YANBU - you have been (in ways described below or beyond)
YABU - you have not been (in ways described below or beyond)

It’s just a quick show of hands, really, as I know some people are skeptical of the recent polls.

Obviously it’s entirely up to you to define this but harassment I would consider anything from (but not limited to) catcalling, unwanted comments (in virtue of your looks/body/attractiveness (yes, being told to smile) femininity, negative parenting as a mother and not just as a parent, or in some way negative biology of woman), stalking, persistence when you’ve already said no.

Assault - physic or verbal.

Abuse - emotional, physical, mental or sexual

Rape - including (but I consented to x but he did y)

I have had everything from the above (which is why my list includes it, but I certainly have miss r so things. However I’d be interested in the poll to see the responses).

Ps - before it’s ask, I’m clearly not a journalist or someone being toady (go ahead and advance search). I’m just curious to see how to polls align.

I've experienced CSA, DV, emotional and financial abuse, sexual harrassment and sexual assault.

I hate to say, it doesn't really get any better as you get older. Some bloke grabbed my arse as I was loading the shopping in a supermarket last year.

I'm 65 and they're still at it.

dayswithaY · 25/03/2021 07:31

I'm really uncomfortable with this thread too. Some people may be enjoying the responses here.

MagpieSong · 25/03/2021 07:31

Yes.

LakieLady · 25/03/2021 07:32

Sorry, should have read "supermarket car park". I wasn't actually groped at the checkout!

Although I bet that happens.

ConstanceGracy · 25/03/2021 07:34

Too many time in my teen years.

HeronLanyon · 25/03/2021 07:39

YANBU - typed out longer account of daily crap most women go through just living our lives plus specific incidents but it was too depressing !

Englishgirl9 · 25/03/2021 09:08

Sexually assaulted by a male friend of 4 years. Sexually assaulted on the street by a stranger a handful of times. Sexually harassed countless times.

Norwaydidnthappen · 25/03/2021 09:12

I’ve never met a woman who hasn’t been harassed, assaulted or abused in some way. My abuse started with my step-dad beating and emotionally abusing me from the age of 6, he loved and never hit my brother though...

Had a shit relationship in my early 20s with an abusive, controlling psychopath (not an exaggeration). He stalked me for months after we split and assaulted me in the street.

GrolliffetheDragon · 25/03/2021 09:24

YANBU. I've posted a list elsewhere on Mumsnet so won't do again - though I've remembered more since then. It seems never ending Angry

WeevilStepmother · 25/03/2021 09:30

Groped in clubs, spat at in my face at close range, spat at by teens on bikes, sexual comments made by a stranger on the phone as a child, followed down a dark street at uni. And I feel like I've been fairly lucky in nothing 'serious' happening...

LudoBear · 25/03/2021 09:42

Honestly? No, I haven't. But I'm an ugly fat cow who rarely leaves the house.

QuentinWinters · 25/03/2021 09:45

Yes. Not rape but everything else, lots of times
I think there's a perception that women have to be unlucky to be assaulted but my experience is its to be expected as a woman..I hope I'm not unusual for how many times stuff has happened to me

WithIcePlease · 25/03/2021 09:56

Yes
More incidents than I can recall
Flashed at
Watched on toilet through ventilation grill on train
Followed and subsequently chased from cabs (hid behind bins once)
Grabbed in deserted street at night
Mauled by a patient - got under my clothes when I was a cleaner
Hideously groped in swimming pool by much older man (looked v young from physique at the time)
Men masturbating at me - covered and uncovered - on buses
Obviously groped in clubs so needed to stay by male friends for 'cover' on multiple occasions
Erghh

Cattenberg · 25/03/2021 10:02

Pressured into sex by a boyfriend
Groped by boys at secondary school
Groped on holiday in Italy
Followed as a teenager by a very weird man who kept offering me money to go around a corner with him.

Had random verbal abuse and other comments from men, sometimes, hurled out of car windows.

What infuriates me is that sometimes I’ve just had to put up with verbal abuse and groping, because I couldn’t risk getting into a physical fight I would almost certainly lose. The last man to verbally abuse me in the street, swore at me and mocked me for being short. His three mates laughed. I would have liked to make a retort, but that wouldn’t have been wise.

QuiteContraryMarie · 25/03/2021 10:04

YANBU

TJ17 · 25/03/2021 10:07

Yes

AdaFuckingShelby · 25/03/2021 10:08

Flashed at, hollered at, groped in public by random men, sex when not in the mood because the fallout was dreadful if I didn't. The experience of many sadly.

ancientgran · 25/03/2021 10:11

Got groped by a dirty old man once. Got terrorised by a local thug for years, she was female so not sure how to count that one.

GirlInterruptedAgain · 25/03/2021 10:18

Have a huge long list of things from the not so severe to the severe. I was thinking about this the other day when I was conversing with my dh and the more things that I remembered was starting to get ridiculous. And that wasn’t including the ‘ I’d live for you to sit on my face’ or the ‘your legs should be wrapped around my neck’ which were shouted at me on separate incidents, both by ‘workies’.

ByTheSea · 25/03/2021 10:19

YANBU all

TrialOfStyle · 25/03/2021 10:27

I posted, because I keep seeing comments on here about how the stats are biased to the people asked - so I wanted to ask here where people who say they haven't can include their answer too.

92% have said they have. An overwhelming amount of posters have had similar experiences to me (all of the above). And I'm really fucking angry that it's standard to most women.

OP posts:
TrialOfStyle · 25/03/2021 10:29

*Why are you asking though?

And why the fuck are people posting stories about it for perverts to wank over?*

Honestly, I must be really naive because I hadn't thought that people would do that (which of course is naive considering the levels of abuse women face), but please don't share your stories if you are uncomfortable about doing so. I was going to go into details about mine but now I realise it's probably not a good idea.

Bouledeneige · 25/03/2021 10:37

Flashed at 6 times before I was 18. 3 times when I was alone and very frightened by it.

My sister had an attempted rape on her way home from school. And a voyeur came into our back garden and was masturbating at the window when my sisters and I were alone in the house.

Followed or stalked a couple of times had to either run or get a taxi home.

Being pressed into a corner or touched up 3 times, twice on a crowded tube and once on a tube escalator when heavily pregnant.

mrlevelheaded · 25/03/2021 10:39

its not always men. I was a policeman in a busy English seaside town. Whilst working I had been groped, grabbed, pinched in intimate places on the body and had women grab my hands to put on their chest, crotch etc. All unacceptable behaviours, all done by women. Had I arrested or summonsed them I would likely be a laughing stock.
