It's doing my head - and my scrolling finger - in.

OP posts:
LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 05/04/2021 19:14

Totally agree. Really irritates me and adds nothing of interest to the thread.

TBF posters can post three paragraphs and still add nothing of interest. Grin

@insancerre

What is with people on the internet making rules for other people?

@Fembot123

Well thanks to *@whenthebellsring* *@EarringsandLipstick and @Sparklingbrook* for helping me. I’ll just write ‘Something, something, something, not really!’ Instead of striking through 😂
😂 If you are using the app, Fembot, you can just select the T button (between the emoji button & the attachment (paper clip) button). Might be easier?

I feel shamed by this thread, I was just going to say agreed/this on a post I liked on another thread and couldn’t do it without thinking of @CateTown’s disapproval

ChubbyMsSunshine · 05/04/2021 19:18

@CateTown

It adds nothing to the conversation to just type This.
Yes it does! It reiterates what is usually one side of an argument - it's ALWAYS used on AIBU posts. More posts showing support for YABU / YANBU to help cast the vote, so to speak.

Also, as someone else said upthread, I use it when someone has more eloquently explained a point that I agree with.

ChubbyMsSunshine · 05/04/2021 19:21

@LadyCatStark

They would if only MN would introduce a like button! Sometimes a poster has said exactly what you want to say but it would be silly to type out the same thing again in your own words.
This. GrinGrinGrin

But seriously, please can we have a like button MN? Please? Not that the physical attributes should have any bearing on the efficacy of the request, but pretty please?

daisychain01 · 05/04/2021 19:22

@CateTown

You don't need to signal your agreement with a pp if you have nothing to add to the conversation. You can just nod sagely.
Nods sagely.

Just do it. Use MN how you like everyone else does!

Why don't you want a "like" button?
Giantrooster · 05/04/2021 19:31

Would you all please just stuff your buttons. As I've said on countless button threads, like buttons ruin diversity in replies, only the most popular will feature (and they're not alway the sane ones). 😠

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 19:36

@DrSbaitso I should C&P and have this reply available at all times. It's MN Talk so a Like button would mean there would be an OP then everyone would use the Like button (or the Dislike which I think would be only fair to introduce) and that would be that. No talking or discussion necessary. Confused
The fact it hasn't got one and it's not the same as every other site is why I like it.
Using the vote function for polls is bad enough.

I don't think so. People who think they've still got something to add will say it, people who just want to show they agree and have no further comment will use the button. If anything, it'll encourage diversity because people won't feel the need to repeat posts just to show their agreement.

It doesn't have to be like Reddit where it affects post visibility. Just gives an idea of the lie of the land without loads of repeats.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 19:41

People who think they've still got something to add will say it

I don't think that will be the case. It will be tumbleweed. Imagine getting say 50 Likes or Dislikes and not knowing why. I think a lot of people wouldn't even bother posting.

I can't see it ever being tumbleweed on here! So many users. So many people with things to say!
MiddayMadDog · 05/04/2021 19:45

NOOOOO! MN do not introduce a bloody 'like' button. Just no!

I love the quote function since they introduced it. Tis brilliant.

I reckon you just never get quoted OP and its given you the rage! Grin

And some people can type 7 paragraphs and add nothing to the conversation either 🤷🏻‍♀️
littlepattilou · 05/04/2021 19:53

Oh HELL no to a 'like' button.

As I said on a previous thread a few days ago, it creates cliques, and divisions, and bullying, and ganging-up. I have seen it happen many times on other forums. And if two people are arguing, the one with the most LIKES on their posts feels all smug and special and assumes they're right.

A LIKE button is a horrible idea.

Definitely agree an edit function would be a good idea though. Even if it was only 'open for editing' for say, one minute, to enable you to correct typos.
