On the other hand the developer who built our house.planted silver birches, which in my opinion should be banned from small housing estates.

Diamondnights · 30/03/2021 08:37

@ghostyslovesheets

Fake grass
I hope!!
RoSEbuds6 · 30/03/2021 08:40

There should be some kind of official guide to trees that are suitable for different situations like new housing estates, Front gardens, small city plots, so people who would like to plant a tree know what to buy and where to plant them. Also

RoSEbuds6 · 30/03/2021 08:41

Ignore rogue ‘also’

Hathertonhariden · 31/03/2021 08:16

Fashion/hair/makeup/tattoos rarely age well
Wedding industry driven hen/stag/weddings that focus on maximising spend by the happy couple and their family and friends (also goes for baby related events)
Sneering at other people's design choices
Abandoning safeguarding in the drive for inclusion

Fake panelling on walls of modern houses

What does non-fake panelling look like? You do know all panelling is just pieces of wood stuck on a wall to make it look "nicer", right?

I've visited several historic houses with panelled rooms where the panelling was brought from another house and installed to make a room look nicer/older than it was.

Grey
Crushed velvet upholstery
Slugbrows
Fish lips
Bad overhead lighting

The hysterical reaction to Covid. It will be highly embarrassing due to the uncalled for destruction it has caused.

Parker231 · 31/03/2021 11:57

I don’t think the reaction to Covid has been hysterical. I hope people will remember the people who died, their families and those now suffering from long Covid

BluebellsGreenbells · 31/03/2021 12:04

And the doctors nurses and hospital staff who looked after them when their families couldn’t be there.

Absolutely this. The damage it has done to my mental health is horrendous.

Sneering at other people's design choices this.

Abandoning safeguarding in the drive for inclusion
And this. But I imagine it will be far too late then.

Crushed velvet decor.

Grey grey grey all through the house

Mine are largely tabloid rag/social media related

Celeb couples/ex couples ‘sharing’ their kids

Celeb couples ‘welcoming’ their latest baby

A famous person making a ‘sweet nod’ to another. This seemed to be reserved mainly for the royal family and can be as inane as Eugenie making a ‘sweet nod’ to Beatrice by calling her baby August when Bea was born in August. Or commenting on Catherine wearing a blue blouse as a ‘sweet nod’ to Diana as she wore one forty years ago.

Talking of Catherine, do we think they may stop calling her ‘Kate Middleton’? It’s only been a decade

Everyone suddenly being a poet. The Captain Tom ones were largely shocking

kierenthecommunity · 31/03/2021 21:11

And people selling sweets in a pizza box for £20. Although can’t knock them for cashing in I guess

pictish · 01/04/2021 05:10

Sweets in a pizza box. I’ve seen these. What the fuck is wrong with people that there’s even a market for this?

I don't live in the UK anymore so I seem to have missed this trend... WTF is sweets in a pizza box? Is it literally just pic and mix in a dominos box?!
scatteredglitter · 01/04/2021 06:46

I can't believe wicker furniture hasn't made this list ! Really not a fan of it and seems to be everywhere at the moment

Oh and Grey

Kitchen islands

Fire pits

Subscription-everything. Can't believe nobody's mentioned this one! Especially subscription boxes.

There are obviously some things where turning products into a subscription can make sense, but a lot of the time, it's basically just signing yourself up to pay for a lot of stuff you don't need, including invariably a lot of stuff that manufacturers can't shift and need to get rid of. A lot of the services deliberately make it difficult to unsubscribe, and sell on people's details to marketers.

All the embarrassingly twee language around subscription boxes as well--"Treats!" "A surprise!!" "Are you, like, five years old?" I always want to ask.

Abfabfanjo · 01/04/2021 09:09

I bought DD a subscription to Birchbox and she loved it. However the products were mostly sample sizes, or odd colours of eyeshadow/nail varnish.

I also fell for the Craft Gin Club marketing guff, until it occurred to me I could buy decent gin, tonic and snacks from Aldi for a heck of a lot less money!

Yes!!!

I do not get the subscription thing at all!

It's the absolute pinnacle of 'buying shit that you don't need'.

Parker231 · 01/04/2021 11:02

I like some of the subscription boxes - we have the gin and wine ones - good to try a different selection and if we like it we can buy again. I also have a house plant subscription every three months. Nice plant in a pot - saves me trying to find something which will survive in the different rooms of the house and are pet friendly to protect the dog and cat.

UnderHisAye · 01/04/2021 11:03

Yes to Birchbox! The last thing my skin needs is a new set of products each month. And the one mascara I really liked was so small it only lasted about three weeks.
