Literally having one of those days. Talk talk is down in my area so I'm ploughing through mobile data. But literally EVERYTHING I'm trying to order is out of stock and it's driving me mad! I'm trying to find garden furniture, a bin store, a new rug, clothes for my daughter - it goes on and on!!

Just ranting!!!!!

Lol, everything is because of Brexit. Nothing to do with the pandemic, or the shortage of shipping containers in Asia, or the increase in online shopping coming from China creating a backlog in British ports. No, it's all just Brexit

Christ on a bike. Are you not reading the thread. It’s a combination of the pandemic and Brexit. Most people are agreeing with this. Yes the pandemic is most of the problem but Brexit isn’t helping.
Meg2021 · 10/04/2021 20:31

Not only is everything out of stock, prices are sky high, even old second hand hinges are just as expensive as they were when new!

Anyone notice the lack of fruits to buy too? Used to be able to get a few different fruits from supermarkets, now it’s just basic strawberry, oranges, banana, apples!

Brexit is destroyed everything

XingMing · 10/04/2021 20:34

MN has a very active Remain faction. Anything negative related to international trade, they jump in to claim it is because of Brexit. Just watch across a couple of threads. I am damned, because I am not sold on EU membership... I love Europe... just less enamoured of the politicians and bureaucrats that are riding the Brussels gravy train.

XingMing · 10/04/2021 20:40

Prices for fruit and veg are always at their highest in march-April-May. It's the end of one season's harvest and refrigeration, and before the beginning of the next crop. It's called the hungry season with good evidence. What you are able to buy now are fruits and veg that store decently. They were harvested months ago, and have passed their best.

XingMing · 10/04/2021 20:46

Very soon, there will be reasonably priced new potatoes, asparagus, the the first English strawberries and salad leaves.... then everything will arrive.

mustlovegin · 10/04/2021 20:59

A few people 'agreeing' on a thread echochamber doesn't make it true, you know...

Brexit is destroyed everything

Still so many seem to be able to afford luxuries like egg chairs, go figure Hmm

Vole3 · 10/04/2021 21:25

B&M

smilingontheinside · 10/04/2021 21:26

There are egg chairs in my locak garden centre! A lot of shortages are due to the pandemic and poet hold ups once stuff gets here. I work for a company that imports stuff and the delays have been awful then everything comes at once container after container arriving daily. As some have posted because of lockdown folks have been ordering online like crazy, our company has had HUUUGE increase on online and have had their best year ever despite/due to covid😕

Umbivalent · 10/04/2021 21:27

and poet hold ups once stuff gets here

Wait, now it's the poets causing delays?! Grin

Umbivalent · 10/04/2021 21:28

Bloody Brexity poets!!

AdoraBell · 10/04/2021 21:57

We waited 11 months for a dishwasher because DH was determined to use a local shop. They couldn’t get stock for love nor money. That was due to Covid.

Also, before I was made redundant due to lockdown the business I worked for couldn’t get stock from places like India/China due to Covid.

smilingontheinside · 10/04/2021 22:39

I hate autocorrect at least it wasn't rude😂

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2021 22:40

@Ickle37

I live in the EU and there is nothing here either. No beds, no wooden garden furniture. It's nothing to do with Brexit. Its the pandemic and i believe that the US has nabbed a lot of Scandinavian wood ( as they fell out with Canada on some wood deal), so stocks are really low. Also, nothing that is sold in UK shops is available here at the best of times...
Theres a Scandinavian wood shortage in its second year.

Its causing problems with sheds apparently.

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

If it’s down to Brexit, why are the supermarkets still full of Dutch and Spanish fruit and salad stuff, Danish bacon and butter, French cheese, etc.?
The uk have yet to introduce full customs checks on incoming goods. The EU put the in straight away but we delayed.

We decided to phase them in from 1st April. Which would mean shortages would only start to become noticable around now.

However the government were really concerned about covid delays meaning that there would be empty shelves and heightened haulage demand just as the shops reopened next week. So they've tried to push back these checks.

This is likely to trigger trade disputes in the coming months.

When they do decide to impose these checks its likely to cause delays / problems with incoming consignments. Particularly for short life food products.

So this particular Brexit shit is yet to hit the fan...

supperlover · 10/04/2021 22:53

You think it's bad in GB, in N.ireland not only have we got problems with shortages and companies suspending deliveries but Brexit threatening the fragile peace process.

But that can’t be Brexit! It’s all sunlight uplands and wonderful. You just need to get behind it. You can’t blame it for everything you know. Hmm
Popcornbetty · 10/04/2021 22:56

I love geometric but cant get an outdoor one in my area!

Usernamerequired · 10/04/2021 23:47

Try catalogues like Littlewoods, Freemans etc. Simply be do a section for home and garden, got some lovely items there. Also an Amazon and Ebay addict

Agree, its a nightmare over here at times. Even the fact big chain supermarkets are stocking local foodstore items instead of their own brand says a lot. Bloody Brext
beginningoftheend · 11/04/2021 06:18

The situation in NI is upsetting to watch unfold. During Brexit referendum the polling showing how few English voters cared about NI was quite shocking, even though I wasn't that surprised.

It’s beyond sad. Beyond negligent. A conscious decision to undermine the GFA. Lies about the border. Unforgivable.
MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 11/04/2021 08:42

Re Argos, they've always been shit. During Covid I believe they've trialled keeping some of their stores closed and directing customers to collect items from further away, to see if sales drop and of not can permanently close some shops.
But even before Covid and Brexit Argos would offer items at a good sale price and then only have one in stock and if it was in Aberdeen, tough luck if you are in Devon! And getting a paddling pool or a garden chair has always been iffy should the UK get 2 days of sunshine in a row!
Brexit might be responsible for some things but it's not responsible for crap business management.
