Is this weird or am I a slattern

I think it totally fine to wash tee towels in with clothes washing .
My partner thinks they should be washed separately on a hot wash.
He thinks it just not right to have tee towels and underwear washed together as its unhygienic.
My clothes washing is on a 40 degrees wash.
Tell me Im not mad .
Happy Easter everyone.

@Cokie3 in case nobody answered, fabric softener reduces the absorbency of things like period pants and cloth nappies. You’ll be more likely to get leaks if you use it.

@HappyAsASandboy We do the same, both nappies and tea towels are sparkling

Gobshite2000 · 04/04/2021 19:44
@itsgettingwierd Why no fabric softener with the period pants? Does it ruin the material? Genuine question. I'm thinking of getting a pair or 2. I'm a light bleeder and only go for around 2 and a half days, and it seems a better investment than pads and tampons (don't like the idea of moon cups).
Not read the full thread so apologies if this has been answered already but yes fabric softener ruins the fabrics

Gobshite2000 · 04/04/2021 19:50

I am another that just bungs everything in together. I separate dark and light but that's it

kereh · 04/04/2021 19:57
@kereh I thought you were making a funny post when you pretended to not know the difference between dish towels and dish wipes, and hand towels. Did you not have any one to explain to you how to adult?
I don't know what a dish wipe is no, however I know an arse wipe when I see one.

WalkinginMemphis2 · 04/04/2021 20:01

Sorry I agree with your partner but I don't think you're a slattern I just think I'm weird about washing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Chunkymenrock · 04/04/2021 20:07

I do all the whites together, including tea towels, on 40 with Dettol laundry disinfectant. Then hang in sunshine or over boiler. Teatowels receive a hot steam iron so they fit nicely in the drawer. All fine.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 04/04/2021 20:32

I wash the tea towels in with the bath towels. Only reason they dont go in with everything else is I like fabric conditioner on clothes, and you don't want that on your towels as it stops them absorbing.

Cokie3 · 05/04/2021 05:58

@GreyhoundG1rl Pretty rude and ignorant yourself considering they are not called 'J Cloths' or M or N or P Cloths. Cloths are made from cotton.
Not gauze. These are called Chux Wipes. Or just ordinary brand name Wipes.

So do I..... Must be my upbringing and taking Home Ec....

Nope, never heard of chux wipes either
They do look very much like J cloths
I'm sure cloths can be made from many types of material not limited to cotton
Maybe you are the ignorant one

midnightstar66 · 05/04/2021 08:26

Honestly never in my 41 years heard of a dish wipe. A wipe to me is something disposable like a baby wipe or a surface wipe. The thing pictured is definitely just a cloth 😆

Pigtailsandall · 05/04/2021 08:47

@BLTLover I've heard that too, and next towel wash I'm putting them in without detergent. They do always retain little bit of detergent no matter how efficient the rinse cycle.

I only have 7 kitchen towels so if I washed them separately it wouldn't be very energy-efficient at all!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/04/2021 08:50

@Cokie3 - as far as I know, the disposable wipes you pictured in your earlier post, can be called J-cloths. That is what I have always known them as. I suspect that, at some point in the past, there was a brand called J-cloths, and now all similar looking, disposable cloths are known as J-cloths.

thatonehasalittlecar · 05/04/2021 09:14

@Cokie3 I guess you’re not from the UK? Slattern (and slut) are fairly normal, if old fashioned words. Our language is beautiful and vast; there is no pride to be taken in reducing it. If you come across words you don’t understand, why not embrace them and grow, rather than sneer at some perceived slight?

As a side note, I am genuinely appalled at most people’s washing habits. No wonder the rivers are dying and the planet is fucked if everyone is boiling their clothes after one wash and slathering everything in the slippery chemicals they sell as ‘fabric conditioner’.

Our immune systems are designed to be challenged and trained - there’s plenty of information on the importance of not popping antibiotics like smarties and not using antibac everything.

Spidey66 · 05/04/2021 10:16

@Cokie3 I'd call that roll J-cloths. Strictly speaking I don't think they are, as I don't remember them coming in a roll, but it looks like an own brand version of them. So a bit like I might refer to the vacuum cleaner as the Hoover, or washing up liquid as Fairy Liquid, or a tablet as an iPad, or wheat biscuits as weetabix. It's fairly common for people to name an object after the most common brand even when they're a generic copy.

VerityWibbleWobble · 05/04/2021 10:23

I have Jcloths in my kitchen drawer.

Spidey66 · 05/04/2021 10:24

Sorry that was the same as STDG a few posts earlier. J cloth was definitely a brand of cloths.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 05/04/2021 10:30

@fussychica

Have a dishwasher so not used much. White so go in with bedding on 50 degrees but was reading a fascinating article about laundryShockGrin which says everything should be washed on a short cycle at 30 with minimal powder and laundry bleach, no fabric conditioner to extend the life of your clothes and even towels. Contradicting lots of advice I'd previously read.Confused
Was this the 'laundry expert' in the Times on Saturday? I thought it was interesting, and have ordered some laundry bags for washing jumpers etc. in. I'm surprised how many people on here seem to routinely use fabric conditioner, as they mention not using it on towels, as I don't really bother with it at all.
dementedpixie · 05/04/2021 10:31

You can buy them on a roll too

Might be good for your clothes but not good for your machine. You would need to run regular hot washes to help keep the machine clean.

Plus short cycles use less water and take less clothing so your clothes won't be as clean

Gemma2019 · 05/04/2021 10:41

God no, I save up all my tea towels, cleaning cloths and kitchen cloths and do them all together on a hot wash when I get a full load. Mainly because the cloths have cleaning fluid on them and I don't think 40 gets them properly clean but also because you need to give your washing machine a really hot wash every so often to clean out all the pipes and keep it running properly, and I often forget to do this.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/04/2021 10:41

This would never have crossed my mind! I just chuck everything in!

SpnBaby1967 · 05/04/2021 10:43

I tend to wash mine and DHs clothes in a quick, 1 hour 40 degree wash as frankly we're just not that dirty.

Kids dark clothes get the same treatment, but their colours and whites go on a 3hr anti stain, super duper wash because they're messy buggers.

Still shove underwear, tea towels, the occasional dish cloth, and towels in with them though
