‘D’H has announced that Covid doesn’t exist.

Name changed for this.

One year since lockdown 1 began and DH has announced that Covid does not exist.

The illness is ‘no different to flu’, he is not having the vaccine because ‘he doesn’t need to’ and if he falls ill with any symptoms listed as Covid he will not be taking a test and will phone in sick with backache or some such nonsense.

AIBU to think WTF?
Apparently he has thought this all along and decided to let us know as he is sick of ‘having his freedom taken away from him’.

What started as a chat about weekly testing ended up with this.

I don’t know what to do with this information. All year (pre. weekly testing /vaccine rollout) he’s just gone along with it all.

So, along with AIBU to think he has lost his mind, WWYD or say in this situation?

I have a friend who believes that the vaccine is designed to both kill everyone and make everyone sterile for population control.
Er I think that would be the end of all mankind.

I know how you feel. Mine is the same,we have had so many rows about it.He also says that the vaccine is designed to kill everyone. When he starts on about it,I just ignore him now. I am making plans to ltb Flowers

It was the bit about the illness being no different from flu... I wasn’t sure if you meant he was saying it was just flu - as in, the same virus and we’re all just rather unseasonally having a does of THE SAME VIRUS.

Or... yeah, Covid exists and it’s a deist are virus - it’s just no different than flu in severity and impact.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to come across as the accuracy police! 🤣

It’s just I wasn’t sure which you meant - and it would matter to me! Like I say - someone who has a different view to me on how serious Covid is, I can work with that, educate.

But someone who is spouting that it simply doesn’t exist... I wouldn’t see a future with that nutjob.

You say he is highly qualified academically. Obviously not in medicine. Academics often have no real common sense.

Sounds like he has been sucked in by the deluded ones on social media.

He says the tests give false positives Hmm, if he is talking about lateral flow tests this is indeed true.

It's about 1-3 per1000 though. Quite a small 'fail' rate.

I tried to reason with him.

We have vaccines for all sorts of diseases. We have medical tests for all sorts of conditions.
He can’t get past the fact that this vaccine hasn’t been trialled.

He's been watching stuff by Mike Yeadon I suspect, who has been propaganding about Covid being a manufactured pandemic with the implication being it's to gain control over us all.

The Police/protest Bill doesn't help, of course, as there is genuine concern about stifling the right to peaceful protest long after Covid has subsided.

I’d just ignore him, there’s no legal obligation to get tested or vaccinated so he can do what he likes there. At least he’s not said he’d go to work with symptoms, he’s said he’d stay off, the main thing is that he’d isolate.

I see this kind of thing becoming more common as people are just done with all the shit.

When cases are at the rate they are currently, if you get a positive from an LFT it is more likely to be false than covid. That is a mathematical fact. Therefore what he says is true.

If rates rise, the maths changes.

The: the false positives. It's actually the other way around, for example my cousin was knocked sideways by Covid, had all the symptoms really badly, and it took three tests to get a positive result.

Perhaps your husband might like to spend an hour or so in the company of the manager of my mums nursing home? They lost 13 residents in under 2 weeks to Covid.

She'd explain a few things to him....

It's bonkers really. I mean can you imagine years ago people saying well smallpox/measles isn't really a thing, and the vaccine will kill us all and it's a conspiracy Confused people were probably bashing down the door to get a vaccine
I think social media and the constant news probably doesn't help

It has been. JVT carefully and slowly explained it, for those who struggled with the simple flow chart that was produced.

Bit worrying that people are going to lose their minds in large numbers! You can not be rational and believe Covid is made up, so if lots of people start thinking that we are in real trouble as a country.

He will not change his mind.

Someone posted many months ago, that people had made their minds up about things, even back then.

I took heed of that in rl, said the occasional comment to ones I was not sure where they were at, and left things at that.

Yes. He says that Covid is exactly the same as FLU. Exactly the same virus.

He doesn’t believe that COVID is ANY different to flu.
Therefore, there is no ‘COVID’ only ‘FLU’ which we have lived with for years.

Not quite. Cant remember which vaccine it was, but when it first came out, there was the same kind of hesitancy as there is now. Not sure there was the conspiracy bit though.
