Double standards on mn.

This week so far:

  1. I have seen various posters defend Caroline Flack for having issues. Maybe she did but then the same argument would not be made on Chris Browne.
  1. A thread on the physical attractiveness on male politicians. Imagine a male forum did this on females.
  1. A thread with a woman hiding her inheritance from her husband and encouraged to do so by many posters and him being called financially abusive for being sensible over money. When men do this on mn it's all ltb.

Am I missing something? I call myself a feminist so am pro equality and that's how I raised my kids but why is this not being called out on mn?

OP posts:

@CandyLeBonBon

Well the cps won't bring a case to trial if there is a lack of evidence will they? And all evidence produced has to reach the required threshold. So if there are false allegations, it's most likely that the case will be abandoned before court because the evidence just doesn't stack up!
Really? Even though we know cases go to trial with little evidence and that's why the person is cleared?

My point isz which no one has answr e -

Do we automatically believe everyone who says they have been abused?

Butwasitherdriveway · 02/04/2021 22:46

Ok a more pertinent case.

Would you have believed Roxanne Pallet?

CandyLeBonBon · 02/04/2021 22:54

You're getting very close to sounding like an abuse apologist @Butwasitherdriveway

I'll turn it around. Why WOULDN'T you believe someone who said they have been abused, when stats show that the likelihood of it being false is less than 1%

Or to reframe that. 99.4% of all accusations are truthful

CandyLeBonBon · 02/04/2021 22:59

Try reading the resources I posted.

You're talking rubbish.

Really, am I .

And what does one of those sound like? Because I've never actually met one.

Is it the same as people who excuse abuse by females as seen on these threads?

Back to the point though. No, I don't believe ebery single accusation just because it's a female. Shoot me.

I also would be interested to know how stats know how many false accusations take place.

CandyLeBonBon · 02/04/2021 23:01

Scrap that. You just sound like a good old fashioned MRA.

Butwasitherdriveway · 02/04/2021 23:02

That would be a great point except..

I wouldn't believe a man straight off the bat either.

Sorry to disappoint.

CandyLeBonBon · 02/04/2021 23:03

Oh. And I said I'd believe a PERSON. Who told me they were abused. Not just women. You're the one bringing sex into it. Your misogyny is showing.

Butwasitherdriveway · 02/04/2021 23:05

For an example.

On a recent thread about the Philpotts, there ws about 85 reasons given by Mairead did what she did.

Is that an abuse apologist?

The thing is, there is no point having courts if we go 'ah, but he's guilty anyway'. What's the point?
Someone up thread is convinced Brad Pitt is an abuser because a paper said Angelina said so.

You know when men say their exes are crazy etc? This is what this reminds me of.

It's just too easy.

I am far from an abuse apologist. But this jumping to believe a woman and vilify men? Not for me.

Butwasitherdriveway · 02/04/2021 23:06

@CandyLeBonBon

Oh. And I said I'd believe a PERSON. Who told me they were abused. Not just women. You're the one bringing sex into it. Your misogyny is showing.
Genuinely candy - so you would always believe a victim? Every time?

Not misogny, given that we were talking about women. At least try to be less goading.

CandyLeBonBon · 02/04/2021 23:10

If my child told me they'd been abused, damned right I'd believe them. I know what it feels like when other people decide you're lying.

So I'm going to leave it there because I've got personal experience of abuse, and accusations of lying and it's really incredibly damaging.

Enjoy your night.

Oh come on.

Your child, yourself, myself (as an ex victim of abuse), someone you know
Is VERY different to reading a case in the paper of which we know nothing about anything, Candy. Of course it is.

'
My point is that many people in the public eye have their careers tarnished.

The mantra is to believe all victims.'

What mantra adhered to by who?

As an individual I choose to believe it if someone discloses that they have been the victim of a sex crime/s because I know it is vanishingly unlikely that they are lying. And if a person says my ex raped me it would be pretty awful to say prove it.

The reason for the I believe you type stuff is because victims of sex crimes have been disbelieved, turned away, silenced, seen as asking for it in society forever.

I really don't understand the issue with an individual woman treating a disclosure of abuse at face value. So many victims (women and girls, men and boys) have suffered because they were not taken seriously. (Is that a better term than believed for you?)

Roxanne Pallet?
NiceGerbil · 02/04/2021 23:18

Oh god.

You would not believe either a man or woman girl or boy who disclosed being the victim of a sex crime?.

And THIS right here is how all those clergy, teachers, sports coaches, 70s slebs got away with it for so long.

And why the likes of warboys were left to keep at it. The police turned away women because they believed a cab driver wouldn't do that. They are supposed to be neutral..

Why do you think women started saying I believe you. Because all too often no one did and look at the harm that was caused by that

Did I say that? No.

Read my posts.

Someone close to you , someone you know is very different to reading an article and deciding ah yes they must be guilty.

Of course it is. Anyone who says otherwise is being very deceitful.

Denise Welch once talked about the damage the me too movement has done and the way it has enabled the Roxanne Palletts of the world to operate. She's right.

The world is not black and white. I'm sorry, it isn't.

NiceGerbil · 02/04/2021 23:31

Who is Roxanne pallet?

And I had a skim but I still can't work out what the double standard is that is being raised by these cases?

Butwasitherdriveway · 02/04/2021 23:33

Nice try diverting but it was in direct relation to PP telling me they always believe the victim.

Roxanne was proved to be falsely accusing a man of abuse - thank god for cameras.

By PPs standards, Ryan's career would be over.

Is that OK?

NiceGerbil · 02/04/2021 23:34

Who says I read an article and decide anyone must be guilty?

What does what Denise Welch say have to do with anything? I think she's a soap actress- coronation Street? I don't watch it.

I don't know who Roxanne pallet is.

What does all this have to do with double standards?

NiceGerbil · 02/04/2021 23:35

Ryan?

You want me to Google this stuff?

You seem to spend a lot of time reading the celebrity news maybe?

No, funnily enough. I just live in the real world, not la la land where we can believe every victim with no consequences

This faux confusion is doing my head in gerbil. Yes we have gone off OP but at least read the debate.
