You can just say 'my husband' or 'my daughter', you know, instead of bloody 'DH' or 'DD'. WE WILL STILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND YOU!

How refreshing would it be, just for once, to see someone here state 'my husband' instead of their 'DH'?!

It's such a sappy wet-lettuce thing to say anyway, plus half the bloody time there are threads about how someone's 'darling' husband has been found to be texting some other woman/cam girl/sex worker, etc

It's as though people here think nobody will be able to understand them unless they preface the person they're talking about with 'darling'. WHY?!

WHEN WILL WE STOP THE TWATTERY?

@Neighneigh

I'd rather we focus on eliminating 'hubs' and 'hubby'
A 1000% this.

It’s not a mumsnet thing. It’s a universal form of shorthand across all Internet forums that is understood in a multitude of languages and contexts. It’s not tweeness, it’s meant to confirm familiarity and instant recognition. The D for dear part of DH or DD or DS isn’t supposed to be taken literally.

@SheldonesqueIsUnwell

Indeed *@littlepattilou*

Not to mention the obligatory ‘is that you Piers/Meghan/Boris/Gwynneth/auntyJane’ Whenever a differing opinion to the masses is posted.

No. No it isn’t.

I also like when someone posts about how their ex-friend is nasty and did all of this stuff, and someone will reply with "Does their name start with L?"

Also, the "if you were the woman in the Home Bargains in York today..."

PhillipPhillop · 01/04/2021 19:01

I have three dds. Dd1, dd2 and dd3. I would fall asleep writing out eldest daughter, middle daughter and youngest daughter. And how would I describe them if I also had dd4 and dd5? I would probably explode.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 19:01

Generally you can see straight away who is who from context. It really is not difficult.

I don't even notice it.

Annietheacrobat · 01/04/2021 19:02

I thought the same at first. Now barely notice it.

Inastatus · 01/04/2021 19:03

So we have to write everything long-hand now do we? You are being very unreasonable original poster.

justasking111 · 01/04/2021 19:03

Was stumped today by one post using the following acronyms I did google to start with but was no wiser Grin

NRP
EOW
RP
STAHP

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 19:04

I would quite like to have a whiney moan about the use of 'I have a friend lets call her Jane, and another friend let's call her Joanne' etc. Let's not bother I am bored with all you characters already. Grin Or even worse Friend A, friend B, Friend C etc

merryhouse · 01/04/2021 19:04

@Bagamoyo1 (questioning the use of "hobby")

When I've done this it's because I've felt that the word "karate" or "bellringing" might derail the train of thought into specifics when I'm attempting to apply it to the general.

Occasionally I have been known to refer to the latter as our "niche hobby" Grin

oooh, and I use Grin all the time too...

Giantrooster · 01/04/2021 19:04

I would take a guess that Dcat, Ddog, Dfish and Dchicken are consistently more darling to the posters than a lot of DHs Grin.

Oh yeah, and the evers-so-condescending, twatty ' Daily Mail letters page is THAT way' >>> type comments if you DARE to have a view that is not part of the liberal left agenda. (Alongside 'your National Front membership is in the post,' and 'Margaret Thatcher's offspring has entered the forum!'

Can ‘meh’ have bells on?
Only when it's D'Meh.
ancientgran · 01/04/2021 19:07

I said it this afternoon on a covid thread, the data one.

eurochick · 01/04/2021 19:08

It's twatty. I hate it. I've been here for about a decade and never felt the need to resort to it. On these threads someone always says that it's common internet usage. Not on any other site I have frequented over the years. It's so cringy.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/04/2021 19:09

merryhouse Grin

See ‘niche hobby’ makes me envisage an underground dungeon and a sex swing and a cupboard full of toys. Wink

I’ve clearly been reading too many abruptly deleted threads on here at 2am.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 19:09

@MLMsuperfan

I agree OP.
Shouldn't your username be MultiLevelMarketingsuperfan?

Also when an instruction is repeated 3 times. REPORT REPORT REPORT.

ZoeCM · 01/04/2021 19:11

The oddest thing is when they type out the full word but still add a "D" at the beginning ("DDad", "DNephew").

I remember being confused when I read a post about a DA who had a miscarriage. How did they know their district attorney's medical history? Took me a moment to realise they probably meant "darling aunt".

It's funny when posters get snooty about someone using "LO" but happily use "DS/DD" themselves. Surely "darling son/daughter" is much more saccharine than "little one"?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 01/04/2021 19:11

What an attention-seeker you are, OP. How odd that you'd accuse others of twattery... ironic almost.

I don't use the shorthand terms, don't much like them myself but, I don't care what other people use to describe their relationships. I'm also not so self-absorbed that I'd think that others would care.

Sad.
