Mine are :-

Kellogg’s Rise and Shine, a very strange powdered juice drink that we had on special occasions’ instead of actual juice.

Vesta ready meals, particularly the Chow Mein which had crispy noodles on top.

Toast Toppers - weird sludge resembling baby food.

What were those crispy things that mum used to shallow fry... started off looking like strips of pasta and puffed up into something crispy, savoury.

We thought they were a miracle!

Inthesameboatatmo · 26/03/2021 13:08

Tab clear and mint Cadbury creme eggs

DannyOD · 26/03/2021 13:08

@Fifthtimelucky - so glad someone else remembers Lollygobblechocbombs. They were the best ice lollies ever but everyone kind of looks and me blankly when I mention them. Thought I was going mad!!

Hanky Panky peanut snacks.

WhiskyIrnBru · 26/03/2021 13:11

Creamola foam and strawberry Hippopottamousse. I loved them!

SoMuchToBits · 26/03/2021 13:16

@ginghamtablecloths those were Harvest pies! My dad used to take them to work in his packed lunch (in the 60s/early 70s).

I also remember crispy cod fries, which were a frozen food, little cod balls in batter.

QueenPaw · 26/03/2021 13:21

Tab clear drink

GrandTheftWalrus · 26/03/2021 13:22

I loved toast toppers.

Buggeredpelvicfloor2013 · 26/03/2021 13:26

Morrisons boil in the bag chicken curry!! I miss these! Jelly wellie sweets and gino ginelli ice cream, loved the toffee one and the mint choc chip one. Ooh and chunky chicken vol au vents at parties!

Jemenfouscompletement · 26/03/2021 13:26

Butterscotch Angel Delight (much nicer than strawberry!)
Golden Wonder salt and vinegar crisps (a 30g bag lasted me 3 days)
Fruit salad and black Jack chewy sweets 4 for1penny!
Penguins

DGRossetti · 26/03/2021 13:29

Multicoloured sugar. Granules. Not strands. All in the same bag.

No idea why DM bought it, but it looked good for visitors.

Pogostickhellride · 26/03/2021 13:34

Brains faggots I think they are called. I loved them growing up but I'm vegetarian now.

There was a sweet that came in a small plastic rubbish bin container. My Barbie dolls had a lot of bins.

Pease pudding. My mum got me excited that we were going to have pease pudding. All day I imagined a dessert which was rare for us. What I got was some sort of tinned, cold, jellied mushy pea substance.

My mum prefered to cook. She can't actually cook. So most dinners growing up were a bit weird.

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 26/03/2021 13:35

So many of the above - Birds Apeel, Horlicks Tablets, the frozen juice. Does any one else remember a box of frozen meat slices (I think it was about 10 in a box with plastic sheets between them to stop them sticking together) - really thin that you would be able to fry in about 2-3 minutes and have in pitta bread. absolutely delicious but questionable about the quality of the meat. Oh and dalesteaks either lamb or beef and made to feel more special that frozen burgers which is essentially what they were

katy1213 · 26/03/2021 13:37

@skirk64
I thought they were Wigwams - I loved them!

And Kunzle cakes. I wonder if I'd like them now?

gillybombilly · 26/03/2021 13:45

Chef square shaped soups (show how a good soup should be) were boxes of powdered soup you dissolved in hot water.

Getting a lump of dried soup that hadn’t been mixed in properly was just awful.

InsideNumberNine · 26/03/2021 13:48

@Wecouldbesohappybaby - Yes!!! I was coming on to say Quosh . They had one called Jungle Juice IIRC

MargaretThursday · 26/03/2021 13:49

Hot toddy when you were ill.
I think it was lemon juice, rum, hot water and sugar to taste. You would sleep through anything after that.

WalkinginMemphis2 · 26/03/2021 13:49

@DipSwimSwoosh Tab Clear was delicious!

A regular dinner my Mum used to make was crepes filled with M&S tinned chicken and mushroom with peas and sweetcorn on the side, random AF but so nice!

Sunvalley chicken things my favourite was a chicken breast with cheese and tomato salsa on top coated in crushed nachos - that was yummy

Spaghetti bol flavoured Monster Munch

Herta microwave hot dogs

WalkinginMemphis2 · 26/03/2021 13:55

Oh my mum used to make a desert at Christmas which was Maryland cookies soaked in rum topped with whipped cream and decorated with tinned mandarins. It was so insanely alcoholic and me and DBs used to trough loads of it!

traffolls · 26/03/2021 14:00

Fiendish Feet I don't remember but reminded me of those foot shaped pink ice creams, what were they called and do they still exist?

Quarterback crisps, 10p a packet in the 80s/90s loved them
Push pops and the safety scare with them!

gabsdot45 · 26/03/2021 14:03

I used to get school dinner's in the 1970s and they did a sponge dessert with either lemon or orange sauce over it.
It was so good. It must have been pretty cheap and easy to make so school dinner's but I've never seen anything like it since

Beamur · 26/03/2021 14:05

Oh god. I remember those meat slices. Weren't they called something like Minute steaks because they cooked in literally one minute.

BedisBliss · 26/03/2021 14:05

Agree with posters who commented on the obsession with tins - we used to have Golden Syrup tinned puddings on a Sunday as a special treat. I think you boiled it in a pan, opened it without hot syrup exploding at you and had it with tinned custard. Tiny tin and mum split it four ways thought dad got half as 'breadwinner'. On reflection I can see why obesity never used to be an issue! And luncheon meat, butter and white bread sandwiches...and panda pop ice lollies...but they were a rare treat.

GameSetMatch · 26/03/2021 14:06

Spag Bol monster munch

Beef burger monster munch

Tidgy puds ( nobody ever remembers these I loved them so much) the6 were mini Yorkshire puddings that you had instead of chips!

Cheesy feet

Jelly welly sweets!!! I'd forgotten all about them. They were covered in the powder (icing sugar?) and I loved them. I also remember the jelly worms, wrigglers I think they were called? The jelly sweets these days are nothing like them.
