Literally having one of those days. Talk talk is down in my area so I'm ploughing through mobile data. But literally EVERYTHING I'm trying to order is out of stock and it's driving me mad! I'm trying to find garden furniture, a bin store, a new rug, clothes for my daughter - it goes on and on!!

Just ranting!!!!!

@rosie39forever

You don't need stuff when you've got all that sovereignty.
🤣🤣🤣
justasking111 · 10/04/2021 13:03

Cheap things are gone for a time, the cost of transport, availability has seen to that. Less landfill moving forward, that has to be a plus to this disposable society. OH reseals, varnishes our wood furniture annually for the garden, our children, however, skip and replace.

Proudboomer · 10/04/2021 13:37

This morning Wilkos and Morrison’s had loads of garden recliners both around £30 each . Metal frames with big cushions.

Now the shortage is related to silicone and it is impacting on how quickly laptops can be manufactured.
Hopefully you mean silicon

and the time lag on wafer fabs is about two years

Watch out for the incoming French Wine shortage...

LimitIsUp · 10/04/2021 15:46

I've only been buying British and new world wine recently anyway (since I have fallen out of love with Europe, especially Macron, over the vaccine debacle)

Yes saw that they have had ferocious frosts which have decimated the blossom, so bugger all grapes this year. It happens periodically they will live to see another year.
RedToothBrush · 10/04/2021 16:12

And the 2021 Bog Roll shortage. I shit you not (pun intended)

@MarinPrime

Just been listening to R4 program "Global Supply Chains". There was a discussion about the current shortage of consumer products.

They're saying it's due to a combination of increased consumer demand for stuff (pandemic, not spending money on holidays, going out etc) and the aftermath of the Suez Canal blockage.

Shortages likely to get worse over the next 8 weeks due the effects of the hold-up on essential components for manufacturing.

Brexit wasn't mentioned at all.

That will be because it is BBC Radio 4 - and the BBC is now overseen by a tory croney. They rarely share the Brexit problems or pandemic failings or corruption and lies with the British public. Very little coverage to Matt Hancock acting unlawfully over procurement, for example.

@Luckyelephant1

I just want an outdoor egg chair but there are NONE
My local ex catalogue shop had 2 outside when I drove by the other day. £149 which I thought was v expensive, most things there are a bargain. I guess they know they are rare!!

The two people having the discussion were Claire Jones, a Financial Times journalist living in Frankfurt and David Aaronovitch who has written stuff that indicates he's very much a Remainer.

Unlikely they would choose to lie about the reason for the shortages if Brexit really had caused them.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2021 16:59

Wtf is the fab for a fucking egg chair all about?

In a couple of years time, you won't be able to move for people getting rid of the damn things.

GellerYeller · 10/04/2021 17:13

Struggled to get kitchen appliances recently and was told goods were stuck in port due to covid lockdowns delaying production then Brexit holding them up at ports! Small appliances like toasters etc we really struggled with lack of choice. All pre Suez. Also very noticeable that even places like John Lewis had negligible stock. Husband tried to get a laptop and Currys told him basically forget it for months.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 10/04/2021 17:15

Maririme, careful we wouldn’t want the truth to get in the way of a good opportunity to have a dig at the government or brexit would we?

godmum56 · 10/04/2021 17:23

if everything is out of stock, how come I am managing to spend so much money?

Rainbowsparkle · 10/04/2021 17:25

The Aldi egg chair went on sale at 8am last Sunday. It was sold out by 0803

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 10/04/2021 17:30
@Mushypeasandchipstogo I'm curious - why do you need penguin bollards?
is it a parking issue with unruly penguins - is there a diagram?
We are anticipating trouble with building works opposite our house and lorries reversing into our driveway as it is only a single track road. Watch this space.......

Lincslady53 · 10/04/2021 17:33

Many businesses rely on just in time deliveries and don't keep lots of back up stock. The blockage in the Suez Canal will have caused a lot of the out of stocks. Plus the retailers have a difficult job trying to forecast demand. With foreign holidays being out for most of us, garden furniture, outdoor toys will all be in higher demand. We are looking to upgrade our garden furniture, but if we can't get it, our old stuff will do.

Yep and one enterprising e bayer has four for sale. she will just redirect the parcel if possible and dodge postage too.
Greengate66 · 10/04/2021 17:42

I like the coloured square one that Debenhams did, not sure if still available. Culture Vulture do some nice rugs.

Seymour5 · 10/04/2021 17:45

I haven't read every post, so apologies if I'm stating the obvious. Whilst Brexit, and Covid, and the stuck ship and all the others it held up are having an effect, perhaps people who have saved money by working from home, not going on holiday, not eating out etc., are simply buying far more?

Cheap garden lights, two weeks ago local B&M and Home Bargains had loads. I was lucky to find one set that I wanted a few days later. Lady in the shop said sales are sky high!

Fluffmum · 10/04/2021 17:46

Every cheap washing machine is out of stock. Just had to spend another 300 to buy one Confused

Tumble dryers are hard to get too. Friends packed up with three small children, she had to wait five weeks for one.
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/04/2021 17:50

If it’s down to Brexit, why are the supermarkets still full of Dutch and Spanish fruit and salad stuff, Danish bacon and butter, French cheese, etc.?

ListeningQuietly · 10/04/2021 17:51

It takes 15 days for a container ship to get from the Suez canal to the UK.
The Ever Given got stuck on 23rd March
so the earliest it could have arrived in the UK was April 7th
then unloading
then customs clearance
then onward delivery
then unpacking containers
then delivery to retailers

so there is absolutely NO WAY that the ship has had any impact on what is in the shops in the UK at the moment
