Peanut butter and butter on toast is wrong

Settle a debate for me Grin If you are eating peanut butter on toast do you butter the toast first? I don't because it seems like too much fat but DP does and calls me weird.
YABU - Toast, butter and peanut butter
YANBU - toast and peanut butter doesn't require extra

No butter, it’s peanut butter, so no point in adding butter Envy

Vargas · 02/04/2021 18:49

I must be a complete perv because I like smooth and crunchy peanut butter...(both with butter of course)

And particularly lovely is butter - PB - apricot jam. Unbelievable. I could eat an entire loaf of bread with this on.

HeronLanyon · 02/04/2021 18:51

Never butter but always something else to wet it a bit - I favour sliced gherkins (but I’m originally American). Or some kind of jelly/jam.
Never butter. Not even in p butter sandwich - always a different wetting agent.

Mimilamore · 02/04/2021 18:57

Lovely thick, cold Lurpak, thin crunchy peanut 'butter' sprinkling of sea salt

twoastars · 02/04/2021 19:07

YABU I'm afraid. I used to always have it without for the same reason but I've realised it's so much better with butter

LysistrataVickers · 02/04/2021 19:12

We're the other way round, I like it with butter (extra tasty) and DH likes it without (HIBU).

Newestname001 · 02/04/2021 19:27

Urrrgh! No butter! However peanut butter thickly on good toast followed by fine cut marmalade! Yummmmm! 😋

BobbinThreadbare123 · 02/04/2021 19:28

Hot buttered toast. While the bread is toasting, eat a big spoonful of peanut butter out the jar. Put the jar away and then enjoy hot buttered toast. Or PB and raspberry jam with the pips in, on toast.

HeronLanyon · 02/04/2021 19:29

Oh bobbin that is so TRUE !

QuentinWinters · 02/04/2021 19:30

My favourite is actually cinnamon bagel/PB/apple jelly. Mmmmmm

YADNBU.

But what peanut butter toast DOES need is Nutella (other chocolate & hazelnut spread brands are available).

Oh yes! I think I actually have some Nutella type spread in my cupboard- will try it for my next elevenses. 🌹
HeronLanyon · 02/04/2021 19:42

I’ve realised I have never had Nutella. That’s quite shocking. Not sure why really.

BobBobBobbin · 02/04/2021 19:48

I love butter to a ridiculous degree but I quite agree it has no place on PB on toast

YouBroughtMeDaffodils · 02/04/2021 19:48

There's no butter in peanut butter. So always butter first. Then peanut butter. Then raspberry preserve.

WestendVBroadway · 02/04/2021 20:05

I am generally of the opinion that when making a sandwich, or topping toast, butter is not necessarily at all if the filling/topping is moist eg jam(don't like it) honey( don't like that either, cheese spread anything with mayonnaise etc. Butter is only required for dry fillings like meat , cheese salad etc...............However if I am having peanut butter on toast I feel that butter( not margarine or spread) truly enhances the taste and so I make an exception.

BaggoMcoys · 02/04/2021 20:08

I always put butter on, then peanut butter. It's too dry otherwise and I want the extra calories.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 02/04/2021 20:21

Always butter on EVERYTHING to do with bread/crackers. Doesn't matter what goes on top.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/04/2021 20:22

Agreed PufferFish
I love butter.

LemonRoses · 02/04/2021 20:25

Peanut utter is grim. A mouth full of sludge.

My husband has disgusting habits and covers his toast in a dense layer of marmite topped with a thick layer of gritty peanut butter. Just grim.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 02/04/2021 20:27

@IHaveBrilloHair

Agreed PufferFish I love butter.
Me too Grin a lot.
Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/04/2021 20:28

Noooooo, ,you are soooooo wrong. I would love to do this but, though I could take the fat, I’m low carbing so can’t do the bread. God I miss it so.

Horehound · 02/04/2021 20:28

Totally agree with you op. No need for butter and I actually hate it if it has butter on.

possumgoddess · 02/04/2021 20:34

I used to think the same as you about butter and chocolate spread - I really couldn't understand why it would be necessary. Then I saw my niece spreading her toast with butter before putting on (an obscene amount of) chocolate spread we I tried it. It is sooooo good! The melted saltiness of the butter just sets off the chocolate spread. I imagine it might be the same with peanut butter (but I don't eat peanut butter because it is disgusting).

HeronLanyon · 02/04/2021 20:49

judas I’m imagining a small crunchy lettuce or even endive leaf with everything loaded onto it - would that work ?? Hate to think if you going without everything !
