How do you clean your bathroom? Help, please

So frustrated. I do have adhd and anxiety so dunno if this is normal or not but feel so thick and stupid.

When cleaning the bathroom, I seem to end up with loads of drips running off the edge of the sink for example, it's clean water but just so sloppy looking. I use kitchen towel to mop it up.

I use a sponge for the sink and shower but for the loo I use kitchen towel or if the sponge is about to be thrown away I'll use it. But what do normal people do?

Do you have a sponge that's just for cleaning the loo separate and how long do you use it before chucking? It fucking grosses me out to think of having a loo sponge even though the loo is actually very clean. I do use a loo brush to give it a scrub it with a toilet cleaning product but that's the inside - when I say I use paper or a sponge for the loo I mean for the seat and around the top part to make sure no dust.

Feeling clueless and frustrated. It's trivial stuff but honestly I just want to be able to efficiently whip round my bathroom and have it clean and sparkling and neat, so can anyone give me sensible foolproof tips?

I hate cleaning, but like us all, want a clean house...

Yuck to all the cloths being used on the loo 🤮 just use toilet roll ?! I wouldn’t want to put a cloth in my washing machine that piss and shit on it. Just spray the shower and sink with a Daily limescale cleaner every day quick scrub with a sponge rinse off and dry with a cloth I can do all this in 5 mins and I’ve been in my new build for a year now an I have no limescale apart from occasional little bit on the end of taps and every few weeks I scrape it off with a knife.

Nearlynotquite · 25/03/2021 14:08

See, this I don't understand user334567
I don't have piss and shit on my toilet. Certainly if you've got kids they sometimes get those things on their clothes. Would you not put those in the washing machine?
I occasionally dry the toilet seat with a bit of toilet paper, but using it for all the cleaning is so wasteful!

So if you have children and they have an accident or vomit on themselves, you'd just chuck everything they're wearing in the bin? Hmm

purplebagladylovesgin · 25/03/2021 14:14

I use an old soft work towel to wipe surfaces with once I've cleaned. I was amazed that one of the stately homes uses old underpants for the same polishing purposes.
It works. Well washed old cotton towelling is very absorbing and polishes beautifully.
If you still have drip marks use it slightly damp in one corner.

GreenSlide · 25/03/2021 14:16

Spray everything with bathroom cleaner. Wipe down sink first then bath/shower then toilet. Cloth goes in with other cloths and towels for hot wash. Bleach down loo. I thought everyone did this Confused

Nearlynotquite · 25/03/2021 14:23

@GreenSlide why would everyone do things the same way? Certainly I was never taught to clean, so I had to figure it out for myself. This is why MN is useful as it gives an insight into other people's lives. Even though some people's ways of doing things seem quite bonkers. Isn't it great that we're all different?

viques · 25/03/2021 14:27

My bathroom and loo are separate. Loo cleaned with disposable cloths from Wilco that are then binned. Bathroom bath , tiles, window sill, mirrors and sink cleaned with bath sponge and spray cleaner and finished with cheap towelling facecloth squares for mirrors, tiles and a final polish. Facecloth squares washed with towel washes and kept rolled in a basket but out of sight so no one uses them as facecloths by mistake!
Sponge reused until I think it is really manky.

Wannabegreenfingers · 25/03/2021 14:35

Gosh I'm a complete slob in comparison.

Spray, bath, sink and toilet in bathroom cleaner, wipe everything down with a microfiber cloth, scrub inside of toilet with a toilet brush. Mop the floor. Cloth is never dripping wet so no water marks/streaks.

Cloth gets washed after every use. I clean my bathroom, ensuite and downstairs toilet once a week. The loo bowl gets a scrub and bleach after every poo.

NotATomato · 25/03/2021 14:49

Similar really to others.

Remove stuff from the bathroom, spray everything with Method and put toilet cleaner down the loo. I clean with microfibre cloths which are washable. I rinse off the bath using the shower after I’ve cleaned it all. Clean toilet with cloth and use loo brush in bowl, wipe floor with wipes and hoover it when I’m hoovering.

ComtesseDeSpair · 25/03/2021 14:51

The loo bowl gets a scrub and bleach after every poo.

This seems like such an odd juxtaposition in a post which starts off with you claiming to be a complete slob!

Megan2018 · 25/03/2021 14:57

@User334567 I was cloth nappies every other day in the washing machine. A cloth used for cleaning the loo is hardly an issue.
Washing machines are for cleaning dirty things. Disposable items are the reason the planet is fucked.

I think this thread has put me off hotels for life

thelegohooverer · 25/03/2021 15:29

And just like that I don’t miss hotels anymore.

Anoisagusaris · 25/03/2021 15:38

I worked in a fancy hotel in England as a student and was taught (rather than just being manky bitch myself 😆) to use the towels to polish the bathroom. Glasses and cupswere cleaned using the same cloth as the bathroom 🤮

Fnib · 25/03/2021 15:56

I can live with used towels cleaning round the bathroom in a hotel, but if it's true about cleaning glasses and mugs with them that's truly disgusting.

Fnib · 25/03/2021 15:57

Also cloths, sorry, speed reading/posting @Anoisagusaris

NotATomato · 25/03/2021 15:59

I always clean the cups in a hotel room and rinse out the kettle before I use it.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/03/2021 16:09

I use a Flash spray on all the surfaces. Use a microfibre cloth on the sink, windowsill, and bath, loo roll to wipe down the actual toilet. Bleach under the toilet rim and left to stand (although DP seems to immediately want to use the toilet as soon as it's been cleaned). Floor is mopped weekly, the glass shower door is not done nearly often enough if I'm honest, and the tiles by the bath/shower get a going over with Cillit Bang when the grout starts to look a bit manky. The other stuff gets done two or three times a week.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 25/03/2021 16:34

cif for the bath and basin

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 25/03/2021 16:37

cleaner on the top of the loo and around the loo, wipe over, starting at the top, working down, cloth goes into wash

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 25/03/2021 16:39

sponge with ciff over the bath and basin and rinse with shower head.

method or other brand on the shower after/before every shower

Ohnomoreno · 25/03/2021 16:40

I think about it frequently. Unfortunately, the force of my mind seems to have no effect. Grin

Bagelsandbrie · 25/03/2021 16:43

I spray and scrub everything and then wipe it all down with the dirty hand towel and then replace that with a clean one. Wash all towels at 60 degrees and no one has died yet.

I think mumsnet is so funny about this stuff. As someone else said if your child or elderly relative had an accident would you seriously bin all their clothes!? I don’t even wipe inside the toilet with the towel in comparison. Washing machines errrrm wash!

I’ve worked in hotels most of my life and almost every single one does it that way re the towels. That’s how they get the super shiny very clean finish. Kitchen towels and disposable cloths just don’t work the same.

ChiaraRimini · 25/03/2021 16:51

We are in a hard water area so I use a lot of limescale removing spray, on tiles over bath and shower screens as well as bath and basins every week. Flush toilet and scrub with brush, use Antibacterial wipes on toilet lid and surfaces, then toilet cleaner under rim.
As well as everything others have mentioned I use vinegar on cotton wool pads on stubborn limescale around taps. Bleach on cotton wool pads on any spots of mould. Bleach on a toothbrush to clean grout.

Clean, old towels ripped into squares are best to polish cleaned taps and glass surfaces . Then damp towels used to clean the floor on hands and knees, quicker then mopping The hygienic version of the hotel method!

CovidHalloween · 25/03/2021 17:04

Right- I’m taking my dettol spray next time I go to a hotel.
How disgusting. So you’ve done the hard of cleaning the hotel room then you dirty it again with a used towel. Genius!
