if I’m washing my face but other than that, I face away.

I turn around during the shower but predominantly face away, but it’s a waterfall one so it comes down from above more than from the back IYSWIM

so, away, because I wash my hair, and you can only do that facing away.

Then stick my face under so towards.
Then away while I soap up, becuase you can't breathe with water streaming into your face.

Then I turn round and round getting all of me wet until I am rinsed.

Then I take shower head off the shower to use it, well, on bits that don't see the light Grin. (which is why rain showers are bloody useless)

Then face away and stand under the lovely warm water for as long as I can before having to start the day

Mine is an overhead rain type head in a quadrant cubicle but i do look up at it and face the corner/wall at certain points in the shower, so I can rinse properly.

I do have a hand shower in there too but never use it for washing, it’s only used for rinsing the shower when it’s cleaned

Both obviously.

@MiddleClassProblem

I do both. But I also lower the shower head if I’m not washing my hair to microphone level so I don’t get my hair wet.

Same here

both
I mainly face away from the shower head, but to wash shampoo of my face I turn towards it for the last few seconds.

now I need to know: do you soap your feet?

Report
steppemum · 10/04/2021 16:09

Thinking about it, surely it depends on the height of the shower?
And if you are washing your hair or not?

So, if it is at shoulder level, then you face towards to get enough water (and give up all hope of wahsing your hair)

If it is above your head, you have to face away to get your hair wet. But if you don;t want to wash your hair, you face towards.

You do the same as me 🙂

I too detach the shower head and wet my body and then soap it and finally rinse. If washing my hair I wet it first and shampoo it than wash my body and then rinse hair and body. I wash my face at the sink as I really don't like getting my face wet in the shower. Hence I hate when staying in hotels finding a fixed shower head so I will have a bath instead.

“ do you soap your feet?”

No, I don’t 😱

Report
youmakemydreamscometrue · 10/04/2021 16:12

I get dizzy the amount of turning I do.
Start off facing, turn to wet back, soap front and turn to rinse while soaping back, wash/rinse hair facing away then turn to wash and rinse face.

Non hair washing days I lower the shower head to shoulder height and do the same.
