To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

Honestly some of the threads on here today 😂

Sirzy · 08/04/2021 17:35

Is it just me who is now reading just in the hope we get to hear the unusual name?

Itlod1982 · 08/04/2021 17:36

Why is your unborn baby'a name more important than her puppy's. She's already named the puppy and you're expecting her to change it?! Why would she?

Different if you had your baby first, or if you had told her the name before she named the puppy x

Arrowheart · 08/04/2021 17:36

This OP is the most unreasonable OP I've read and I've read a lot. I know new parents to be can be a bit precious but you, OP, take the biscuit.

@JustYourAverageSue Go for it. I think it is brilliant. He is also miffed that we didn't call him Seth but as our surname begins with an S I couldn't use it incase child had a lisp which would have been a most unfortunate situation for him.

We had acquaintances who names their son aelthstan. Tell the relatives that if it is a girl, you are going to call her Werburg as you are partial to Chester and geese.

AWamBamBoom · 08/04/2021 17:40

I love the name Nancy

Maireas · 08/04/2021 17:41

Oooh, please let it be Jenesis! The sibling could be Eggsodus!

TidyDancer · 08/04/2021 17:41

I think you're going to look back on this and be really embarrassed about your reaction OP. It's probably done you a favour to have your arse handed to you here and not in real life.

KirstenBlest · 08/04/2021 17:42

or Rev'leyshon

swones · 08/04/2021 17:44

Pippin 🤣🤣🤣

Brainwashed · 08/04/2021 17:45

I had a cat called Nancy once

Twizbe · 08/04/2021 17:46

@Leprechaunsundays

It’s not Luna!

My husband thinks we should change it now and said he thought it was a bit too unusual anyway! Which is another surprise to me as well as he told me he liked it! So maybe this is for the best. I will try to see that as a positive!

I do know that this isn’t the most important thing when it comes to babies. But I do think names are important to get right.

Picking names are hard.

I didn't know the sex of my babies before birth either. Both times we'd settled on a boys name but had 2 or 3 top girls names.

DC1 was a boy so easy, DC2 was a girl and DID NOT suit our top girls name.

Sometimes you have to meet baby first to just know what is right for them. Then it doesn't matter if there are lots with the same name because the name is right for them. FWIW both my boy names are standard ones and I assumed my son would be in a class with another one at some point. So far it hasn't happened though.

sst1234 · 08/04/2021 17:46

The world has officially gone mad. OP proves it, taking the entitled attitude to a whole new level.

londonrach · 08/04/2021 17:48

Its honestly not important..use the name or don't. Its a name..no one owns it.

Maireas · 08/04/2021 17:48

or Rev'leyshon
Brilliant. Or Ekkleesiastees. Levvy-Tikkus
sst1234 · 08/04/2021 17:49

OP are you sure you are old enough to have children. Your attitude is that of a 5 year old stamping her feet going ‘I want this’

MysteriousMonkey · 08/04/2021 17:49

It's an annoying coincidence, my sister adopted a dog with one of the names I was considering for my baby. I didn't use it after that but still I think awww thats such a lovely name every time I hear it. It is what it is though. I'd still use it if I was you. I have a child with the same name as a popular vacuum cleaner and I always tell him I named him after it. He does not find me funny but I do and that's what matters really Grin

somuchlaundrytowash · 08/04/2021 17:49

Is it something like Juno or coco? Popular people and dog names around my area.
Also, you might have a boy. So the girls name will be irrelevant anyway.

steppemum · 08/04/2021 17:49

Amazed that Nancy is so far down the list. I thought it was really trendy bloody awful name though

It was much easier to name my kids than my dog.
Kids - 2 of us, similar taste. Easy.
dog - 5 of us, all very different tastes, and bloody dh said no name ending in a y. So that ruled out most doggy names.

So, after weeks of stress, we named him. and no I woudn't change it for you. My dd's teacher went off on early maternity leave the week after we named him. And called her son the same name!

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/04/2021 17:50

Had a hamster called Luna, also
Harry Houdini.

Mia184 · 08/04/2021 17:51

I feel like now she’s picked it for her dog and even made an Instagram account for the dog, it might become more popular now because other people will have heard of it.

OP, unless your friend is one of the Kardashians, I very much doubt that the name will become more popular because your friend set up an Instagram account for her dog. There are a ton of Instagram accounts for dogs and many of them have unusual names.
