i went to show my dd and her bf a lovely house, on a public footpath, yesterday, which i had discovered the previous weekend, it is famous, lived in previously by a famous person
it has a moat.
the public footpath goes passed it,
some people, probably staff shouted at us that it was private

a bit later we looked at a lovely cottage and the presumably owners came by smiling happily at us,

aibu to go back to the large house every bloody day

I think it's quite reasonable, on a public footpath, to look across a moat at an unusual house. @Inthevirtualwaitingroom

ButamIthough · 04/04/2021 12:05

I so want to guess at the county of the OP but based on the parochial disdain for those that can afford the Big House and have staff (possibly, but could be the owners) with bullocks (possibly, but could be calves) who engaged with an innocent passer by FOR NO REASON at all Hmm I have my suspicions. Right in time for 2nd home spleen to be vented.

HeronLanyon · 04/04/2021 12:09

Well I have friends with first home which is very very beautiful 15th century small moated manor type house. Remote and in deep rural area but often gazed down the front drive by passers by who stumble upon it. The moat is small and rather clogged so I am not feeling the need to phone them and warn them about op. They don’t have staff not cottages nearby so think they are in the clear. Grin phew.

ButamIthough · 04/04/2021 12:13

Grin judging by the OPs other posts, relationships with neighbours, community, the NHS workplace - well, pretty much everyone they come across really - it is ALWAYS THEIR FAULT. So you might want to let them know in case the OP ventures out of their little world.

HeronLanyon · 04/04/2021 12:16

butamithough good thinking.

JustSleepAlready · 04/04/2021 12:34

Did you go into their property or not?

JustSleepAlready · 04/04/2021 12:34

On to.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 04/04/2021 19:37

that is uncalled for @ButamIthough
really not on.

HeronLanyon · 04/04/2021 20:03

Hey op. I kind of agreed with that post so I apologise if my ‘good thinking’ was uncalled for or was upsetting to you. Tbh I’d slightly lost track of the thread.

HOkieCOkie · 04/04/2021 20:45

So you want to go and annoy ppl in a house because they didn’t like you trespassing. I think you would find the ppl in the cottage less friendly if you get going and gawping at their home.

discovering footpaths is my hobby folks
😂
peachhouses · 04/04/2021 21:12

are you drunk OP? Serious question

ButamIthough · 04/04/2021 21:27

"Really not on"? Hmm I'd say OP all I've done is draw a commonality from your posts and you don't like it. That's ok, you're entitled it to like it in the same way that people are entitled to expect that people will just walk not feel on a footpath by their home. You come across as provocative and confrontational not just on this thread.

StanfordPines · 04/04/2021 21:31

@Inthevirtualwaitingroom

they made a big deal of us walking by, telling the young girl to move out of the way.

one of the other villagers had told us about the house the previous week.
so bizarre

What young girl?
StanfordPines · 04/04/2021 21:35

@Inthevirtualwaitingroom

i knew of the house but hadnt realised it had a moat, it is not that famous, a fairly famous person, i hadnt heard of, lived there, but the attraction to me was the moat. the famous person moved out and died in 1995, i discovered yesterday. for example if an actual famous person lived in a house, i doubt it would have a public footpath next to it, and if it did, fair play. i dont gawk, or gawp, or take photos, they have now moved the bullocks, to the field entrance, so i wont be able to go back
So this famous person was someone you hadn’t heard of? Also, if a famous person currently lived their they couldn’t get the footpath moved. I think it was Madonna who tried that.
HeronLanyon · 04/04/2021 21:36

I didn’t like to ask about the young girl.

StanfordPines · 04/04/2021 21:37

I can’t really believe that someone (why would you assume they were staff) would shout at you if you were just walking along the foot path pointing out the house to your DD. There must be more to it.

gokartdillydilly · 04/04/2021 21:43

Ugh! What an utter pain in the arse you sound. Why would you want to cause upset just to get revenge on being told, quite rightly, to bog off? Quit being so antagonistic and grow up.

MiaChia · 05/04/2021 15:19

You sound very jealous of people who own big houses 🤔Would you like people to come and stand outside your house and stare? I'm sure some of us will volunteer if that is your desire.

Also, your hobby of 'discovering footpaths' sounds peculiar. What do you do when you discover them besides stare at people's houses? How do you determine which footpaths are lost and need you to 'discover' them?

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 05/04/2021 18:33

most public footpaths do not go outside people's houses though

Discovering? What a load of crap.

You do know that footpaths are clearly marked on OS maps so you'd save a heck of a lot of time and effort if you 'discovered' a way to acquire some of these apparently rare, possibly even mystical parchments...

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 05/04/2021 18:57

ffs why is that a load of crap?
are you just trying to be shit?

i discover footpaths,
even if i had a os what difference?
i like to walk on them, not look at the map!
what boring person you are @PeggyArmstrong

I know a big house in the Chilterns that is hired out for fancy weddings. A very popular footpath runs round the edge of the grounds. There are signs up all along the edge of the grounds saying 'No Peeking!' Quite apart from the fact that it's an unbelievably twee way of putting it, if they want to stop people from seeing the wedding receptions taking place in the garden, all they have to do is plant a hedge. They won't, of course, because one of the selling points is that you can have your wedding photos taken with a fabulous view over countryside (the footpath is along the side of a hill) and a hedge would block that. Every time I walk along that path I have a good long into the garden on principle.

Lots do!
ConcreteUnderpants · 05/04/2021 19:13

Think the OP is getting quite a hard time actually.
When I moved to my old home on the country, I enjoyed many a weekend exploring new footpaths and trails in my new area.
