Mine are :-

Kellogg’s Rise and Shine, a very strange powdered juice drink that we had on special occasions’ instead of actual juice.

Vesta ready meals, particularly the Chow Mein which had crispy noodles on top.

Toast Toppers - weird sludge resembling baby food.

Oh and Rainbow Kali (sometimes called sugar crystals) buy it by the quarter pound from the sweet shop in a little paper bag and would sit and eat it with a teaspoon. Can you imagine buying your kid a bag of sugar coated in every E-number in existence and then handing them a spoon and telling them to enjoy 😂

pottydimley · 28/03/2021 00:05

What was the lovely ice cream a bit like a Magnum but heart shaped with a seam of strawberry through the middle? Bliss.

bluechameleon · 28/03/2021 00:40

Those lurid drinks in plastic cups that came with a straw to pierce the lid but all the cool kids turned them upside down and bit a hole in the bottom to drink them. The standard lunch at my secondary school was two of these, two bread rolls and two doughnuts.

This was the bee's knees! I would feel like a queen when I was allowed one, very, very rarely.

Victory V gums, Sardine and tomato paste, Fuse bars. Shame some of these were killed off as very popular back in the day.

DiptyqueandDiamonds · 28/03/2021 04:37

Frozen orange juice concentrate that came in a small tube.

‘Nanny’s cheese’ which was milk soaked bread with cheese melted on top. It looked awful but tasted wonderful and was a treat for when we were poorly. White bread, full fat milk and cheese I should think!

Bacon burgers, as in a burger made out of bacon, not a burger with bacon on top. We used to have them all the time, you don't seem to be able to get them any more. The salt and nitrate content was probably through the roof. Also I am sure beef sausages used to be more of a thing. I can remember it being a discussion whenever we got sausages "Shall we have pork or beef? Gran prefers beef but we like pork.."
I only ever encountered bacon burgers in the school cafeteria, in the late 90s. I think it was due to the whole BSE thing they stopped serving beef and only served bacon burgers. I absolutely loved them! Would never be sold in a school these days Grin Not read the whole thread but incase they weren't mentioned screwball icecream. It was a plastic icecream cone with a ball of chewing gum in the bottom.

Cremola foam. I loved the stuff. My mum told me that's what she craved a lot of when pregnant with me.
Also these funny frozen strawberry mousse pots. No idea where mum used to get them, and she claims she can't remember them, but they were great too.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/03/2021 05:29

On further investigation (at 5.20am) I think it may have been suncream frozen strawberry mousse. The tubs looks very familiar, but I eould have to try it.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/03/2021 05:32

I was a bit of a strange child and 2 ofy favourite dinners were, cream of chicken soup with a chopped up banana mixed in, and beans with chopped up cucumber and either a tin of tuna or corned beef mixed in. Think my m let me make those up myself.

Myshitisreal · 28/03/2021 05:59

So many things listed here we can still buy in Northern Ireland...

Dandelion & burdock, cream soda, meanies, space raiders, cremola foam (recently relaunched) , French bread pizzas (now rotten)

Myshitisreal · 28/03/2021 06:01

And the salted sachet smiths crisps, as well as golden wonder salt and vinegar.

Frazzledd · 28/03/2021 06:20

@notmethenwho

I think it was called super whip? Like an alternative to ice cream. I LOVED it.
Super whip! My nan used to make this pudding, bananas, strawberries mixed with angel delight, layer of tinned custard, layer of super whip, covered in sugar and caramelised, so crunchy top! We'd be bouncing off the walls for hours but yum!
Frazzledd · 28/03/2021 06:26

@marchez

Hot Crunch Puddings

Basically angel delight type stuff you mixed with boiling water, then sprinkled a sachet of crunchy bits over the top

Think they came in lime, banana and chocolate flavour.

And these! Banana hot crunch, staple Sunday lunch dessert...
LifesLittleDeciders · 28/03/2021 06:29

My dad, when my mum wasn’t around - used to make us ‘sugar in toast’ which funnily enough.. was toast.. smothered in butter with about 4 teaspoons of sugar sprinkled on top.

WHY?!

LibertyWX · 28/03/2021 06:35

Panda Pops!! They don't do them anymore. 😔 and space raiders! Yumm

Laaaaa · 28/03/2021 07:59

Does anyone remember that transformers jelly stuff

Frazzledd · 28/03/2021 10:49

@Laaaaa

Does anyone remember that transformers jelly stuff
The ones that came in the small packets shaped like transformers!? Me!
sueelleker · 28/03/2021 10:58

@Myshitisreal

And the salted sachet smiths crisps, as well as golden wonder salt and vinegar.
Is anyone here old enough to remember when the salt came in a little twist of blue paper?
GrandTheftWalrus · 28/03/2021 11:02

HandyHarry · 28/03/2021 11:05
