to take a tour guide of this house

i went to show my dd and her bf a lovely house, on a public footpath, yesterday, which i had discovered the previous weekend, it is famous, lived in previously by a famous person
it has a moat.
the public footpath goes passed it,
some people, probably staff shouted at us that it was private

a bit later we looked at a lovely cottage and the presumably owners came by smiling happily at us,

aibu to go back to the large house every bloody day

Your title explicitly asks if you should ‘take a tour guide’ of the house and there’s a clear indication that you’re annoyed they were rude and you’ll deliberately do this to teach them a lesson...and then you are defensive when people assume you’ll be standing there looking and deliberately hoping to annoy them? Have you ever seen a tour guide walk straight past a place of note on foot without standing around / looking? You are quite clearly on here hoping we’ll all laugh at your plan to turn up repeatedly with guests to stand in the sane spot hoping they’ll see you. Leave them alone for goodness sake.

*same

ShinyMe · 04/04/2021 09:21

If the house is so famous, why were you only told about it last week?

You sound totally deranged OP. Find something more constructive to do and leave the poor moat house people alone.

steff13 · 04/04/2021 09:23

If you really want to piss them off, you could go for a swim in their moat. Unless it's full of crocodiles.

As an aside, is there a drawbridge as well?

LudoBear · 04/04/2021 09:23

Please can I have your address as discovering random peoples homes is my hobby.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 04/04/2021 09:26

This has just reminded me of the time we were on holiday in Greece and wandering a lovely town one evening. My mum took a shine to one particular house and decided to do a full on hands-cupped-around-eyes peer right in the window. She was most put out when the owner quite rightly pulled the curtains shut. My mum seemed to take the view that the entire town was a tourist attraction and therefore window-peering was fair game!

Expectingsomethingwonderful · 04/04/2021 09:28

I used to live in a house that was amazing to look at. We used to get all sorts taking photos outside the front gate. I just found it amusing and would happily talk to the people outside, feeling proud to live in a .beautiful house (just a shame it wasnt so pretty on the inside!). go ahead and admire the beautiful house, shame the owners arent willing to share it.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 04/04/2021 09:29

it had a drawbridge yes

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 04/04/2021 09:30

we discovered it by chance last week, and after we had been there a local asked us if we had seen it!

Goldieloxx · 04/04/2021 09:30

If you can clearly see it from the public highway you are free to gawk as much as you like, and it is rubbish to say it's private, how snooty. If you are lucky enough to live in a beautiful house, people will stop and look at it, wish I was rich enough to have that problem!

Avanotherone · 04/04/2021 09:32

I wonder if the OP's delightful 'not from round here' prejudice against "incomers" preceeded them. Can't possibly understand why the big house wasn't rolling out the welcome matHmm

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 04/04/2021 09:34

i knew of the house but hadnt realised it had a moat, it is not that famous, a fairly famous person, i hadnt heard of, lived there, but the attraction to me was the moat.
the famous person moved out and died in 1995, i discovered yesterday.
for example if an actual famous person lived in a house, i doubt it would have a public footpath next to it, and if it did, fair play. i dont gawk, or gawp, or take photos, they have now moved the bullocks, to the field entrance, so i wont be able to go back

OP posts:
ButamIthough · 04/04/2021 09:36

So maybe they were locals after all! Waiting for the sad face Daily Fail article now.

Saz12 · 04/04/2021 09:39

OP, would you like it if some stranger took their family to see your home? Stood on the pavement and stared? How about if it was happening several times s week? Or several times a day?

They might not have any right to stop you doing that, but it doesn’t mean it’s not rude.

And so what that they can afford a fancy house? Does anyone who is richer than me deserve no privacy? Or is it an absolute figure?

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 04/04/2021 09:49

exactly,
how snooty, particularly in comparison to the other lovely house owners

OP posts:
Cosmo7 · 04/04/2021 09:53

OP, are you quite well?

You keep repeating about this moat. You’re not even clear who was shouting at your DD - what are “incomers” anyway? Now they have moved the “bullocks...,?”

Sounds like bollocks, to me. How could you “take a tour guide” of this house anyway?

SoupDragon · 04/04/2021 09:58

Where does the tour guide fit in?

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 04/04/2021 10:00

bullocks @Cosmo7
or perhaps calves

OP posts:
notanothersaveusername · 04/04/2021 10:06

I would take delight in annoying the moat people!

NinthCircle · 04/04/2021 10:07

@Inthevirtualwaitingroom

bullocks *@Cosmo7* or perhaps calves
Maybe a hint your ‘tour guiding’ ways can be done without?
sst1234 · 04/04/2021 10:12

So the vast majority of people say OP is unreasonable and yet she keeps going.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 04/04/2021 10:13

they are spoil sports imo, i am not going to change my mind based on this

Cosmo7 · 04/04/2021 10:19

Well what is your “tour guide” going to consists of going forwards OP? Dragging your neighbours to walk past this house and the marvel of the most? Will you be charging a fee?

You’ve already said there were lots of cars across ye olde moat (presumably among the bullocks which may also be calves) and that this led you to suspect the presence of “incomers.” Shock Maybe they’ve all gone home now. Don’t worry about it.

Cosmo7 · 04/04/2021 10:19

*Marvel at the moat

PurpleWh1teGreen · 04/04/2021 10:36

We have a public footpath that runs alongside our Garden. It is used to access a field behind a group of houses.

I'm fairly alert to people who stop for a gawk to let their dog shit half way along the footpath.
