I think it totally fine to wash tee towels in with clothes washing .
My partner thinks they should be washed separately on a hot wash.
He thinks it just not right to have tee towels and underwear washed together as its unhygienic.
My clothes washing is on a 40 degrees wash.
Tell me Im not mad .
Happy Easter everyone.

@nokidshere

Good lord some of you must be constantly doing laundry.

I separate into light/darks and have washed lights on 40° darks on 30° for over 40yrs. The only thing that gets washed separately on 90° is the bedding off my own bed.

We are a very healthy household so it doesn't seem to have caused any problems.

I am not constantly doing laundry. Bedding washed once a week. Our kingsize duvet, sheet and 2 pillowcases is almost a full load so no need to add any other items.

Towels I change every 3 days but wait until I have a full load before I wash them. Usually once a week.

Dark clothes one wash a week, whites I wait until I have at least half to three quarters load so usually once every 2 weeks.

Dog bed covers every 2 weeks.

@CandyLeBonBon haha, no, autocorrect Wink

@kereh I thought you were making a funny post when you pretended to not know the difference between dish towels and dish wipes, and hand towels. Did you not have any one to explain to you how to adult?

dementedpixie · 04/04/2021 18:07

What's a dish wipe? Never heard of that
I know dish/tea towels and hand towels

EmmaGrundyForPM · 04/04/2021 18:10

I must be a slattern as well. I chuck t towels in with whatever is being washed.

So a cloth then?

dementedpixie · 04/04/2021 18:49

Have never called it a dish wipe
Dish cloth maybe
I use a sponge
And a microfibre cloth for wiping up water round the sink

Cherrysoup · 04/04/2021 18:56

I must be a slattern too! Everything, including dog towels in a separate wash bag (unless very muddy) goes in one wash.

I did cringe at a mate who said he put the cloth used to wipe the toilet in the same wash at 40 degrees with other cleaning cloths that would have been used on kitchen surfaces. Apparently his girlfriend was whinging! He’s horsey and we are renowned for not being too concerned about hygiene-I’m happy to drink from the hose and pick up poo with bare hands then not rush to wash.

MrsClatterbuck · 04/04/2021 18:59

I wash tea towels and towels separately on a 60° wash as that's what I have read is needed to kill bacteria. Underwear which I don't want to wash at 60° gets washed at 50° or 40° with Napisan.

Though if you wash them at 40° and then iron them that will sanitise them. I don't iron hence washing at 60° also my 60° wash has a faster spin which makes drying easier. I also don't use fabric conditioner on towels as it is supposed to make them less absorbent which I think is on some of the labels

Sounds totally normal to me.
fussychica · 04/04/2021 19:06

Have a dishwasher so not used much. White so go in with bedding on 50 degrees but was reading a fascinating article about laundryShockGrin which says everything should be washed on a short cycle at 30 with minimal powder and laundry bleach, no fabric conditioner to extend the life of your clothes and even towels. Contradicting lots of advice I'd previously read.Confused

HappyAsASandboy · 04/04/2021 19:06

Ha ha ha - I wash mine with my cloth nappies! They all go in together for a "pre wash" cycle at 60 degrees with half powder to get the worst off, and then they go through a 40 degree wash to get the properly clean.

I am happy to bet that my tea towels are cleaner than most, despite being washed with dirty nappies Grin

QuestionableMouse · 04/04/2021 19:10

Mine go on a 60° wash because iirc that's what's recommended. I also don't like pants and tea towels in together (I know they all get clean, but it bothers me, probably because I had a rubbish washer for a while).

GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 19:11

The word “slattern” is very much understood by the world at large, Cokie. Shakespearean my arse 😂
The fact that you had to look it up in the dictionary says nothing about anyone else, just you.

EL8888 · 04/04/2021 19:11

If he wants then done like that, then he can do it! It sounds like overkill to me

@SpnBaby1967 you can’t be too careful!!

QuestionableMouse · 04/04/2021 19:12

@Cokie3 those are J cloths. 😂😂

SoupDragon · 04/04/2021 19:14

I've never heard of a "dish wipe" either. Must be regional I guess.

GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 19:15

How rude, from the woman who doesn’t know what a J Cloth is.

steff13 · 04/04/2021 19:16

I wash all my towels separately from other clothes because towels aren't supposed to have fabric softener. But I use it on everything else, so I keep them separate.

Roominmyhouse · 04/04/2021 19:18

My tea towels and dish cloths just veg sling into the machine when they need changing and washed with whatever load is going in next. Sometimes that’s clothes at 40, sometimes towels or bedding at 60. I don’t care either way. I’d love to know what people do in their houses that mean their towels get so dirty and germ infested they need boil washing!

From an environmental point of view people need to be doing less washing, things do not need washing after one use unless it’s underwear/socks or very fitted tops or sportswear. Most jumpers, trousers etc can be worn a few times unless you’ve spilled something on them. Towels and sheets do not need daily changing, even a few days seems mad to me. Once a week is plenty.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/04/2021 19:20

I put my teatowels in with DH's daily load(s) of cleaning cloths (he has a small cleaning company so they all get a good hot wash

BLTLover · 04/04/2021 19:23

On another point I washed my towels with no detergent at all once and they were so much softer. I read this should be done every now and again as just water removes alot the excess detergent that builds on the towels wash after wash.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 04/04/2021 19:29

I separate white and coloureds. Coloureds 40C, whites 60C. Bedding, dish clothes, tea towels are 60C .

Ooh that's interesting- never heard that before! Smile
