I wouldn’t spend hours of life in a queue for anything like that. Nothing is worth the time

PrelovedWithValue · 04/04/2021 10:21

Give your retail staff a break!

Oh they get holidays, don't worry. They just get to choose when to take them instead of being forced to take off one specific Sunday.

My friends that work in the local Tesco love working Sunday because it pays significantly better. If there's Sunday overtime available, it isn't available for long!

RevolvingPivot · 04/04/2021 10:22

My time to join was 10.14 then when it got to then it changed to 10.15 then at 10.15 it changed to 10.16. Anyway I'm not sure what I was expecting but nothing left.

Not even when the queue is online and you can potter around the house found whatever you would be doing anyway? Just with one eye on your phone/laptop/computer?

RevolvingPivot · 04/04/2021 10:22

@Readthestandingorder

B and M do a wonderful egg chair for £125, all year round. So comfy and no need to queue!
But you can't buy online.
rainbowthoughts · 04/04/2021 10:24

@gerispringer

You’ll be a long time in the queue as if you are in the U.K. shops are shut today ( Easter Sunday).

I'm in the UK and have just been to ALDI Confused

stuckinarutatwork · 04/04/2021 10:24

@expectopelargonium

I think I heard somewhere or other that they have a shortage due to the blockage in the Suez Canal, and that deliveries were delayed.
Highly unlikely. The ship thing is very recent. This stuff would've been docked and unpacked several weeks ago I'd have thought.
IhateBoswell · 04/04/2021 10:24

Anyone know if the supermarkets are open today in England and Scotland? 🤔

rainbowthoughts · 04/04/2021 10:25

LOL at all the Scottish posters getting triggered because their shops are open and a poster dared not to know this.

Nah, it's not that. It because posters say UK when they mean England.

TurquoiseDragon · 04/04/2021 10:25

Not all shops have to shut. It depends on their size. IIf they are below a ccertain footage, they can be open.

Sansaplans · 04/04/2021 10:29

England and Wales. Possibly an irony of someone being triggered about Scotland being 'forgotten' and then not including Wales.
rizzo23 · 04/04/2021 10:35

@PrelovedWithValue as a Tesco worker I can tell you Sunday isn't worth working anymore because it's only time and a quarter now. It used to be more but they've taken it away when they've given us a pay rise.

rainbowthoughts · 04/04/2021 10:39

Perhaps in this example, but generally it's just England.

NotCurrently · 04/04/2021 11:04

For the person who asked why this is a big deal, everywhere is out of stock of reasonable priced garden furniture

GuildfordGal · 04/04/2021 11:06

I don't think I really knew what an egg chair was. I've just googled because of this thread. I think they look annoying! I'd hate to be swinging around if I was trying to read or something. But then, I get motion sickness using Google Earth Grin

thevassal · 04/04/2021 11:09

I feel proper guilty. Logged on at 7.59 because I wanted an egg chair, came up out of stock, refreshed at 8.00, got one, in basket, checked out by 8.02, no queuing at all! Messaged my friend who said she'd been on since 5am and had only just got in and egg chairs were already out of stock at 8.05, and then have now seen all the messages about people queueing for hours etc. No idea how I managed to completely bypass the queue but very happy about it!

thevassal · 04/04/2021 11:15

@VaggieMight

I have scanned the thread but I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I love Aldi and have bought 'must have' items before, what is so special today? Is it the egg chair and rattan garden furniture? You can get those items all year from B&M or the Range. I'm not criticising anyone for queuing, just wondering if I am missing something?
I personally don't think the B&M one looks as nice, and the range one is twice the price of the aldi one. Also none of the other shops offer delivery, so unless you have a big car, which many people don't, and/or don't have a partner able to help you transfer it (they're heavy and bulky!) it would be impossible to get one!

Pretty straightforward really, why wouldn't someone want to buy an item they want, of good quality, with a three year guarantee, for half the price or less than equivalent options, and delivery available?

Also don't get the eye rolling about online queuing - I didn't queue for this but have done for other online tickets before, as other posters said you can get on with nearly anything else while doing it so it is minimal inconvenience, much less so than just going to a shop even without any queue!

thevassal · 04/04/2021 11:16

Sorry vaggiemight I know you weren't criticising anyone for queuing, just posted all my responses in one!

JennysWell · 04/04/2021 12:46

I got the day bed, the rattans sofa was my second choice so worked well

Sparklingbrook · 04/04/2021 14:46

The odd thing is, even with Sunday trading, retail staff in Scotland also get days off. Strange but true!

I'm not sure why you think that to be odd/strange I am sure they do but my point was it's Easter Sunday so really nice to know that every year that day will not be a working one like Christmas Day.

Sparklingbrook · 04/04/2021 14:48

I know someone that works in another supermarket and they just get normal time on a Sunday. Definitely no financial benefit there.

ssd · 04/04/2021 20:11

Usually workers who have been there a long while will be getting paid extra on Sundays. Bank Holidays etc. As that was in their contract when they started. My work is like that but its the way of the world these days.

PrelovedWithValue · 04/04/2021 20:49

And my point was that not everyone wants their days off to be set. Christmas is a big deal for a large proportion of the population, even if they aren't Christian. Easter isn't close to being celebrated in the same way (although I appreciate that it's a very big deal for practising Christians). Of course it's possible that Easter is a much bigger deal across the border than it is in Scotland.

But having worked in Tesco, working Sundays are optional. I can't speak for all supermarkets. So anyone that wants to have Sundays off, can. But generally people prefer to work it as they get paid more. Certainly in the one I worked in.

sweetchillidumplings · 25/04/2021 08:16

Not sure if anyone else is on today but I have been since 7ish. It said that I would be on before 8 when I went on (745 first time I thought to screenshot). Really annoyed honestly. What a stupid message about more being released. I DID keep an eye on their socials, I found out they were releasing by subscribing to their email. So how the f* are you meant to get one then?! It's ridiculous. Half the people buying them will just sell them on. I can't afford the more expensive ones so think I will just give upSad
