Ok the facts - one year old child, having nose bleeds, not particularly heavy.
Happening daily, occasionally every other day, two a day in the past two days. For seven weeks. Seven. Fever for the last three days. Blood in stool (both fresh and dark) yesterday.

Advice from (multiple) gp phone calls -

  • Go to a&e if nosebleeds last over 5 minutes (it doesn't)
  • Call back on Monday if there's still blood in her poo because it's probably from the nose bleeds
  • Watch and wait (they won't tell me how long) if the nose bleeds continue we might do some blood tests.

No one's looked up her nose, apart from me. No one's willing to see if she has an infection. They refuse to see us in person because it's "not necessary".

Seven weeks.. almost 50 days of bleeding, younger than two years old. Is that REALLY ok?

(If you know who I am(because you're family and I've been moaning to you about this) please just pretend you haven't also seen me moaning on Mumsnet too)

Another one saying just go to A & E and explain the history calmly and factually - including the fact that 111 referred you to your GP who then refused you an appointment. I’m sure they will sort things out for your little DD. Flowers

@TypeThoseFeelingsOutGoodWoman

The second or third hysterical post telling the OP that nose bloods are VERY serious was very unreasonable. As if that person has the foggiest clue about clinically diagnosing someone.

OP, I hope you get your child seen. But nose bleeds can be quite common.
She probably has a weak vessel.

Anything can set it off. Crying for example. It can happen more in the summer because of the heat.

It can be cauterised I believe (someone might correct me on that) but I'm not sure id want my 1 year old to go through that.

Nose bleeds are NOT common in children under two years of age and should always be investigated
GooodMythicalMorning · 28/03/2021 11:23

I'd go A and E too. surprised at a GP giving that advice for a small child. Hope little one is ok.

Flowers24 · 28/03/2021 11:24

Definatley go to A&E and get her checked out xx

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 28/03/2021 12:58

Have you been to A and E OP?

mummylovesthesunshine · 28/03/2021 13:28

Yes go to to a and e . Also report the reckless gp who refuses to help , even though 111 has requested she be checked over.

Should be feckless not reckless
mummylovesthesunshine · 28/03/2021 13:30

@Notokanymore

The blood in the stool was both red and black
Dark blood means blood from further op on the stomach that has worked its way to the bowel. Please get some medical advice from children's a and e immediately, especially as the gp has ignored requests from 111
namechangerforthisconfessionn · 28/03/2021 14:21

Hope your DD gets seen today OP and turns out to be nothing serious Thanks

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 28/03/2021 18:01

.

Notokanymore · 28/03/2021 18:05

Hi everyone, we've had a long day in a&e. DD is okay, she has no infection or damage to the nose. They're running all the appropriate blood tests to find out the cause of the bleeds.

Thank you for encouraging me to get her seen, it was the kick up the arse I needed Flowers

Read my previous thread about GP. Refused to see DS multiple times for an ear infection ... A&E gave antibiotics but refused for pead to see him.

He had fucking sepsis... he was on IV antibiotics for days once discovered.

You know best! Do not be fobbed off.

WolfHunter · 28/03/2021 18:08

Best wishes OP. Hope your DD will be on the mend soon x

MrsBDarcy · 28/03/2021 18:20

I'm glad you've been. Hope all is ok and your mind is soon at rest

YukoandHiro · 28/03/2021 19:09

Glad she's been properly seen OP - I hope you get good news soon that it's nothing to worry about

rabbitheadlights · 28/03/2021 21:57

Glad DD is ok OP I've thought about you a few times today, have they advised on length of time for results etc?

Happened to me too...multiple days of calling 111 for a suspected infection until they finally referred me for an urgent GP appointment - which was refused. A&E wouldn't check me and only gave me painkillers as they said I needed to call 111. Eventually I was taken to a different A&E by ambulance with sepsis. Absolutely useless, thought I was going to die without being seen.
georgarina · 28/03/2021 22:23

So glad you and your DS are ok OP! And that you've been for a full check. Good luck with everything x

SquigglePigs · 28/03/2021 22:26

Sounds like a tough day but glad you've got someone looking at things for you. Hope DD is doing ok.

pipsqueakbollock · 29/03/2021 00:17

Overnight hug as you have been through the mill today

Please do not think you needed a kick up the arse.... you had an inkling which you questioned. Doesn't matter what the answer is, there was an itch and you responded.

My friend is a paediatric nurse. She's the first to admit she ignores the minor stuff in her own kids as she's de-sensitised by all the really serious stuff. She's missed a broken wrist, asthma, chicken pox to name a few.

Notokanymore · 29/03/2021 19:46

I wasn't going to update this thread again, but I think I've just seen a user on another thread questioning if this was another Real Time Cancer troll. - no hate to that poster, there has been a couple of that style thread lately.

There is currently ZERO concerns that DD has cancer. She has received her blood results, they weren't perfect but no one is dying.

I won't be keeping this updated with the rest of her appointment's, incase anyone was following and waiting. Thank you for all the support and well wishes Flowers

Good luck @Notokanymore, I hope your DD is okay Smile

BungleandGeorge · 29/03/2021 19:54

I’m very glad you got her seen, it would be very unfair to leave you worrying about her any longer. Very difficult when they’re little and can’t communicate very well
