Symptomatic husband too 'busy' to get a test?!

lifejusthappenss · 06/04/2021 03:33

Dh had symptoms come on yesterday, new continuous cough and a fever. He's kept me up all night so far coughing so badly and woke up the baby

I work in a hospital and am well aware as he has symptoms I should self isolate until he has a test. Issue is dh is ridiculous and insists he hasn't got time to self isolate or miss work, he's travelling for conferences this week and has lots to do Hmm surely if you're travelling for work it's more important than ever to get a test and not become a super spreader across the UK!! I know he's worried the results won't come back in time but it's the right thing to do

Anyway we've just had an argument over it at 3am!! He said he was going to sleep downstairs so I can get a good sleep for work and I said I won't be going to work in the hospital with you like this until you've you've been tested and he scoffed that there's no chance. So what do I do if he refuses? Besides me thinking he's massively unreasonable putting other people at risk because he's too 'important' I also feel he's putting me in a difficult position at work? I'm not going into a hospital if someone I live with shows symptoms but will have to be off the full 10 days if he doesn't test?

Hope you get the results soon op
Glad he saw sense

TimeQuest01 · 06/04/2021 19:09

@lifejusthappenss, hope you’re not too unwell.

As an NHS worker, have you had any doses of the vaccine?

CirqueDeMorgue · 06/04/2021 19:14

@HaveringWavering

Conferences? Who is running in-person conferences at the moment? You said his workplace seem to have ignored “work from home” but conferences usually involve people from lots of different companies. Are you sure he’s not having an affair?
😂😂😂
CirqueDeMorgue · 06/04/2021 19:17

He's probably right about it just being a cold, everyone i know seems to have a cold atm. Agree with pp though, why should anyone around him have to catch it? Plus, if he's coughing a lot, he'll make everyone anxious.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 06/04/2021 19:24

@lifejusthappenss - oh, dear, I do hope it isn't coronavirus and that you feel better soon. Flowers

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 06/04/2021 19:26

Hope you are both in the clear. and you feel better soon. Ridiculous that you've had to argue him into it. He's a giant baby!

itsgettingwierd · 06/04/2021 19:30

Agree about even if it's a cold we should be off work currently.

Me and ds has a support bubble. We see them weekly.

Beginning in half term ds woke with cold the day we should meet. I let friend know. Purely because it have her the chance to rearrange and decide for herself.

I also know her eldest gets a cough with a cold so potentially we were subjecting them to not only a cold but isolation and tests for just a cold because they would have had to follow the cough guidelines.

YukoandHiro · 06/04/2021 19:33

Good luck, hope you've both just got a cold. But also really hoping he's apologised to you - especially if you get a covid positive result

farnworth · 06/04/2021 20:03

Not wanting to excuse your husband’s attitude........
He could have “covid brain” when you can really really not think straight.

If this is so, it’s very good he has gone for a test!!

namechangerforthisconfessionn · 06/04/2021 22:51

Hope you don't feel too rubbish OP Thanks

CallmeHendricks · 07/04/2021 07:42

I've felt really rubbish the last couple of days - flu-ey, achey, shivery and a sore throat.
I have some lateral flow tests here from work and took one last night. Negative.
I suppose we forget that there are "normal" bugs circulating still.
I hope you both feel better soon.

WhereDidYouGetThatHat · 07/04/2021 07:53

CallmeHendricks you can't rely on lft if you have symptoms. It's a blunt instrument to pick up SOME infections which would otherwise be missed due to being asymptomatic. If you have symptoms of covid (which you do) you need to book a proper test and your household needs to isolate until you get a result. I hope you feel better soon. But please get tested.

RampantIvy · 07/04/2021 07:56

Our local GP practice posted on Facebook the other day to tell people NOT to use a lateral flow test if they had symptoms, but to go and get a proper test.

My workplace has us take twice weekly lateral flow tests and three members of staff tested negative on the lateral flow but positive on the PCR so I wouldn't discount it just yet.
Chimchar · 07/04/2021 07:59

Glad he agreed to get tested op. Hope you're both feeling better soon. BrewCake

rainbowstardrops · 07/04/2021 08:03

Glad he reluctantly agreed to be tested and hope you feel better soon

drspouse · 07/04/2021 08:21

Fingers crossed for your results. I have an office to myself and have been told I can't use it, I can't believe some companies are behaving like this!

trevorandsimon · 07/04/2021 08:27

You can order rapid flow tests online which come next dayor pick them up for free at local centres. You test yourself and you get the result in 30 mins.

Yes, but those are not v accurate and intended to catch asymptomatic cases. As the OP’s family have symptoms they needed PCR tests - which they’ve done.

Worth having the LFT tests in hand for the future, though. I’m thinking about getting some as I have a permanent slight cough that would make it harder to spot a ‘new’ one.

greenlynx · 07/04/2021 09:56

Hope you and baby are ok

YukoandHiro · 07/04/2021 17:42

How did this turn out OP? Did he have covid?

Alfiemoon1 · 07/04/2021 19:06

Have you got your results yet ok

BadMudda · 08/04/2021 09:56

Any update op?

Squiz81 · 08/04/2021 15:08

@lifejusthappenss
How did it go?

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 08/04/2021 20:54

Why don't you have a test. After all, there is a chance you are an asymptomatic carrier and you gave it to him.
