I'll start....

My DS didn't do the washing up today as there wasn't any room on the draining board for more dishes!!

I love Willow’s ... I have a clock that’s over a wobbly floorboard. The time changes soon enough! 🤣

muckyhoover · 25/03/2021 19:32

@willowmelangell

I didn't change a wall clock time in Autumn. Because the chair was the other side of the room. So in a couple of weeks clock change it will actually be the right timeGrin
When I got my first decent job I bought myself a brand new car. I was summer so the clock was set to British Summer Time. The day the clocks went back I didn't change it because my watch was broken so I was worried that I would mess it up and not be able to check the right time to re-set it. I planned to change it once I got a new watch.

I had the car for almost 20 years, and had numerous new watches, but never did change the clock for the winter.

DarlingBudsofMarch · 25/03/2021 19:37

I once got a letter (in the post) telling me they couldn't pay the child benefit because they didn't know where I lived Grin. I know it's not about being lazy but the logic of that still makes me laugh! I had to go into the office and when they crossly told me they didn't know where I lived I had to point out I lived at the address they sent the letter to Hmm

My dd used to often empty the dishwasher without being asked, but if she was asked to fill it, she always said she couldn’t possibly do that as she didn’t need a shower. Not sure what she thought she had to do with the dirty plates before putting them in the dishwasher. 🤷🏻‍♀️

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/03/2021 19:48

16yo Dd once called me at work to tell me she couldn't go to school because the car had brought a huge dead rat in and dumped it in her room, so she was trapped in there as she couldn't face going past it.

CongealedCrags · 25/03/2021 20:01

I told DS to dust his room.
A few weeks later I told him to do it again. 'But I did it already' he says. Yes, but the dirt comes back!

He also wanted £5 to empty the dishwasher Grin

poppycat10 · 25/03/2021 20:10

@Stellaris22

DH hasn't changed the time on the car clock because 'I'll just have to change it again in six months'.
I have done this too ;)

DS did it for me this time round - male offspring are not always useless.

00100001 · 25/03/2021 20:11

DS when he was 7, job was to sweep the kitchen floor after dinner.

One day he didn't do it and I asked him why. He said because he hadn't had dinner (he'd been to a friend's house that afternoon!)

underneaththeash · 25/03/2021 20:25

My MIL didn't cook lunch for her baby grandson she'd asked to look after as she didn't know how to cook it.
The instructions were on the packet and I'd got a pan out for her.

I had to come back from my friend's babies funeral as DS was crying so much - clearly through hunger as she hadn't thought to cook anything else for him, or even give him a bottle.

We've never let her look after the children alone again.

twoshedsjackson · 25/03/2021 20:25

I was mentoring a student teacher on her final practice- in other words, if she passed, she'd have her own class in a matter of months.
I'd already helped her with planning, as she seemed a bit clueless, trying to explain about having extension work ready for the quick workers, having things "up your sleeve" to fill any gaps, etc.
She'd worked with groups and got to know the class; now it was time for me to tactfully withdraw and leave her in full charge.
The head, knowing I had been released from my class, asked me to help with some admin that needed doing, and I settled into my task.
Then the message came up from my classroom, "Could you come back and take over? I've run out of things to do!"
Did she believe that this would be an option the following September?

joystir59 · 25/03/2021 20:32

Just realised after reading these posts why the time in my car clock is an hour out Grin

:-) :-) L-)

That is a classic. Thanks for making me laugh this evening.

Loopyloututu2 · 25/03/2021 20:37

My cleaner once told me she couldn't come in because her bunions were playing up. What made it even funnier was that she's only about 19!

Mochudubh · 25/03/2021 20:40

I once worked in an office where we had one of those water coolers with the massive (20L?) bottles that had to be lifted on on to the machine and turned upside down to fit onto slot thingy. A slightly built colleague in her 60s asked the well-built young male temp to help her change it. His reply was "Nah, I don't do heavy lifting".

That's madness. Even if she didn't know how to cook whatever it was. Surely she could have given him bread and butter...? Lordy, even dry bread would have been better!

A biscuit, crisps, banana, even serving the meal cold..... Anything!

Leave it. In our old house we inherited a clock that was placed above the hob/ oven. DH changed it, hung it back up again and when I was making tea a few days later it fell off and smashed the induction hob 😭😭😭.
dontsaveusername · 25/03/2021 20:44

Dh can't do the hoovering because there's too much stuff in the understairs cupboard and he can't get it out. I have to get it out for him

dontsaveusername · 25/03/2021 20:46

And then he has a hissy fit because men are portrayed in TV adverts as incompetent idiots

HiyaMeAgain · 25/03/2021 20:47

I've just remembered another.
When I was about 20, a younger work colleague couldn't clean down the sides in the work kitchen as the water he had used to fill the bucket was too hot!

Another ds one...he refuses to open his curtains as he only has to close them again.

some lads men have had mummy running around after them before they released them into the wild for some poor woman to have to train to be half way functioning adults.
PassMeTheWotsits · 25/03/2021 20:56

@UnicornPug

My husband once told me he couldn’t mash potato as he didn’t know the correct technique. I pointed out I hadn’t got a degree in it myself yet had somehow managed to figure it out and sent him back to the kitchen. Hmm
My husband is in charge of mashing potato, apparently I don’t do it right 🤷🏻‍♀️ Crack on then mate
HiyaMeAgain · 25/03/2021 20:56

@warmandtoasty2day that's certainly true for my ex,
My Ds thinks he can act the same way. No chance...after explaining to him through gritted teeth that if he puts the bloody dishes away, there will be room on the drainer for the dishes that he washes up after.
I sat with a cuppa while he did it 😂

OP posts:
nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 25/03/2021 20:58

Sometimes I do that with the dishes. I wait till someone else clears the drainer then wash up. My car clock is also an hour and 40 minutes fast.

Because I thought I cba to change it, I'll do it when the clocks go back then I cba to change it then either so I just calculate the difference.

I was once late for work as my lizard had turned a funny colour (and yes I did tell them this..)
