Repetitive TV about Duke’s Death

Thisisnotreallymyname · 09/04/2021 18:37

At a risk of being sent to the Tower, whilst I think it is sad that Prince Philip has died, am I alone in being amazed at the constant repetitive TV about his life.
It’s just going over snd over same old stuff. And I’d like to watch some normal TV !

@Keyring

PP was mentioned in dispatches in WW2

He helped 6 million plus young people through the DOE award scheme.

To name but two.

Read up on the rest.

I have done and find it fascinating. But that doesn't add up to this coverage imo.

But why do I need telling that on 4 BBC channels and ITV?

I can only watch one channel at a time.

@tobee

If the monarchy is abolished it needs to be done in a proper non knee jerk way. We don't want a worse replacement. However, I'm sure there would be a million different ideas as to what should replace it. Which is one of the reasons people will want to stick with the default setting. Generally people aren't keen on change.
We have an elected head of state, rather than some privileged idiot getting the job due to some ridicious concept of being born into it.

Pretty easy.

blowinahoolie · 09/04/2021 21:44

@JohnLeeCooker

God it's unbearable. I can't even listen to bloody jazz fm without them ramming it down my throat every few minutes. I switched on the tv by mistake earlier and Nick I-think-I'm-fucking-royal-myself Witchell was on blathering away. In the few seconds it took me to turn it off I nearly vomited. He is an absolute cock polisher.

The media in this country, particularly the bbc seem to be behaving like it's the 1970s. I sense that a lot of people just don't care, or they don't care that much.

Where were the royals when child abuse in jersey was being hushed up by the direct representatives of the queen? Disgraceful

Fantastic post🙌
Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 09/04/2021 21:44

Definitely RIP Phil, but its been the same with the radio all afternoon as well. Every single announcer repeating after every second song that he's died today. Don't mind the somber music but for gods sake...the constant announcing?

tobee · 09/04/2021 21:45

Well yes but that is just one opinion @UrAWizHarry. Do we need checks and balances so we don't get a Trump or a Putin or whatever?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 09/04/2021 21:45

It's even all over CNN ffs

Try Al-Jazeera. At lunch time they mentioned he'd kicked the bucket, pointed out his history of racially offending people, then quickly moved on to actual news stories. It was quite refeshing.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 09/04/2021 21:46

they're practicing for when the Queen dies.

BBC are getting so many complaints, they've set up a dedicated link
BBC complain about wall to wall coverage

Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:46

It's even all over CNN ffs

this is one reason why I think the Monarchy will endure - world fascination with it.

UrAWizHarry · 09/04/2021 21:46

You mean, checks and balances like, I dunno, democratic elections and due process so people like Trump can get removed?

As opposed to any old twat getting it just because of who their parents are and being completely outside the law?

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 09/04/2021 21:47

I made a separate complaint as well

Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:47

When people use swear words, I take it as a sign of limited vocabulary

And yes, I know I sound like a maiden aunt, but it is so unnecessary.

An argument can be made without swearing.

NRCS · 09/04/2021 21:47

It's literally on every channel, it's crazy

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 09/04/2021 21:48

It's not an 'either or' question, which is why the 'would you rather have a President like Putin or Trump?' is such an utterly risible justification for the Royals.

There's no need to have a separate HoS at all. None.

mashpot · 09/04/2021 21:49

@MoonCatcher

Even Radio 6 is playing sombre music
Could not believe it! Like elevator music when I tuned in at 5pm. I think it was really unnecessary personally.
tobee · 09/04/2021 21:49

I'm not saying you're wrong @UrAWizHarry and I'm not a monarchist. However, having just had brexit voted for with no one bothering to have a clue what happens next.

Also, what's to stop a Putin type deciding to make himself leader in perpetuity? Would there be anything?

Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:49

Disagree. A separate Head of State avoids too much power vesting in one person.

Studies have indicated that swearing is actually a sign of intellengence, creative thinking and deep knowledge of a particular language.

Sorry (not sorry) if you find it all so gosh darn offensive.

duvetdreaming · 09/04/2021 21:49

He helped 6 million plus young people through the DOE award scheme.

He had his name on the scheme but I think you'll find it was teachers and youth leaders who helped the 6 million plus young people through the scheme.

pudseypie · 09/04/2021 21:49

There was even a banner on the bottom of the CBeebies screen saying something like 'major news broadcast on BBC1' this afternoon. Now there's no way my toddler was going to let me switch over from Teletubbies. I know he was a very prominent figure, but CBeebies, really??

Starbar66 · 09/04/2021 21:50

Agree with so many of you. Entitled arrogant parasites we pay for. My teens are astounded as only a few weeks ago the Royals were mass-criticized re. racism and being out of touch, and there was wild speculation all over SM that PP had made the comments about the baby's skin colour...yet the same people are today fawning all over social media about him. The awful forelock-tugging and hypocrisy. No idea why this needs to be repetitively reported. It's only sad for family and friends. People outside Windsor saying how sad it is that a 99 year old man died? FFS. Drives me nuts. Thank God for other channels.

3CCC · 09/04/2021 21:50

Channel 4 have google box on ... but of normality

Although how much the show will cover today on next weeks show 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:51

I do find swearing offensive when written yes. I do swear of course I do, but rarely write swear words in a public post. I think it undermines an argument.

UrAWizHarry · 09/04/2021 21:51

In the uk the monarch is literally above the law, wheras a Putin style situation is literally impossible.

It looks like it's on until 2pm tomorrow then there is a hiatus for the sport, then who knows
