EVERYTHING is "out of stock"

Literally having one of those days. Talk talk is down in my area so I'm ploughing through mobile data. But literally EVERYTHING I'm trying to order is out of stock and it's driving me mad! I'm trying to find garden furniture, a bin store, a new rug, clothes for my daughter - it goes on and on!!

Just ranting!!!!!

@beginningoftheend

The situation in NI is upsetting to watch unfold. During Brexit referendum the polling showing how few English voters cared about NI was quite shocking, even though I wasn't that surprised.
Also terrible how the EU were going to throw the GFA under the bus over vaccines. Without even mentioning it to Ireland or NI!
Umbivalent · 11/04/2021 08:48

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously

Re Argos, they've always been shit. During Covid I believe they've trialled keeping some of their stores closed and directing customers to collect items from further away, to see if sales drop and of not can permanently close some shops. But even before Covid and Brexit Argos would offer items at a good sale price and then only have one in stock and if it was in Aberdeen, tough luck if you are in Devon! And getting a paddling pool or a garden chair has always been iffy should the UK get 2 days of sunshine in a row! Brexit might be responsible for some things but it's not responsible for crap business management.
Thank you for explaining this! We've got quite a few Argos branches within a 30 min drive, and they never seem to have anything useful in.

More blaming EU for our governments decisions. It’s what Johnson et al do well. The EU didn’t ask for nor want Brexit. That is what has damaged the GFA.
Johnson bare faced lied. “No borders. Any suggestion would be thrown in the bin.” It was raised repeatedly as a concern but the government chose to ignore it for their own self-serving ends.

HarriR · 11/04/2021 09:26

@Dollygirl2008. Yup lack of an edit button annoys me too!

Barney60 · 11/04/2021 11:28

Its not Brexit. Think shops just havnt ordered anything. I went to the garden centre for a shrub ive been after, was told shortage of plants! WTF. I asked why, said garden centres didnt expect to be open so didnt grow/buy in/ ect .

CatCup · 11/04/2021 11:29

If you voted to leave the EU, you can't complain.

beginningoftheend · 11/04/2021 11:30

I think @Umbivalent sums up all that is wrong with UK today - no concern for the people in NI whatsoever, just pointscoring against the EU.

I'm really upset watching what is happening, people's actual lives are being harmed now - a whole week of rioting.

I see Johnson has refused to engage today.

SelkieBeag · 11/04/2021 12:36

Im from Dublin and you'd have to feel sorry for the people of NI. Vast majority of people from the south aren't that invested in a united ireland and as for the uk, they didnt even stop to consider the impact on northern ireland when they allowed people to vote on this issue. No way shoukd it ever have been put to a vote. People in NI spent their whole lives believing they were british.

XingMing · 11/04/2021 19:10

I think it's all point scoring here.... but who is keeping the score?

XingMing · 11/04/2021 19:17

The people in NI are still British in my mind. And I have only been to NI once, briefly. However, their preference was to remain in the EU, and that choice disagreed with the poll that was the 2016 referendum. So the choice is to cast in their lot with the Republic and stay in the EU. The difficulty arises in trying to ride two horses.

Beyondhumanity · 11/04/2021 19:21

@Horehound

Yes we are waiting three months for a dishwasher.

Yay Brexit Hmm

We’ve been waiting since COVID started!

What do you think is causing the violence?
The Unionists who HATE AND LOATHE the Republic
are being forced to link to the hated Catholics
and cut off from London

Have you not read the history of the Troubles

Yes Argos did that round our way, the store in town was shut when other shops were open and I was constantly directed to one in Sainsbury's over 10 miles away, I never bothered after that and didn't buy from Argos
XingMing · 11/04/2021 19:32

@ListeningQuietly, I don't pretend to know or understand what Unionists or Republicans think or want, except that each side wants whatever the other doesn't. After a lifetime of reports of sectarian violence from both camps, very personally speaking, I am of the opinion that religion causes more problems than it solves and I wish Ireland was Buddhist.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 11/04/2021 19:35

Loving Bob I have also stopped shopping in Argos. They don't sell anything unique or that I want so badly that I'm willing to drive miles out of my way to get it.
Argos used to be my default but now I don't even bother looking on the app.

jasjas1973 · 12/04/2021 08:52

I am sure leaving the EU will cost; my objection is not towards Europe, or its member states. I am all for membership of EFTA/EEA, just not a fan of the bloated bureacracy of the Commission. None of which makes me ignorant or ridiculous... it means our opinions differ

Completely agree, unfortunately the Tories decided they knew which version of Brexit the UK public wanted, so we went for the hardest of all deals.
EFTA would have been so much more productive.

NI isn't in Ireland, so Ireland turning Buddhist wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference.
It never had fuck all to do with religion anyway.

It has naff all to do with Brexit though

Well, there were no threads on here about shortages last year, we ve been in this Pandemic for over 12 months.

But of course last year we were (in reality) still in the EU and according to official figures, Januaries EU/UK trade is down 40%, imports down by 30% (this is before Suez)
We all bought that 30% but now its not there to buy.... hence shortages.... and UK companies selling less into EU means job losses here, uk global trade increased by 1.8%.

So though brexitiers like to convince themselves their vote hasn't fucked up international trade, it has, ONS figures prove this beyond doubt.

Hobbesmanc · 12/04/2021 09:08

We're having significant work done on the house. Delayed for over a year. All very exciting. But there is really limited availability on loads of stuff. Patio slabs, outdoor lighting, planters. And wallpapers! Every time we agree on one, its out of stock. 2 month lead in for the coffee table I liked.

Still first world problem and all that

Proudboomer · 12/04/2021 09:15

I have been looking at garden furniture all weekend. There is plenty available but it is all too expensive for my pocket or not what I am looking for.
I am waiting to see if Aldi gets more stock of their wooden sofa/daybed but at £230 it has not surprisingly sold out very quickly.
There pretend rattan stuff isn’t online yet so no doubt that is stuck in transit somewhere.

And yet there are plenty of people saying Argos has been like this since prior to Brexit and Covid.

Obviously trade is down, but can you point to the bit in the ONS figures where they say this is due to Brexit "beyond doubt" please?

elsaesmeralda · 12/04/2021 09:42

There is garden furniture available but it's ridiculously expensive ! I checked the range and they have some reasonably priced sets but none in stock til June
