Is this weird or am I a slattern

I think it totally fine to wash tee towels in with clothes washing .
My partner thinks they should be washed separately on a hot wash.
He thinks it just not right to have tee towels and underwear washed together as its unhygienic.
My clothes washing is on a 40 degrees wash.
Tell me Im not mad .
Happy Easter everyone.

I mostly wash them, bedding and face masks at 60 degrees with Dettol laundry cleanser Grin but life is short, sometimes they just go into the regular wash which is washed at 40. We're all still alive and rarely I'll.

allgoodinthehood · 04/04/2021 09:12

We dont use conditioner in a normal wash either. I would wash a sports kit separately as its probably not gone in the wash strait away so therefore would be smelling.
I would wash pet towels separately on a higher temp as well.

This is the benefit of using detergent. Nothing should be coming out of a wash dirty!

LemonRoses · 04/04/2021 09:13

Like bedding and towels, glass cloths go the laundry for a hot wash and iron. Heat needed to kill off any tenacious bugs.

stuckinarutatwork · 04/04/2021 09:13

Yes altogether (unless we've had a sickness bug or something). Wash at 40, hang outside to dry.

oohmama · 04/04/2021 09:14

I wash them separately
But I have diagnosed OCD (contamination type) so that's why
Collect them over two weeks then do a full wash on high heat

Everyone I know just chucks them in together
I wish I could
Would make life easier for sure!

Bluntness100 · 04/04/2021 09:15

I do them together but my daughter is of the opinion towels and tea towels need to be done separately at 60 and the clothes at forty.

I’ve reached the grand old age of 52 and not had an issue from doing it so will crack on. I even throw the dishcloths in there. So am a proper slattern 😃

YourCakesAreShit · 04/04/2021 09:15

Fellow slattern signing in.

Until I die of some terrible towel-borne illness, I will continue to throw everything in at 40.

VerityWibbleWobble · 04/04/2021 09:16

Everything together in this house, use that dettol laundry stuff if there's anything grim in the basket.

allgoodinthehood · 04/04/2021 09:17

Looks like its slatterns united then.😉

Tea towels in the washing machine when a bit grubby. Will get washed with whatever goes in next - could be bedding or could be clothing.

simbobs · 04/04/2021 09:17

I wash mine with towels, without fabric conditioner, and at 60°, and any microfibre dusters etc go in too. Clothes and bedding at 40°.

MiddlesexGirl · 04/04/2021 09:18

I put tea towels in with towels so the load is never short.
But I wash clothes at 30 as recommended.

And yy to no conditioner on towels of any kind. I use those dryer balls to keep towels fluffy.
And I don't use conditioner on anything because it makes it slimy and less ironed looking.

NoParticularPattern · 04/04/2021 09:19

Washing comes out clean does it not? If it does then they’re fine to be washed together. If it doesn’t then you need to alter how you’re washing. Everything gets washed together here. The only things that don’t are towels and bedding and that’s only because I don’t have room for them in with the regular stuff, not for reasons of cleanliness. Everything is clean and smells nice!

SpareBib · 04/04/2021 09:20

they go in with bedding and towels for a 60 wash here - but we have housemite allergies so have to wash bedding at 60 anyway.

AliceAliceWhoTheFook · 04/04/2021 09:20

@musicalfrog

I wash all my towels (and bedding) on 60, other clothes on 40.

That the 40 wash will not remove the potential germs on your tea towels would be my concern.

^this

Pants should not be washed at 40°C with tea towels...Envy

Bedding and towels weekly at 60C (hand towels and tea towels changed regularly then chucked in the towel basket)

Every so often (monthly or every 2 months) bedding and towels are washed at 90°C

Clothes washed at 40°C

DropDTuning · 04/04/2021 09:20

@dudsville

This is the benefit of using detergent. Nothing should be coming out of a wash dirty!

Why do you think washing machines have so many different temperature settings then?

Watchingthetelly · 04/04/2021 09:21

Tea towels and cloths on their own at 90. Towels, bedding and underwear at 60. Clothes at 30.

Mystraightenersarebroken · 04/04/2021 09:21

Everything in together here, though towels often separate as we are a large household and I don't use fabric conditioner on them.
I have recently stopped using fabric conditioner entirely though as I read it actually wasn't good for fabric, nobody seems to have noticed so I guess there was no benefit! So even more likely to bung all in together now.

TaraR2020 · 04/04/2021 09:23

Kitchen linens washed separately to clothing at high temperatures,
Bedding and towels washed at high temperatures,
Clothing at 40,

I consider it unhygienic to do otherwise but can see im in the minority here!

Timeisavirtue · 04/04/2021 09:24

I’m the same, the washing machinE cleans the stuff so I ont know what the big deal is. I also don’t have time or nor do I want to waste money to wash them separately. SeemS like such an unpracticed thing to dO...

YourCakesAreShit · 04/04/2021 09:25

We need science.

We need an examination of how many germs are left on a tea towel or cloth after washing at 40 compared with washing at 60 or 90. Plus, of course, how many of those germs are going to make us ill.

Those washes could be the control. We could then sling a pair of used pants into the same loads again and repeat the germ tests. Obviously, shake/scrape the shit out, first - that can be for the third round of testing.

Nicolastuffedone · 04/04/2021 09:27

I wash towels and tea towels together at 60. I separate all my washing, light colours, dark and whites all go separately. I hate the ‘dingy’ look that whites eg have when all colours are all thrown in together...

WineWank · 04/04/2021 09:28

I do the same op. I also put my cats bowls in the dishwasher with normal plates 😱
