Mine are :-

Kellogg’s Rise and Shine, a very strange powdered juice drink that we had on special occasions’ instead of actual juice.

Vesta ready meals, particularly the Chow Mein which had crispy noodles on top.

Toast Toppers - weird sludge resembling baby food.

marmite mini chedders. I live in hope that one day they'll return

FoxyTheFox · 26/03/2021 10:55

Also, does anyone remember Looney Toons crisps?

I remember them! The 'ink' used for the little transfer was oddly sweet and we loved looking to see who we had.

Jelly and ice cream flavour Panda Pop that had little slivers of strawberry jelly in it.

TheOldRazzleDazzle · 26/03/2021 10:56

Iceland knickerbocker glories. Seem to remember you had to fit the base onto the plastic ‘glass’ which made them feel special. The strawberry stuff at the bottom was heavenly.

Bags of individually foil-wrapped cakes. Two varieties - chocolate and the superior Victoria sponge. No idea what they were called, but very nice indeed.

A fudge-flavoured lolly that was multicoloured.

Went through a phase of eating several Sainsbury’s chicken tikka masala ready meals a week as a teenager. Even went to the Sainsbury’s cafe with my boyfriend to eat them at source! I’m vegetarian now and snobby about ready meals - how times have changed. Or perhaps none will ever again match the perfection achieved by Sainsbury’s in the late 90s.

Caramel barrels from Roses. Gorgeous runny caramel back in the 80s. Went from lovely to mediocre to revolting.

We lived in the us for a while and I got into the weird TV dinners you can get there - frozen meals in a moulded container with portions of every course. Horrible, but fascinating.

Wecouldbesohappybaby · 26/03/2021 10:59

80s child here. I adored the bright green Quosh drink (tag line 'don't just quench a thirst,Quosh it',possibly had aliens in the TV advert) and bacon and bean Piglets, delectable little piggy puffy crisps mmm.
The not so good included Goblin hamburgers in a tin. Absolute vom. My mum also made a 'soup' which was just over-salted, boiled vegetables stirred into super-strength stock. No thanks,I'm full Sad
I would LOVE some Toast Toppers right now (drool)

PissTestRightNowDaniella · 26/03/2021 11:02

Coffee angel delight.
Dream topping
Bacon smax
Space raiders
Frozen supermousse
Ice magic

Fairystory · 26/03/2021 11:02

Findus frozen pancakes and arctic roll - I think you can still buy them in Iceland.
Frozen concentrated orange juice and tinned fruit juice.

TheOldRazzleDazzle · 26/03/2021 11:03

@FoxyTheFox - the first pizza I ever ate was a turtles one. No weird shape or flavour, but they came with stickers so I pestered my mum to buy them despite the pizza itself being cardboardy.

I loved sky bars too.

On the subject of kid’s entertainment-themed food, Woolworths used to sell ghostbusters sweets. There was a chocolate slimer with fondant slime filling that was especially good!

notmethenwho · 26/03/2021 11:03

I think it was called super whip? Like an alternative to ice cream. I LOVED it.

Iamnotminterested · 26/03/2021 11:04

Dream Topping.

Mandarin flan with Quik-gel at grandma's - it was always my job to arrange the mandarin pieces as I 'was the neatest' Halo

I remember the DIY cheesecake kits, though we always had the black cherry topping.

tobee · 26/03/2021 11:05

@MrsBungle

I still have gammon with pineapple on top! Gin I loved fiendish feet.

Cremola Foam! Remember that? It reminded me of the horrible thread worms medicine Grin

Gin fiendish feet? Now you're talking! Grin

Iamnotminterested · 26/03/2021 11:06

And Vesta Beef Risotto; I used to nick the beef out of the pan whilst it was cooking.

tobee · 26/03/2021 11:08

Usually on these threads you get people longing for Ice Magic. And then posters saying "you can still get it!"

Just thought I'd get in early

Norwaydidnthappen · 26/03/2021 11:15

I grew up in the 90s and basically if it didn’t come from a packet or tin, we didn’t eat it Grin. I remember these weird Thomas the tank engine dessert things, I just googled and they were called tank toasters. I first had one at my best friend’s house and thought they were amazing.

Mydogisagentleman · 26/03/2021 11:20

I was looking at Goblin burgers in a tin ast week while my car was being mended

Beamur · 26/03/2021 11:21

My gran used to make the mandarin flan with quick gel too.
I was not a fussy child with food but found this revolting..it was considered to be a most fancy pudding by the grown ups.

mindutopia · 26/03/2021 11:25

I used to go to a fair every year and they had these things that were a lemon with a whole cut in the top and a stick of lemon rock shoved in it. You would suck on the rock and then eventually a whole would form and you could suck the lemon juice up the stick like a straw. I loved them! I would literally eat like 3 a day and we would go several days to this fair.

Now as an adult, I'm horrified because the acid and the sugar must have been awful for my teeth. I also used to drink several large glasses of coke a day from probably 5 or 6. No one thought that was a bad idea. All of this probably explains why I had about 8 fillings by the time I was 10 and have always had issues with my teeth.

OpusAnglicanum · 26/03/2021 11:36

Apricot jam in a gigantic tin. It came from South Africa. Anyone else remember that?

LAgeDeRaisin · 26/03/2021 11:38

Jars of crab paste or salmon paste for sandwiches. I love crab and salmon... but eek.

TroysMammy · 26/03/2021 11:43

Rose hip syrup and horlicks tablets from the Chemist. I make my own rose hip syrup now.

MazDazzle · 26/03/2021 11:50

Cheesecake from a packet. There were two packets: a crumb one you added butter too and a powdered one you added milk too.

Bird’s pudding. Hot banana flavour topped with golden crumbs. Yum!

fashionablydusty · 26/03/2021 11:51

I loved rise and shine! We only ever had it when we were on holiday (self catering).

Also Rosehip syrup. I think it was sold as something to give to babies- I remember mum buying it when my younger brother was small and sometimes being allowed some.

Does anyone else remember orange and cola flavoured squash? I think it was early 80s and several brands did a version.

OhToBeASeahorse · 26/03/2021 11:56

There was a coffee flavoured ice cream that was marbled and multi coloured which I loved

The UFO yoghurts - biggest con ever, I see why my mum objected!

Golden Cup chocolate bars. I loved them.

Spied · 26/03/2021 11:58

Meanies pickled onions crisps. They were so strong.
Chock-lic-o- powdery chocolate leftovers that you could buy by the 1/4 from huge jars.
White 'chocolate' fish and chips.
Sweet findus pancakes. Sweet raspberry jam filling.
The Heinz pizza

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/03/2021 12:06

I loved Cremola Foam and American Creme Soda. We would get bottles of fizzy juice delivered weekly.

I also loved Tudor crisps particularly gammon flavour - they were really strongly flavoured.

Frozen supermousse was another big favourite and a chocolate sauce that froze on ice cream, but I can't remember what it was called.

We also are a lot of Surprise peas which were dried peas, and little boxes of dried soup.that could be made into pints of soup - I remember beef and vegetable flavour.

My mum did cook but definitely thought that frozen and dried food was the way forward for her children.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/03/2021 12:10

Just remembered the name of the chocolate sauce - Ice Magic. Loved it.
