Ok the facts - one year old child, having nose bleeds, not particularly heavy.
Happening daily, occasionally every other day, two a day in the past two days. For seven weeks. Seven. Fever for the last three days. Blood in stool (both fresh and dark) yesterday.

Advice from (multiple) gp phone calls -

  • Go to a&e if nosebleeds last over 5 minutes (it doesn't)
  • Call back on Monday if there's still blood in her poo because it's probably from the nose bleeds
  • Watch and wait (they won't tell me how long) if the nose bleeds continue we might do some blood tests.

No one's looked up her nose, apart from me. No one's willing to see if she has an infection. They refuse to see us in person because it's "not necessary".

Seven weeks.. almost 50 days of bleeding, younger than two years old. Is that REALLY ok?

(If you know who I am(because you're family and I've been moaning to you about this) please just pretend you haven't also seen me moaning on Mumsnet too)

No! I would go to A&E/ urgent care.

BlowDryRat · 27/03/2021 19:45

No, it's not ok. She needs to be physically examined by a doctor.

bestbefore · 27/03/2021 19:47

I'm super lax but I'd be calling 111 about that. Think she needs to be seen for sure

microgirl · 27/03/2021 19:47

Bring her in and get her bloods checked OP. Nose bleeds for no reason are very serious. She needs full blood works done ASAP!!

Notokanymore · 27/03/2021 19:51

Our only options in this area are A&e and gp. I spoke to 111 when I freaked out about the blood in her poo, they contacted the gp and said she needed to be physically examined. The gp rang and refused.

If I turn up at a&e I'm worried they'll say if she's not bleeding at that exact moment in time they won't see her.

Not ok at all, i would go to A&E maybe with a stool sample with blood in if you can.
I hope she's ok OP.

bez91 · 27/03/2021 19:51

No that's not ok, my 3 year old suffers with nosebleeds (they tend to come in waves) but not to that extreme. I'd expect them to at least consider prescribing some cream to apply up the nose to seal any broken vessels. Call 111

AcornAutumn · 27/03/2021 19:53

@BlowDryRat

No, it's not ok. She needs to be physically examined by a doctor.
It's not okay. Take her to A&E i think.

When you get a mo, complain to practice manager.

OhDearShirley · 27/03/2021 19:54

Go to A+E. She needs a full blood count and a clotting profile. Is she bruising easily or easily tired?

microgirl · 27/03/2021 19:54

How long do the nosebleeds last OP? Do they stop with pressure??

fallfallfall · 27/03/2021 19:56

I’d be suspicious of possible leukemia. And I’d mention that vs only focusing on the nose.

Cinderellashoes · 27/03/2021 19:57

Phone 111 now and explain that although she’s not currently bleeding you are worried enough and want her seen ASAP.

AcornAutumn · 27/03/2021 19:58

@fallfallfall

I’d be suspicious of possible leukemia. And I’d mention that vs only focusing on the nose.
Also It might be an infection easily sorted with antibiotics.

But do go.

Suzi888 · 27/03/2021 20:01

This happens to my friend and her DS, they’ve both been checked and told it’s normal.
I’d go to A&E for a formal check over though.

Lorieandrews · 27/03/2021 20:02

I’d also of the. She needs to be seen
Pead drs would rather you go and see them. Than not. They aren’t like adult drs. My next door neighbour is a pead A and E dr and always says this. He’d rather a parent go and get it checked.

SuperCaliFragalistic · 27/03/2021 20:03

I'm not sure you would get seen at A&E but I would definitely want this addressed in such a young child.

cocodomingo · 27/03/2021 20:06

Paeds nurse here and definitely advice go for paeds review in a&e and they need to do blood tests rather than focus on the nose. Hopefully this can rule out any serious issues but I wouldn't be watching and waiting on this

SplendidSuns1000 · 27/03/2021 20:10

I'm assuming she's asleep/getting ready for bed now so no need to wake her if she seems well in herself tonight, but go to A&E first thing tomorrow and they'll see her. Even if she's not currently bleeding when you go she still needs to be seen. Hope she's ok, OP x

Sexnotgender · 27/03/2021 20:12

That’s not ok. Please get her seen.

swiggless · 27/03/2021 20:13

@fallfallfall do you really think the OP needs to hear that right now?

BrilliantBetty · 27/03/2021 20:16

Wow. That's terrible. Make formal complaints.
And of course she should be seen at the hospital, poor thing.

ParadiseIsland · 27/03/2021 20:18

I assume you mean red blood in the stool. This can’t be from the nose bleed. The blood would have been ‘digested’ and at least turned black.

I’d go to A&E. if he GP refuses to see you.

Notokanymore · 27/03/2021 20:18

Thank you all, I thought I was going slightly mad.
I'm going to let her sleep tonight and get her help for sure tomorrow.

OP posts:
Notokanymore · 27/03/2021 20:19

The blood in the stool was both red and black

OP posts:
LordOfTheOnionRings · 27/03/2021 20:19

Go to A and E now
