Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

OP posts:
MarieIVanArkleStinks · 27/03/2021 12:24

None of your business. It's their home too.

MintyMabel · 27/03/2021 12:24

As is your pointless remark on how deluded people are. So bloody irritating.

It isn’t pointless, it is the absolute crux of how we got in to this mess with Covid in the first place and is absolutely the reason we are struggling to get out of it. Until we stop deluding ourselves, we will remain in this shitshow.

dividedwefall · 27/03/2021 12:25

Why should people wait? We were supposed to only be using extreme freedom curbing laws in an emergency situation. Do you still think this is an emergency?

MintyMabel · 27/03/2021 12:26

Perhaps the local businesses will be glad

The ones who are primarily closed as the government’s lockdown rules favour mainly large stores?

WouldBeGood · 27/03/2021 12:26

Exactly
MintyMabel · 27/03/2021 12:26

Do you still think this is an emergency?

What else would you call an ongoing global pandemic?

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 27/03/2021 12:28

I think people have forgotten that these extremely draconian measures were brought it as an emergency, to deal with the immediate emergency situation we were facing (the collapse of the NHS). It has now become about avoiding all risk. And as that can never happen, where does this end?

Mum2Girls19 · 27/03/2021 12:28

and like a post on another thread....thousands of people are saying they are abiding by the rules..
but looking at this post people obviously arent...

I dont get how hard it is....
No travel until 12th april at earliest
That means dont take your family and go and see your gran

Have you reported them oh?
I would

ClarkeGriffin · 27/03/2021 12:28

@cryh

Could be shit again.

Think this should be the government slogan wrt Covid!

God it should be, shouldn't it? Bloody depressing.
dividedwefall · 27/03/2021 12:29

Ongoing = Not an emergency.
Emilyontmoor · 27/03/2021 12:29

MintyMabel A hoax probably 🙄 They read it on the internet.....

MintyMabel · 27/03/2021 12:30

Yes we’ll need booster and we’re due to finish current before then iirc?

We gave the first vaccine early December. It’s nearly 5 months on and we have only given a single shot to half the population. Do you thing the autumn booster will be completed in a couple of months?

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2021 12:31

Threads like this will attract these comments but compliance has been high.

I’ll continue to follow whatever we’re meant to as I do agree with time periods stated, it’s also not helpful when people broadcast they won’t. But overall we’ve driven cases down very low due to compliance, all along the year.

Also telling people they’re deluded and U.K. has worse behaviour doesn’t even help.

Where did I say that Confused
MintyMabel · 27/03/2021 12:33

Ongoing = Not an emergency.

Global pandemic = emergency. Something can last a long time and still be an emergency.

@Emilyontmoor So sad but so true!

cryh · 27/03/2021 12:33

Ongoing = Not an emergency erm, no. The situation is clearly an emergency in Brazil, it is ramping up again in Europe, ours is marginally more under control currently - but could become an emergency again.

Pretty mad behaviour to put out half a fire and then wander off to do something else because you got bored.

Alsohuman · 27/03/2021 12:33

Just today the vaccine Tzar has publicised that there will need to be another wave of booster vaccinations in the Autumn to prevent another wave of new variants and the currant round isn’t done yet

You are aware we do this annually for flu? Not all experts agree. From one extreme of masks being required for years (good luck with that) to the other who’s pointing out excess deaths are currently way below average. You pick your scientist and believe what they say.

ploddingalongwithlife · 27/03/2021 12:33

This post made me lol

Thanks for you @oohmamama

thetemptationofchocolate · 27/03/2021 12:35

I too am in the SW. I live in a tiny place but there is one holiday home here. Recently there were people in said holiday home and someone here (not sure who) reported them to the police who paid a visit to the holiday home & sent the people away.

Tal45 · 27/03/2021 12:35

I'm with you OP, it's because of people like this that the June opening up becomes less likely for the rest of us. Total selfishness. Everybody's had a bad year, why do some people think they're above the rules?

cryh · 27/03/2021 12:35

we’ve driven cases down very low due to compliance

Compliance has been good in the UK, but we really haven't had 'very low' cases since before EOTHO.

Cases are currently moderate-low and are just starting to rise again.

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2021 12:35

Mabel what us the limiting factor for vaccine rollout do you think?

cryh · 27/03/2021 12:38

Vaccine production and distribution is the issue.

The flu vaccine is not reactive in the same way - if we get a covid variant in the country that spreads and is not covered by the vaccine immunity people have we can not redesign and vaccinate fast enough to prevent issues.

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2021 12:40

Commentators say we are starting from a low base. No mention of ‘moderate’. Although could be your take.

People on here will react to case numbers rising they always do but you need to accept they’ll rise. The metric that will be used is hospitalisation. Tg.

Emilyontmoor · 27/03/2021 12:42

It has now become about avoiding all risk. And as that can never happen, where does this end?

It blatantly hasn’t since there are daily flights arriving from all over the world and nobody is even checking if people are quarantining. New variants have already been brought into the country and it is inevitable unless those controls are tightened that one will take hold. In terms of the responses of other countries we have been at the extreme libertarian end of allowing risk and our death rates are the result. It is quite obvious Johnson has always wanted to lean in the libertarian direction even listening to the wacky anti lockdown scientists funded by Americas extreme right wing. That he has now turned to the data to guide easing lockdown is not because he is avoiding any risk, it is because he finally understands the risk, because his previous approach resulted in maximum damage to the economy as well as the NHS and people’s lives.
